Dress Shopping.... SO frustrating!

MrsMac2be, 11 August, 2011 at 20:49 Posted on Planning 0 12

I think, in the past week and a half I have tried on 20 something dresses and NOT one of them is the The One... what is WRONG with me? Am I being too picky?

There is a certain style/fabric that I love and the dresses "seem" to suit me but none have wowed me yet..

I know I have ages to go to the wedding but surely I would have found SOMETHING ...?

Getting frustrated.. will end up walking down the aisle in jeans at this rate!

Im exactly the same hun, i have tried on about 11 dresses so far and there are 2 that ive really like but they havent give me that specil feeling. People keep talling me, you will know 'the one' as soon as you put it on and look in the mirro,r i know its early days im starting to think thats doesnt exist, the people in the stores keep telling me that the dresses take 4-6 months to arrive and you need to leave time for fittings and seamstresses so that doesnt really leave me alot of time to find one.

Good luck with your search, sorry i havent been much help.

Are you only trying on the style/fabric that you love? If so, that may have sthg to do with it. I had a very fixed idea of what I wanted: something single-layer chiffon, very light, floaty, no train / puddle train, perfect beach style. I tried on a couple and wasn't wowed. I tried on other random dresses and again, they looked fine on me (I am very lucky to have a decent figure) but not "Wow!" Either too plain, too "Oscar night" or too "ivory nightdress in a 40s movie" style.,

Went into a dress shop after having tried on 20-30 dresses and described what I wanted. They pulled out this huge dress, chiffon yes, but with underskirts and crystal beading. I took one look and said "errr no, not what I imagine". Tried it on to be polite, and OMG the lady in the shop was right, it looked amazing. Much more bridal than the others I'd tried, didn't feel a compromise (all others had been "well I'm marrying on the beach and having a ceilidsh so I can't have XYZ") and was just lovely. Needless to say I just knew it was the one.

If I were you I'd be imaginative. Book appointments so you're not rushed, and try on dresses that the assistants suggest not just what you think/thought you wanted. At worst, you have an afternoon of girly dress-up. At best, you find The Dress Smiley smile

    Hey kbs,

It took me about 3 months to decide on my dress, and i ended up with 2 favourites! I travelled all over and must have tried about 30 dresses of all different styles and fabrics just to make sure i had covered everything before i finally decided, i took my mum with me to help me choose the one and she said straight away which one she preferred....i think it just takes time but you WILL find the right one for you Smiley smile like mrsh to be has said try the ones suggested for u even if you think u don't like them, it's amazing how different they look on!

keep us updated & good luck Smiley smile

I agree with Mrs H to be, I would try on dresses that you might not have originally considered. My dress was originally picked out by the lady at the shop and was nothing like what I thought I wanted but when I tried it on I loved it. So maybe be a bit more open minded?

    You will find it eventually!

KBS has been trying on different styles and has been keeping a (kinda) open mind... Haven't you luvvie? ?

I'll say this again for you... I have tried on about 30 dresses in 5 different shops before I found mine

You have plenty of time, so stop worrying! Anyway, I thought you liked two? ?

I also had a very definite idea of what I wanted structured/tight fitting fishtail gown with no beading. when I went shopping with my mum I decided to have fun as that would be the only trip my mum could be there for as they were going on an extended holiday and knew that i would go with my bridesmaid shortly too. However whilst having fun and trying loads of gowns on I fell for a dress I didnt think I would, it was an a-line creamy ivory with lots of crystals and beading and a long train too but I loved it and still do. So I would also say have fun and try loads of different styles on even if you arent sure about them.

You are not alone. I also have this problem and am starting to panic. I have visited 14 dress shops and lost count of the number of dresses I have tried. I did start by trying on everything but I now have a rough idea of what I want....it just doesn't exist. Everything I try on has been 'nice' but not amazing. I might be too fussy.

I've been advised to wait until September, when the 2012 collections start arriving in the shops.

Good luck with your quest. I am sure we will all find something.

I have tried everything from fishtail to A Line - from straight skirts to HUGE princessy type... when I try them on I feel like an imposter lol.. that I'm not supposed to be wearing it.

I did howver try one on yesterday that took my breath away a tad, but the quality of the finish just wasn't up to scratch, if it had been then it would have been The One as I felt "right" in it. There is no way on this earth that I would pay £800 + for a dress that isnt finished to an acceptable standard though.

I went to 7 dress shops and must have tried on 60+ dresses in total! I've ended up with something totally different to what I imagined but I love it... not quite a lightning bolt like some people describe but I really didn't want to take it off!

I insisted before going that I wanted something plain as I hate being the centre of attention and I've ended up with a lace, fully beaded, 'soft' fishtail 'wow' dress that will def. make me the centre of attention but when I had it on I felt the most confident I'd ever felt Smiley smile

I was so worried about dress shopping I actually checked with H2B that he would still marry me if I turned up in jeans. As I don't get my dress till a week before the wedding when it will be too late to change it if I hate it, so the jeans might still happen!

We'll find something similar to that but better... You're getting closer and closer to "The One" each time! Patience ?

I knew EXACTLY what I wanted for my wedding outfit, but struggled to find it. I found something I liked, but it was way out of my budget and not quite perfect. I was just about to book an appointment to go and see anyway when I found THE ONE on line. OK, so I had to travel the length of the country to get it, and it's not actually in my hot little hand syet, but the point is that if you keep looking you'll find what you want.

Have to tried making a sketch of your ideal dress? Maybe if you try and define what you want it will be easier.
