    Hi,

I saw a homoeopath in 2000 - I was addicted to Otrivine! Yes very strange I know but if I became even slightly blocked I would get terrible headaches until I had another spray. I had been addicted since I was about 18 and I was treated when I was 31.

The consultation was quite long, he asked about absolutely everything; weight, height, menstrual cycle; lifestyle etc etc.

I cant remember the name of the stuff I was prescribed but I had to place a tiny tablet (he made the whole lot himself) under my tongue two or three times a day and just let it dissolve slowly. It was so tiny that I hardly noticed it was there so it wasnt a chore. After about 2 weeks, I became completely unblocked and my headaches stopped. I havent touched Otrivine since.

I am so grateful to him as I thought I would be a slave to Otrivine for ever and after my experience, I cant recommend homoeopathic treatment enough. Depending on where you are, I can give you his contact details.

I hope you are treated as successfully as I was.

I think many people will argue that its success is down to the placebo effect, but if you get the result you want then surely its worth a try?

I wouldn't use it instead of conventional medicine and I wouldn't part with hundreds of pounds on a whim, but its helped Mr Nora gain some control with a condition that Drs were struggling to sort.

Otrivine "addiction" is actually called rhinitis medicamentosa - the nasal congestion increases on stopping the medication and only resolves by using it again - and is a common condition. It is treated by stopping using otrivine and within a couple of weeks the congestion will settle, with homeopathy or without it.

If you want another anecdote - I had this condition too when I was a medical student and hadn't realised my persistent nasal blockage was caused by me continuing to use topical decongestants. I stopped using it, my nose remained blocked, then it settled and I never had to use any decongestants again. Magic! (or perhaps just "physiology!")

    ?

I will keep my mouth shut on this subject and let Dr Goldacre do the talking for me, as he is far more eloquent.
