Dress prices

JennyH10, 25 May, 2011 at 17:48 Posted on Planning 0 18

They vary so dramatically and yet they never ever mention the price on websites. It drives me absolutely crazy! Who wants to find a shortlist of beautiful dresses on-line then go into a load of bridal shops to find they're all way over budget? I would at least like to know what to expect before I go.

When I was at the early stages of my planning, I realised it was relatively straightforward to spot what would be a 'cheaper' dress compared to an 'expensive' dress. Look at what it's made from, the level of detail etc. I think you can also get quite a good feel based on the sort of adverts they are using in the bridal mags. Quite a few people on here can give you some idea as to the starting price of each range, too.

If you are on a budget for your dress, make sure you make the shop aware of it and ask them not to show you anything outside of your budget.

That's true, I'm looking at some beautiful intricate, beaded, corded lace dresses and I know I'm going to get a massive shock when I see the prices ?

That does bulk the cost up. I almost cried when I saw the cost of the corded lace on my dress!

Which dresses/designers have you seen? I'm sure someone on here can give you a starting price.

Lots of American designers unfortunately. TBH I'm thinking I'll be better off getting one made for me anyway as I'm just under 5'.

    Liancarlo

    Alice Padrul

    Maggie Sottero

    Pattis

Casablanca Bridal (my fave is on here)

Mine's a Maggie and cost £922 if that helps?

I think my dress was middle of the range in regards to price, it's beaded lace (Karena Royale)

Gorgeous dress but very elusive! I tried to track one down ages ago without much success. I'd give preloved and ebay a go as I think it was in last year's collection.

Im just over 5" and im having trouble finding a dress that suits me as iv got a petite frame too. Im trying on some dresses again this weekend (even though my wedding is ages away) and im hoping one of the maggie sottero ones will suit me as i love them. Have you looked at romantica of devon dresses, there nice and prices seem reasonable to my budget which is up to £1000.

That's about my budget too (fiance looked at me like this ? when I said how much but I made him believe that that figure would included shoes and underwear and accessories etc, no chance LOL ?) and I know the ones I'm looking at are way over anyway! I'm short but my frame is very curvy/top heavy so I'm concerned that I need a dress that is not going to swamp me and make me look dumpy. The Maggie ones are beautiful.

I put my prices online and what size dress i have in store, nothing more depressing than falling in love with a dress, getting there and discovering its an 8 and your a 16, so that might help you a little, not with the brands you mentioned but giving you a price starting point for some brands.

And most designers do dresses in shorter lengths and longer lengths , so dont be put off all the time.

    Hope that helps.

I had a top budget of £1000 too and told each shop i went into what it was and they were very good at only showing me dresses in my price range. However, after 50 dresses i fell in love with one more than double my budget. My OH will never know though ? lol

I got mine at The Wedding Wardrobe in Chester le St, Cunty Durham. I actually tried it on in Newcastle where they could do it for £885 but then wanted to charge me £30 for a box. I paid the little bit extra cos the woman at Wedding Wardrobe was lovely Smiley smile

I actually got the call on Tuesday that it's here so I'm off to try it on in my size on Saturday morning! Cue mega excitement!! Smiley smile
