Dress Budget

Rizzo, 30 June, 2010 at 13:11 Posted on Planning 0 11

I'm going to bite the bullet soon and start dress shopping.

I have a budget of around £500. Do you think I'll need to up it a bit?

It really depends on what you want, but from all the dresses I saw and tried on I didnt see many that were under £700, a few were around £600, but not many.

Also bare in mind costs for alterations.

I had a budget of £600, the dress I am ordering is £1200, lol - I dont know if a budget is possible when it comes to finding that "dream dress"

Ooh, enjoy! As for budget I'm afraid I think it's a bit of a "piece of string" question - you can get a wedding dress on a far more limited budget than you have set and equally you can spend thousands, it depends on what you really want. If you have a limit that there is absolutely no way you'll go over I personally wouldn't even look at dresses over that for fear of falling for one and then finding it was out of reach. I didn't have a wedding dress as such (I had a corset and skirt) and never looked at any wedding dresses but from reading threads on here I'd say your budget is maybe on the lower end of average IYSWIM so not unrealistic. I stand to be corrected though!

I had a budget of 1k but when I went dress shopping I was quite suprised as I did see quite a few dresses around the £500 mark. I have just ordered my dress and it costs £700 however make sure when you have found your dress that you phone around some local shops to make sure that you are getting a good price. I ended up knocking some money off mine as I went back to the original shop and said that I had found it cheaper, so they price matched it.

My dress is costing £599, i did try on another dress that cost £545 but again it all depends on the style you want and shop around don't just go into 1 shop has some shops can charge way over the price, HTH.

I think depending what you are after you should be ok. BHS and Monsoon offer lovely dresses under £500.00.

I also know you can find ex sample's for sale in bridal shops and they are still very nice, might just need a wash.

There is also dedicated web sites to brides selling there dresses you could pick up a bargin on the web too.

    Good Luck! ?

I had a budget of £1300 and the dress I brought was £749. As I got it when the shop had a promotion on at the time Smiley smile I actuallyu seen a really nice dress for £600 in one shop so it just goes to show it's not all about the ££ you will find one that you love and that will be that! That, however doesn't mean you will find on in your budget but I am sure you will work through that when you find the one you love.x

What the others said - if you want to stick to £500 you'll need to shop around, think about high street places like Monsoon and make sure you attend some sample sales. You ought to be able to get yourself a bargain!

Don't forget the potential cost of your alterations either - depending on what you get done, I'd suggest a budget of £50-£250 depending on what needs doing and where in the country you are.

How long is that piece of string....................?

My sister got a beautiful dress for £250. I thought I could do the same as I wanted simple. So set a £400 budget. After several shops I upped it to £600, still the dress ladies thought I was crazy so declared no budget.

Ironically 'the one' dress for me I had no idea how much it was. The lady was fab and refused to tell me the prices before I put them on and as soon as I knew it was right I then asked for the price (£700, but will ALL the accessories)

...DOn't call it a budget, call it a GUIDELINE.

I had an original budget of £200 and thought I'd get it on Ebay, I was unexpectedly given some money towards my dress so my budget became £600. I didn't find any dress under £700 until after I had found "the one", so unfortunately too late for me to fall in love with another dress, regardless of the price. My dress costs just over £1000, oops!!! I've been eating dry bread ever since ?

I got an email today about a designed wedding dress sample shop opening up on Chiltern Street. That might be worth a look
