erm still dont have a dress....

Kitty824, 30 January, 2011 at 20:51 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hi ladies, just posting because I need a right royal kick up the bum! I still dont have a dress, I dont have a dress on order and I havent been to try one dress on... I think I need to get a move on with only 10 months just over to go....

I think my main concern is they wont have any to fit fit me and the ones that might fit me will just look huge and horrible... (im a size 18) please give me some harsh words...or sympathy! many thanks!

BTW even my man has sorted his suit... Pic is of the best man - H2B wouldnt pose but basically groom is the same but a red cravatt not silver.

I had the exact same worries and was really dreading going to a bridal shop. However, if a dress doesn't fit they generally lace it to you to show it would look. I only had one that really would not go on (damn boobs) and the rest were absolutely fine! I think it's because so many dresses are lace up corsets now- ur far too busy looking at how pretty you are (and in my case marvelling at the fact I had a waist) to even notice that they can see half your back!

My advice would be to go in with an open mind. You won't be the first size 18 woman they have ever found a dress for and will very often bring their own suggestions over that you might not have thought of.

    Hope it goes well!

I'm also a size 18/20 and I went to one shop for my dress and I tried loads on! Even if they werent in my size they put them on me and did it up so I could see exactly how the dress would look. I was absolutely dredding going dress shopping as I was so worried I would look out of place or wouldnt be able to try anything on but the ladies in the shop were so helpful and lovely and even a skinny girl trying dresses on stopped to see me in the dress I eventually chose so I ended up feeling just as special as every bride deserves to feel. Please dont fret, im sure you will have a wonderful experience just like I did ?

U do really need to start looking if your planning on buying a dress that isnt off the peg. I ordered my dress 8 months ahead and it took me months of shopping to find it (im pretty picky). If you have time on side (which u do at the moment) use it wisely to find THE dress.

Dont worry about size!! The ladies have seen it all before and 99% of shops the ladies are lovely and will make u feel like a million dollars whether ur size 8 or 28! Good bridal shops stock dresses to suit all shapes, sizes and heights to make u look ur best.

I was sooo nervous about trying dresses on, first few times i kept my leggings on and just took my top off!

Hey, your best man is a bit of a dish ?

You've still got 10 months, don't beat yourself up about not having a dress yet, but I would suggest going and looking soon. Choose your places carefully though. I'm a 16 and went to a few shops and had such different experiences. One place kept saying 'well obviously you can't see how this will look because we don't have it in your size' (as if I was a friggin elephant!) but then the others were lovely. I also looked at a plus size shop as they have some totally different styles and the woman in there said I was the smallest b2b she'd had lol.

Just bite the bullet and make some appointments. Take a friend or your mum and have fun!

I really wouldn't worry, it generally only takes about 3 months for a dress to come in once ordered then not long at all for any alterations. I only ordered mine a few weeks ago.

    Hi ?

With 10 months to go you've still plenty of time to sort your dress out, but if it's something you know you'll need to order then it's definitely something that you should start looking into fairly soon. I'm a 20, so don't be put off by your size. Look online for bridal shops in your area who specialize in plus size wedding dresses, look for reviews of them. Go to wedding fayres & speak to the dress shops who are there, they will give you an idea of the service they offer.

I've actually only bought my wedding dress in the last couple of weeks and we get married on the 16th April, so if i can do it, you can too !!

TRUST me when I tell you it doesnt matter what size you are - im an 18/20 depending on the cut.

Some of the dresses I was trying on were size 26 and they were pinning me in to get a feel for it!!

Apparently - unlike some shops who dont stock the size or whatever, every girl wants a wedding dress so they stock all sizes.

And dont worry about getting your kit off in front of people - I wasnt actuyally bothered by it but I had lovley woman getting me in to the dresses Smiley smile x

Heya, I wouldn't panic too much over it. I have only ordered my dress on Saturday and I get married in October.

I had done numerous searches online first and went to a shop a few months ago and didn't like any then the dress I liked is now available and that was it when I saw it. I had that moment which I thought I would never have and blimey its great and exciting.

Don't worry either about your size I'm an 18 and felt really comfortable with the ladies in the shop they were great and stopped me worrying.

    Have fun looking X

Kitty, size 18 is NOT big!

I am a size 24 and was worried too, but i tried on lots! I'd be suprised if most shops havent got a dress for you!

I finally ordered mine the weekend (i get married in september) but struggled to choose between the 2 i fell in love with!

    Where are you located?

A good dress shop will have a wide range of sizes & will have seen many brides far far bigger than a size 18! I know how tough it is having issues with your body image & size but dress shops are used to making all shapes & sizes of brides look & feel beautiful. Talk to a few shops before you book your appointments & explain that you are lacking in confidence & then pick whichever dress shops sounds the most sympathetic as they will be most helpful for you. You will look gorgeous in whatever dress you buy, you just need the right shop to help you find it.

Claire198421 - the dress shop you went to sounds awesome!

OMG, are we really into the 'just over 10 month phase!' - i keep telling myself its 11 months which seems like a lot more! Anyway... don't panic about the dress, from what the other ladies are saying regarding ordering in, etc, you still have time to go out an enjoy the experience and please do not worry about size issues..... as someone else, every girl (or most) will need a wedding dress and they have some beautiful styles out there that can enhance and hide all the parts of your body that you love and love a little less. Get out there and have a look but dont rush! you do have time to find your dream dress!

Also, thank you for you flash of the BM.......my OH has been trying to work out what to wear as he doesnt want all black but the silver waistcoat is a fab idea and looks good. (We have had a slight change in colour scheme due to me getting wobbles about everything and needing to make my mind up so we can get invites, etc made).

    Happy dress hunting!!
