Exercise/fitness

Storky, 14 July, 2011 at 17:50 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 41

Tell me tales of movement and fitness. I need to be inspired. What do you do and when do you fit it in around work/kids etc?

I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and do at least an hour. I also walk around town at lunchtime. This is despite getting up at 5am and doing a commute of 140 miles a day. I think most people can do some form of exercise if they really wanted to.

Realise I sound a bit "holier than thou" but as a fatty, I don't think there is any excuse not to exercise.

I'm pretty lazy about getting out and doing stuff but once I'm out I love it! My husband is pretty good, I have to say. He runs every evening when he gets back from work and plays cricket (read stands in a field and stomps back from the wicket once out) once or twice a weekend too.

H and I try and get and get out for an hours walk every evening, much easier in the summer months when it's so much lighter. I like when we have the dog to stay as it really forces us to go out!

I can't get to the gym as there are no decent ones around here, so I walk and run as far as I can along the Chesterfield Canal and the countryside around my village. Love it

I walk the dog for an hour/hour and a half every day. I split it into half an hour before work and however long I can keep going before I collapse from exhaustion after work. And I try to walk to work and to the shops most days. I only do exercise that fits in with my day-to-day life though. I've never been to the gym.

I am a zumbaholic and it is the only exercise I find enjoyable. I have a gym membership but should use it more really.

I do Jazzercise and I love it! It's so much fun. I go twice a week for an hour a session. Although quite often I get home and have a Mars bar ?

I'm just getting back into a decent fitness regime after losing motivation for a bit - I wasn't a total lazy git during this period, but went from doing something every day to twice a week, and pretty lame assed sessions at that. Am back with a vengeance now though, went to a Ftiball class Monday night, track session Tuesday, Biddeford last night, am off to running club now (we have a 7 & a 10 mile route, will probably do the 7 tonight), doing a 1 mile time trial run tomorrow night, may go to the gym Saturday to do some core work and weights, then a long run on Sunday. Don't have kids so no problem fitting it in - I'm lucky in that my hours are reasonably flexible so I can start work earlier/stay later as necesary to fit things in.

I don't have a 'full time' job as such but I am a full time mum to a 17 month old, carer to a 21 year old with ADHD, a Stable Yard Manager & run a dog sitting business from home. I currently go for between 5 & 8 mile run 5 days a week with a pack of dogs. The other 2 days I walk the same distance or sometimes I will cycle it for variation although OH managed to kill our mountain bike a couple of weeks ago. I muck out 5 stables every day which is pretty heavy going. I am also trying to ride 4 horses a day which contrary to popular belief, isn't just sitting there but is physically demanding especially if like me you are doing dressage training. I have just bought the 30 Day Shred dvd as well as I've still got baby weight to lose!

Me too. I generally enjoy exercise when I get going, but it's the getting motivated part I struggle with. Especially in the winter. I've started doing kundalini yoga at home recently, and although not hugely energetic, it destresses me.

Ahh I am getting back to the excercise after a couple of slack months.

I commute every day and get up at 5:30 so I have to fit my excercise in at weekends so

I try and do an hour in the gym or at an excercise class 2 nights a week (on good weeks I do an extra gym at weekennd or go for a jog).

I also do a tap class once a week, and at weekends I go to our allotment.

In addition to this I walk a minimum of a mile and a half (but I don't count that as I have to do that to get to work).

I stay motivated by finding things I enjoy and mixing things up. I also like to set myself goals to beat.

I walk between 2 and 5 miles a day for the school run/walk to and from the train station for work. That's it.... And my diet at the moment is dreadful. My "one week break" from Slimming World has now lasted about 3 months ? Incredibly, I've only put back on about half a stone of the 2 I'd lost before the wedding though so the walking is helping.

That said, I've just handed in my notice at work and the kids are about to break up for 6 week holidays, so I NEED to work some regular exercise into my routine or I'll be a lardy fatbum by mid-August. I've failed at joining the gym recently because I felt too guilty about doing anything that meant more time away from the kids on top of working. In 4 weeks time I'll be working from home though so can justify a couple of hours a week at the gym, or maybe zumba!

Everyday i walk for at least an hour either to and back from work and then to some visits or out and about with my kids. I do try to do toning exercises everyday as well although it seems to be every second day at the minute. This is a throw back from gymnastics and is basically a five minute warm up then 50 reps of lunges, bum lifts, sit ups and squats.

Like Trickers, I walk to and from my car.

I used to be super fit when I was at school. Went to 6 x 45mins dance lessons a week, was in a netball team that trained for an hour twice a week, walked to and from school every day which took 20 mins each way. I now do nothing.

Tuesday Evening: gym for 90 mins

Thursday eveing: gym for 90 mins

Sunday morning: spin class for 45 mins

It's also a 10-15 minute walk from station to office so I do that twice a day five times a week, but I tend not to count that because it doesn't generally occur to me that it's excercise, it's just getting to and from work!

I walk the dog twice a day every day for an hour plus and ride the horse for about an hour on Sundays.

Recently started Zumba on a Monday which is an hour and very energetic.

Since moving house we now walk a lot more than we used to which is good.

I used to spin three times a week but to be honest found it a bit of a chore and prefer what I do now as it's mostly outdoors.

I HATE exercise in any shape or form. I walk to work, but my office is literally across the road from my house. I mooch around town most lunchtimes, but that's nothing. I did get into a really good regime when I was trying to lose weight for my sister's wedding and went to Step and Zumba classes at least 3 times a week. I need my goal to be close though, otherwise I have zero motivation. My (sample) dress is too tight for me at the moment, but I'm leaving it until the beginning of next year to seriously think about it.

I'm definitely up for that! Need all the encouragement I can get - I am inherently lazy when it comes to the gym. Needs must though - I'd like to get rid of this double chin so that I can look at my wedding photos without being angry at myself for not doing anything about it.

    I'm up for this.
    I currently do the following:-
    Mon 45 mins body pump
    Tues 45 mins Zumba
    Wed 45 mins body combat
    Thur 45 mins spinning

If i have the enthusiasm, then on Fridays, I do a 30 min run, then poss. 20 mins swim - but it's Friday, end of week, we finish work early (1pm) and sometimes I just want to go home.
I've signed up for myfitnesspal as well, and log my meal intake as well as exercise routine so I can keep a log of how I'm doing.

Happy to join a thread for encouragement, I know how difficult it can be to go to the gym in the evening, especially once you've got home and settled down.
