Do you have any strange phobias?

Knees, 14 July, 2011 at 14:51 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 58

Mine are shower curtains and hot towels, like those ones they hand out on the plane.

I hate the way shower curtains cling to you, especially if there's a draft. I can't stand the feeling of something hot on my face.

Anyone got anything good?

I freak out if Mr C brings chewed up chewing gum anywhere near me ?

He is mean and will put it on the end of his tongue and poke it out when I go to kiss him... cue me running scream going euww euww euww!

My sister thinks it stems from having gum in my hair as a child.

My most severe phobia is Peanut Butter-no joke!!

When i was at uni and my flatmates found out about this they didnt believe it so covered all my drawer and door handles in my room in peanut butter...i was terrified! i sat in the shared kitchen for 3 hours until they cleared it and even then ocne it was gone i had to scrub everything!!! makes me feel funny thinking about it!!

Also popcorn, this developed after choking on it in the cinema when i was younger..i can deal with it better now, i used to gety so frightened of it and would have to move seats in the cinema if i could smell or hear it near me!!

Tomatoes. I can't even bare to touch them because the feel of them makes my skin crawl and I can't have a chopped up one in the same room as me. I am trying to get over it - can now eat tinned chopped tomatoes and tomato puree because there's not the same texture.

None that I can think of.

Our best man has a phobia of custard, nuns and of women wearing a cardigan with just the top button done up!

My phobia isn't that strange - clowns.

I'm OK with clowns like the one from "IT", you know he wants to kill you. It's the chirpy, smiley ones I hate! I don't trust them.

I think it comes from when I was about 5, a clown (accidently) poked me in the eye with a feather duster.

Really haven't the foggiest! Nobody in my family can remember how it started, just that I always refused to use them. My Gran used to buy the huge multipacks and would have to bin them when all the other colours ran out ?

My biggest phobia is of falling/being sucked down the plug hole in the bath, i can't have a shower unless the plug is in, and can't "pull the plug" after a bath.

I also have a fear of having the curtains open at night, I scream and run if they are open with a fear of being shot at by a sniper.

then the normal spiders and needles

I have the normal phobias- Flying is the biggest one, followed by wasps.

But my odd one is off black toilet seats...and old fashioned toilets with the cistern up the top- I once held on for a wee for 17 hours as I was staying at someones houe and this was the only loo they had.

    Below is my idea of hell;

Buttons for me- Especially the kind on mens shirts, which are sort of rounded around the outside. *shudder*. I can't stand touching them, and they fill me with a sort of disgust (only word I can think of that describes it) when I see them. Its not like a fear though, I know they won't do anything, but its just like a really intense hatred of them.

Apparently mum taught me to count with buttons when I was a tot, so I put it down to that!

I don't like paper that has been cut!!! Using a paper cutter goes through me. Also I dont like usual stuff like wasps, mice and spiders and so on oh and I have a huge fear of water that I can't see the bottom of.

For all wasp haters... I have had hypnotherapy and NLP and both were shite.

Last year i bought a waspinator from Amazon, its a canvas bag that looks like a wasps nest and you fill it with plaggy bags and hang it outside. It was the first time I ate outdoors, it really works. Turns out wasps are territorial and won't go anywhere near it (who knew!) Think it was 2 for a tenner..bargain!

Stickers and rather unhealthy but I can't drink out of used glasses. This has got massively worse in the last year or so and now spend my life drinking out of bottles, plastic cups or cheap glasses that I get rid of. What a weirdo!!

I too don't like the curtains open at night - but because I'm scared I'll see someone outside looking in at me. I live in a first floor flat so this is highly unlikely... I just really hate the dark.

My phobia is of Wind Turbines. I am so frightened of them I get physically sick if I see them and have been close to crashing my car once when I saw a load of them in Hartlepool (I shut my eyes whilst driving).

It's the most ridiculous irrational phobia and I know but I can't look at pictures of them even. I have to look away when they show them on TV. They freak me out beyond belief. Luckily there are none near where I live or work so I don't have to see them that often. When we went to Cornwall, my brother told me when they were coming up along the journey so that I could shut my eyes until it was 'safe'. I have actually been on the radio and chatted to Scott Mills about this phobia.

Can't think of any of my own but H is freaked out by the skin on peaches and kiwis and refuses to eat any beans other than baked beans because the texture freaks him out. Other than that he'll eat absolutely anything - human garbage disposal that he is, bless ?

Earwigs and centipedes. Not that strange really. It comes from my pet bunny who died when I was little, we were away overnight and the next morning when we came home we found it dead it was covered in earwigs and centipedes. UGH!

And clowns - any kind but especially Pierrot types. Don't know where that one came from.

I hate milk that has been spilled, if it is on a table or something I can't go near it. I also freak out if it touches me. I wouldn't say I'm terrified by it though. One of my friends has a severe phobia of ketchup, that's the weirdest one I've come across

I have a couple of weird ones and a couple of normal ones.

Spiders - cant go near them they scare the hell outta me, my mums fault cos shes the same.

The Dark - not all the time but if, for instance, I am in the hallway at home and its dark, i HAVE to get into my bedroom where the light is on, or turn on a light or i freak.

I'm a terrified of seeing a ghost. I dont necessarily beleive or not beleive, I just dont want to see one...I really dont!

I hate feet. I HATE it if someone puts their foot on me its making me shudder just writing it.

the weirdest one - when people do that 'got your nose' thing, where they grab your nose with 2 fingers and push their thumb through them (does that make sense?) its FREAKS me out and i scream at them to put it back. they have to put it back on my face before im ok again.

    Weird. Yes I know.
