Eyebrows...

Cornelius, 18 August, 2010 at 20:27 Posted on Planning 0 31

I hate hate hate my eyebrows and detest plucking them. I am, however, thinking of getting them threaded before the wedding. Has anyone any experience of this? And, if so, does it HURT??!

TIA

Me too I hate mine! I've not tried threading, I've heard it's very good but can leave you quite red for a day or 2. However I did get mine 'arched and tinted' at the Benefit eyebrow bar recently. It was my first time being waxed as I'm usually a plucker, got told off for my plucking too, but they were really good and I'm rather proud of my arch now and will be going back for a touch up about a week before my wedding in October ?

I've had mine threaded before, and it's certainly not comfortable.

Have you tried waxing? It's over much more quickly, and IMO much less painful.

Please, please, please, don't leave it until the week of your wedding to try though!

Hia hun, im actually i beauty therapist and can honestly say thready is kind of painful, allthough so is waxing. It all depends on who does it.. i would recomed going to a good salon and paying a bit extra and getting it done as it may hurt less as it is all in the technique!

I have had threading, wax and plucking and I have to say, I hate threading, it was really painful and I am someone who actually finds getting their eyebrows plucked very relaxing!! I get waxing done the most as my salon seems to do that better than tweezers. With waxing, I find it is over and done with very quickly so would recommend that!

My issue with waxing is the need to have them grow out first. I tend to pluck as I can do this every other day and keep them in check!!

Quite surprised at the replies so far ? I have mine threaded at the House of Fraser Brow Bars and find them no more painful than waxing and also redness lasts no longer than 12 hours.

I've read somewhere that taking a painkiller a couple of hours before for any waxing or threading helps to reduce any pain and from my experience works.

The only prob I have is getting my arms in a knot when they ask me to hold my brow up!

Argh! Only got 2 weeks to the wedding... I HATE plucking...it makes me sneeze (don't ask!)

Don't know what to go for for the best. I have never had anything waxed and have annoyingly sensitive skin and am worried I would get a big rash from waxing.. something I probably shouldn't have left to the last minute!

I hate tweezing as well, but I do it cause I hate waxing more. I usually go for a wax when I'm going on holiday or for a special occasion Smiley smile I have heard that threading is really sore so i'm scared to try it Smiley smile Jxx

I'd go for waxing, Ive been plucked, threaded and waxed. none of it is pain free but waxing is my favourite, and I find it quite relaxing. Try it out with plenty of time for your wedding though as some wax virgins go temporarily a bit bumpy...this is normal though. xx

Hi.... i had mine threaded yesterday! I have also had them waxed and of course tweezed them. I think threading is the most uncomfortable but to be honest it doesn't last long enough to worry about it. My brows were still a little red today though but i am very fair. I think waxing is my fave as you seem to get the best shape and if they miss one they tweeze it.

I would recommend waxing then. I have very sensitive skin and had been avoiding the wax/thread eyebrow scenario until I turned 30! Honestly the waxing arch at Benefit was really good, any professional would be good because they do it so fast so it wouldn't hurt too much. Little bit red for a bit then it's all over and you have lovely shaped brows. Doesn't half make a difference, that's what I found anyways!

    Hi Twinnie!

I get mine threaded and to be honest it is uncomfortable but not painful. My redness lasts about 4 hours. I think threading gives the best result!

    Good luck.

I'm very fair and have blonde eyebrows too with sensitive skin. I prefer waxing because it's a neater finish and it lasts longer. I have it done at a salon and to be honest, I've never experienced any pain at all. It's so fast, it doesn't hurt at all. I am a little bit red afterwards and occasionally have a couple of bumps the next day but it soon goes. I love the neater finish of waxing to plucking as it gets all the finer hairs off too which plucking sometimes misses. I never pluck myself anymore! I used to when I was younger but ended up with horrid brows because they all grew wild because I didn't do it properly (I got a telling off at the salon too Smiley winking Never tried threading but once saw it being done in House of Frazer and it didn't look pleasant! I asked at my salon about threading and she says to be careful because they need to be licenced to do threading and there are a lot of people doing it who aren't.

Yes it does hurt, but waxing hurts too... I think its alot cleaner then waxing and the pain goes when finished where as with waxing I find my eyebrows still a bit red...

I really reccomend growing your eyebrows a bit for about a week, it will be hard as it will look an absolutle mess but you'll get a really nice finish, I got mine done the day before the wedding and they were fine for the big day!

    xx

I always used to get my eyebrows plucked (once a month) by my beauty therapist and it wasn't too painful, although i always had a tissue on standby for those sneezing moments. then she changed jobs so i let my eyebrows get a bit out of control for about 2 months until my SIL suggested threading. I tried it, it wasn't too painful - only as much as plucking, made my eyes water a little and i had a bit of redness, but the end result was amazing - much better than plucking. If you can cope with being a bit uncomfortable for about 10 mins, then go for it.

I get mine waxed regularly at a salon. The pain is not that bad and only lasts a few seconds.

I've had my eyebrows threaded. Its a bit uncomfortable but doesn't last long and I'm a right wimp so would say if it really hurt! The redness went down after just a couple of hours for me and I have quite sensitive skin. I've found the prices vary I've paid between £2 and £5. It's worth a try! x

I'm in the waxing camp - the idea of threading makes my stomach go a bit funny! You do need to be careful though, as I've had it done some places where they've done it uneven. Why don't you post where you are in the country and see if anyone can reccomend anywhere.

My friend swears by the threading, she gets them done in Selfridges.

I prefer waxing tho, in and out in 5 mins and much less painful and a lot cheaper. Even if you don't have many hairs to tidy up, they give them a nice shape.

I am converted to threading! Its a tiny bit painful but not much more than tweezer and the finish is perfect. Threading only left me a little red for a couple of hours.

I have tried waxing and for me much its too harsh and painful. I also don't think they can get it as good shape wise and always left with a few near other hairs that should not be there!! x

    Hi There

I am a qualified therapist and my personal preference is waxing. With the wax you get a cleaner finish (with that immaculate look) it removes them fine downy hairs that you cant get with the tweezers. If you go to a good therapist/salon it shouldnt really be to uncomfortable. Erythema (redness) is normal and should go down in less than 12 hrs, If not beleive it or not a warm-hot compress (wet cloth/cotton wool) is the best solution, this takes the redness out pretty much immediatly - this isnt textbook, just tricks of the trade!

Also you dont have to leave your brows to grow in to a monobrow before you get them waxed, usually these can be waxed at the stage you would pluck them - When they get to that cant cover the strays with make up stage which is for me a few days after plucking.

    I hope this helps x x

I have mine threaded every 2 weeks and have done for the past 6 years. It does hurt but it's so worth the pain. The shape it gives you is great. My eyebrows are only red for a few hours afterwards and I have very sensitive skin. It gets rid of all the tiny fine hairs that you get and give you a lovely finish.

I had mine waxed once before as the threading place was shut and I was going out that evening. And would NEVER have them waxed again. The shape was rubbish.

With waxing once they put the wax on those are the hairs that will be coming out and if you get one or two hairs wrong it can ruin the shape (which it did for me) whereas with threading they can take one hair out at a time if needs be therefore alot more control over the shape.

I have really sensitive skin around my eyes, and I have mine waxed. I usually have them done every 6-8 weeks. If you go to an experienced beauty therapist, you shouldn't have any problems. I always look bright red afterwards, but it totally disappears after about 30-60 mins.

I did once have mine waxed by a therapist who didn't take much care, and she took some skin off! That has only ever happened once though, and the skin was quite delicate at the time.

I usually have my eyebrows waxed which I find fine. It stings a teeny bit for a second and then its gone.

I had my brows threaded for the first time about a week ago and I thought it felt really nice. Didn't hurt me at all.

Go for it. The shape from both waxing and threading is fab.

I used to try and pluck mine and I always went a bit over the top. For years (before I started having them waxed) my eyebrows were way too thin. Then have now grown and I have a shape that I am pleased with.

I prefer threading. Yes it does hurt, as does waxing and plucking, but its nothing unbearable. Threading has always given my eyebrows a much better shape, and whenever I have had them waxed they have had to pluck as well as waxing doesnt get the correct shape. That may be just me.

I totally forgot about my eyebrows until I was getting my nails done the afternoon before my wedding and ending up having them waxed at the nail salon. They looked naff but I dont suppose anyone noticed ?
