Did you/are you changing into an evening dress?

aimzxx, 4 December, 2012 at 15:19 Posted on Planning 0 32

Hi Ladies...

I''m off work ill and wondering whether I should get a second dress. to change into when all the evening guests have arrived so not will about 9:30....

Reasons for not changing:

Only get to wear my dress once

Cost a lot of pennies

its my wedding dress!

Reasons for a second option:

Something might get spilit?!

Its easier to dance in a T-length dress

A nice evening refresh!

What do you all think?

Im 99% sure about getting a second dress but only if i find one i love.

The train on my dress is huggeeeee and we are having my favourite band so i want to be able to dance with all my guests etc with out getting in everyones way and getting stood on.

I got my dress for a bargain price so i do have room in my budget for a second dress, i just need to find one i love!

Can't you get the train bustled? I didn't change but I was in a tea length all day anyway.

Unlikely but insurance (and something might get spilt on your second one?), my dress was really light so that didn't bother me (not even the length), I didn't want to leave that party for even ten minutes.

I'm changing but not until about 10pm so my wedding dress would have had a good 8 hours of wear. Plus I am also incredibly paranoid about falling over. I'm getting changed into a tea length ivory dress of Vivien of Holloway fame so I'm not busting my wallet. I'm also going to keep the shoes I'm wearing on until I get too tired - then I'm getting changed into a pair of patent red flats which I have already.

    Thanks ladies...

Hmmm well i'm trying it on a week on saturday, I might have a "pretend" boogie to see how easy it is to dance in.....It was light I think???

That's beautiful Aimz - I'm sure that if you asked the dress shop to bustle it up, they would?? Even if, as standard, it comes with a wrist loop?

My dress has cost me more than my current car is worth, so I shall definitely not be changing it ?

Although I will remove my lace bolero and put on a sparkly belt.

I'm keeping mine on all day and night. I may even sleep in it, I want to wear it as long as possible.

Can the shop not bustle it for you? Mine did, it was just a button and a loop.

    Haha! Mine was the same!

I can vouch for how easy it is to dance in a tea length, I was in one all day. If you have room in your budget then do it but personally I would have hated to have taken my dress off even for a second on my w day, let alone get changed all together.

I wont be changing* but I am not big on dancing anyway and will spend most of the evening moving around chatting. I would also like the evening guests to see me in my dress.

I didn't change, for several reasons:

evening guests would want to see my wedding dress

I loved my dress and didn't like the thought of only wearing it for half a day

    I couldn't afford two dresses.

But everyone is different, if there are 2 dresses you love, then there is no reason why you couldn't have both as long as budget allows, my reasons suited me but we are all different and have to do what makes us happy. Good luck in your hunting if you do opt for a second dress

Keep that dress on! It's beautiful. Also, the evening guests like to see the bride in her dress. I'm planning to keep mine on as long as possible.......

Ah yes, good points about the evening guests - we haven't got a separate group of evening guests so that's something I didn't have to think about but maybe would be worth mulling over for you?

    I'm about 90% sure I won't change my dress.

However, my dress is a two piece (not that you'd ever know) and part of me is tempted to buy a shorter skirt to change in to.

I'm also buying some accessories (bolero & headpiece) which I currently intend to change to in the evening, but there is the possibility that I could end up wearing them all day!

To the OP, your dress is gorgeous so I would say in your situation, buy a cheapy dress just in case you feel the need to change and/or something spills on it but I doubt you'd change on the night!

No don't do it!!!! You only get to wear that dress once!

Mine was a big princess dress and I danced loads. My back button for the bustle thing busted and then safety pinned it on for my first dance. Of course it popped almost straight away but it was still fine. You won't care by that point. Loads of people stepped on mine etc but didn't damage it.

I could not have beared to take my dress off (of course until the hotel room, and even that itself I found quite sad.) If I could have banged away in my dress that night I probably would have, but (the dress) was far too big)

No other dress would have compared. Plus it is the least value for money you will ever spend on a dress so make the most of it.

Once I'm in my dress my mum says I'm staying in it, mainly cause it as about five million tiny buttons on the back! May actually have to sleep in it if OH can't undo them all! I was going to have two dresses till I found mine. What I'm going to do tho is take a white/cream summery evening dress that can be worn on honeymoon to venue just incase as mid August could be hot ( you never know) and my dress weighs a ton so if it gets unbearable I will change about 10.30 just for the last few hours, but hopefully I can stay in my dress.

    Thanks guys..

Ok...So.....I think I will buy a evening dress closer to the time as a second just in case anything happens to my actual dress but make sure I can return it within the 28 days if I don't wear it..

I'll just get a nice monsoon/coast kind of dress :-)

    Oooo the decisions haha!

No I didn't change. By the evening I was too involved with my guests and having fun and really wouldn't have been bothered at all. I changed my shoes and even that was enough hassle!

The dress is so gorgeous, I'd wear it for as long as you can. I'm sure you evening guests would be gutted if they didn't get a chance to see you in it. You'll only wear it once!

My thoughts exactly! We're having breakfast, city sightseeing and a pub crawl the next day in Liverpool and I may well put it back on for that! ?

(It might not look too out of place in Liverpool if I'm honest... )

Hahah yea not in Liverpool definately not...

So my plan is to change into the T-Length one at about 10pm so I'd imagine all the evening guests will be there by then so will see me in both of them :-)

I've got a really cool band so I wanna be able to dance the night away an not worry about my train getting trampled on!

I bought a pretty red dress a few months ago, for the purpose of changing. However, then I realised that I wanted to wear my wedding dress, since I can wear the evening one anytime I go to an event in future if I wanted to.
