DH shouted through to me as the story was breaking. Is she 7 weeks or so?

hopefully she and baby will be ok. HG is very unpleasant indeed. Life threatening at times.

i wonder whether she's a secret hitcher, seems to be a general trend n here at the moment!

    Funky - you wish ?

JoJo good call on a girls name that would be lovely.

Unkeen on the boys name though, although its entirely possible thats what they may choose. I like James for a boy actually, was just winding Funky up.

Well I'm thinking they usually name after previous monarchs don't they? which pretty much leaves Henry, James, Louis or Richard for boys and Mary for a girl unless they share the same name with one of the living royals.

ETA actually Prince Harry is actually a Henry isn't he which may rule that out?

If it was a girl I think it would be nice if he called her Diana after his mum but not sure the Queen would be happy with that,

I've said this elsewhere too but am I bad for being indifferent about the whole thing? They are two people I don't know who are having a baby? I'm no more happy for them than I would be for anyone I diddnt know?

perhaps it's my anti baby genes at work but I just don't get it.

This, and I am speaking as someone who is incredibly broody so it's not just you Mini! It's nice for them, but I don't know them, not sure why I'm supposed to care? Unless one of the Hitched babies ends up marrying Kate and William's baby in 25 years, that would be exciting!

But they don't have to be King or Queen first name, they can & often do change their name on ascending the throne. Charles has, I believe, already said he won't become King Charles because of the negative association with previous King Charles. I think he's going to become George VII.

The current Queen's Father, George VI, was actually christened Albert.

She wouldn't 'automatically' become a princess. The title prince/princess is *currently* only bestowed on children on the sovereign and sons of children of the sovereign, although St James Palace are saying she would be awarded the title. Although I agree that it's unlikely to be named Diana, although bet a middle name will be.

The title of Prince of Wales is traditionally awarded to heir of the throne, so technically should move to William when Charles becomes King and then onto the Royal Feotus when William becomes king.

    Oo oo oo names!

I bet Frances or Anna (Frances was Diane's middle name, and Anna rhymes with Diana!?) or Alice.

Or George Philip for a boy.

I am happy for them, but also feel sorry for her that her entire pregnancy is going to be completely in the spotlight. She's obviously not having an easy time of it or she wouldn't be in hospital with HG, but you can bet the paps will be waiting outside the hospital to snap her as soon as she emerges and try to get her looking less than perfect. I used to work literally just down the road from that hospital - it's the same one Phillip was in after the Jubilee - and when he was there there were paps and their vans everywhere (even obstructing ambulances coming to our hospital ?) so I imagine it will be even worse for her. I can't imagine this is how you would choose to experience your first pregnancy.

Actually that's a good point. She could have had 24 hour nursing care at home and could easily have been on a drip at home.

Look at the amount of crap she's had already because she's been admitted to hospital, I've lost count of the number of times I've read that she's getting special treatment because she's a Royal - can you imagine the level of abuse thrown at her if she was treated at home?

Even though I was happy for them I woke up this morning very sad, I had a vivid dream last night that I was pregnant and had given birth to a healthy girl, imagine my horror when I realised it was all just a dream. ?

It is nice news. But it must be a slow news day, there's clearly nothing else going on in the world so Daybreak could whip down to Kate's local and interview all the drunks propping up the bar at 7am. ?

Meh, not too excited about this. Cant be pleasant to have it all over the news and HG sounds horrendous!

Ive already seen something speculating that it might be twins! That's 9 months worth of 'news' stories to be milked out!

Would be nice to get another bank holiday though!

    I agree with this totally.

In the metro this morning someone from the US had done those computer images of what the baby might look like- I think that is awful.

I think it's great that she's upduffed, but only because it's obviously what they want, don't necessarily care that it's the Royals. I have kind of lost a lot of my excitement at other people's babies now I know I can't have my own.

My friend had HG and it was horrendous. She was so poorly for so long and was constantly being admitted into hospital. Feel extremely sorry for Kate having to go through it and having it splashed all over the papers, especially if they weren't ready to announce.

I get confused with the next in line thing, does this mean it goes Charles, William, Royal Foetus?

I assume only if royal fetus is male, then it would be Prince Harry, then Prince Andrew, then I think ti si Prince Edward?

I don't think Royal Foetus has to be male. I think Tortoise is right. Articles certainly say RF is 3rd in line for the throne (i.e. Charles first, Wills second)

Yes they have just changed the law (is it law?) whereby any future child, boy or girl, will be William's successor dependent on age rather than sex. So their first born will be our monarch. Eventually.

The Queen's father was never meant to be King. It was only because his brother (Edward VIII) abdicated that George became King. And George only had girlies for children, so it had to be her next.

If you've ever seen The King's Speech, that's about the Queen's dad.
