does the designer label matter!?

abbietopping, 17 September, 2010 at 11:35 Posted on Planning 0 21

Hey girlies!

I'm having a debate with the girls in my office (2 of us are brides to be and the rest are married) about whether or not it matters who the designer of your wedding dress is!!! we have mixed opinions right now!

Personally I had no clue who the designers were when I looked online, or when I went into the shops - yet, my friend and collegue went on the hunt specifically for an ian stuart dress...

Am I being really 'un-trendy' by not caring - and is there a stigma attached to certain labels that i'm not aware of!!! I'd hate people to think I was wearing the 'primark' of the wedding dress world!

It certainly wouldnt bother me! Will your guests see the tag anyway?

As long as you love the dress does it really matter? Why buy something that your not 100% with just for the label? Doesn't make sense to me! Who cares who made the dress. As long as you look gorgeous on the day and you are happy, thats all that matters.

I honestly dont think it matters what the make is! As long as you are happy with the dress, it suits you and its in your price range!! Smiley smile

Unless you are working in a bridal design company I wouldn't sweat it. Nobody knows which designer did which dress unless they work in a bridal shop anyway.

The designer name just adds £££s. People will probably be more interested in which shop you got it from!

    My favourite question ha ha!

To me the designer did matter - ALOT. I was adminant that i didnt want a certain designer (who will remain unnamed haha) however i had a massive dress dilema and couldnt find ANYTHING i liked.

the dress that i ended up with was by the designer i really didnt want however i am now sure i have made the right choice.

Before i got engaged i didnt have a clue who good/bad/desirable/undesirable designers were.

Now of corse i know them all.

For some people it matters, others it dosnt.

Of corse i would be alot happier if my dress had a Vera Wang label it but it hasnt and who will know if i cut out the label ?

Not at all, I think people look specifically for a certain designer if they like their gown styles or a certain gown within their range.

I don't think the designer of the dress matters at all but that's just my opinion. I don't buy designer clothes for everyday wear so I wasn't going to buy a designer dress for my wedding. To me designer items just cost more and aren't always better.

I dont think it matters as long as your dress is 'the one' who does it matter who its by?

Mind you, I dont care if my clothes are from Primark or Prada in real life so I'm that kind of person that material things dont matter at all - if it looks good, who cares?

I guess it depends on who you are and who's attending your wedding and if they'd care.

I always thought I'd pick a dress by the designer Shoey doesnt like, as every dress I seemed to like in mags were by her, but in the end my dress is by someone else.

Choosing a dress is hard enough without restricting yourself to only certain designers. But I guess everyone is different and has different values.

When I started looking I knew there were certain designers or brands I preferred the look of over others.

I do like the fact that I've not seen anyone else with my dress but that's more by luck than judgement! I certainly didn't set out for that to be the case.

As with claire, I'm pleased that mine is UK made but then I'm on a real 'support your local economy' drive at the moment!

I couldn't have cared less what label my dress was. I know labels are really important for some brides, and I can see why they may dream about having a Tiffany ring and a Wang dress. But for me, labels have never really mattered x

I went to 2 shops yesterday afternoon after work, was in the first one for over an hour, and felt quite overwhelmed by the whole process to be honest! not sure if I even really enjoyed it! Then the second shop was HORRID!!! it was a cheapo store with really tacky atmosphere and these frumpy old women behind the desk!!! we lasted 15 mins! There were also 4 brides all trying on dresses at the same time - now what is that all about!!!! I was so upset that I just didn't know what to do. Then my mum called me this morning and said she'd booked me in at one near her that her friend had recommend - and it was sooo lush! I was the only bride in the store (now thats more like it!) and i found a stunner of a dress - I just had to have it - and I tell you what, after worrying and stressing about what styles I would like, and where to go, I actually feel quite happy that I don't have to think about it any more!!!!

I don't think it really matters tbh. I've been looking at lots of dress collections online, and already have an idea about which designers I like. But not because of 'who they are' but the style of wedding dresses that they produce. As someone else pointed out, unless people are in the wedding business, they are not going to know just by looking at your dress who it is designed by.

I would say that it dosen't matter - what does matter is that you have found a dress that you love and want to wear on your special day. Enjoy every minute you get with it, you have chosen it because you love it - I wouldn't listen to the girls in your work Smiley smile
