Favour Inspiration

oggers86, 15 August, 2013 at 22:17 Posted on Planning 0 21

The original plan was to make some chocolate fudge but as the wedding breakfast is being held in a conservatory I am a bit concerned about it melting. I had a batch in the fridge this morning, left the fridge open accidently for a few minutes and it had already started to melt a bit so I can just imagine how it would be after 3 hours...

Ideally I would like to make something but there isnt massive amount of room in the budget. I considered skittle vodka but I think it will work out too expensive by the time you have bought all the mini bottles, vodka, skittles, filters etc. I was thinking of spending around £50 and it is for 50 people in total (anything containing alcohol would be for 43)

I already have little cellophane bags so anything I can put in those would be a bonus!

Ideas please Smiley smile

Thanks

What about little cookies like these for the men/women?
    Or personalised cupcakes or something?

    A few ideas...

    Sweets in little jars?

Apples with personalised stickers? I love these, they are so cute ;-)

Popcorn? You could put it in your cellophane bags.

Sweets in traditional paper bags? You can get stripey paper bags really cheap off eBay.

Cake Pops? You could utilise your cellophane bags.

Personalised tea bags? You could DIY these?

If you need stickers for whatever favours you decide on, I bought these from eBay and was pleased with them. They are really cheap as well ;-)

They come in all different colours and designs, £2.30 for 40

I think I'm going to make hot chocolate spoons, they will be cheap and as its chocolate I can freeze it and take out the night before to put in fridge then it will be perfect when sitting on table. On iPad so can't flash my inspirations

What about cake pops? You can decorate/colour them to your theme and the celephane bags would be great wrapped around them Smiley smile

Whoops, I didn't see the cake pop flash already posted! Sorry! Well, it's another vote for cake pops!!

I like the cake pop idea, less messy as well as you have a stick to eat it with, plus I can use my bags to wrap around the the curling ribbon to secure it. Will check with OH tonight that he isnt against the idea of cake pops (men are funny creatures so you never know!) and then I can get some recipes and give it a go.

An idea for a non-edible favour is these: Extremely low cost. To make 100 including bags has cost £40.

Scottish tablet instead of fudge? Same principle but it is harder more sweetie like and doesn't melt in the heat. Keeps really well too so can be made in advance?

Having looked at the recipe I made something very similar on my first fudge recipe. It was really hard and crumbly but tasted horrible, way too sweet!

We're having wild flower seeds in glass testtubes (with cork stoppers) - I'm a chemist so it suits. You can also use little pocket envelopes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cute-business-card-craft-seed-favour-money-MINI-ENVELOPES-x-10-END-flap-/231025019459?pt=UK_Crafts_CraftingPaper_EH&var=&hash=item35ca2a0a43

I got 50 testtubes with stoppers for about £15.00 on ebay and wildflower seed it cheap and cheerful.

Going to add little manilla tags with guest names and instructions for sowing :p

Haha - if it tasted too sweet then you definately made it right then ? I don't really like it either, can have one small square with a cuppa to wash it down with, otherwise it's far too much for me! It's a very common favour at weddings here.

I gave a small piece to the OH to try and it resulted in a look of utter horror on his face so I think it is safest not to go down that route.

Did you use the marshmallow fudge recipe? I find that doesn't melt much

No I used a Kirsty Allsop recipe that was made up of chocolate, condensed milk, icing sugar and butter.

We have finally decided on favours.

We are going with cookies after making a batch last night which turned out quite well. Another practice batch needed but I took them to work today and everybody seemed to like them.

I have just bought a cat shaped cutter so that we can have cat shaped cookies, I am a crazy cat lady so it is completely perfect, I am unsure if they will fit in our bags though as the cutter itself fits in the bag but once the cookies expand then they might not so I may have to go buy a roll of florist cellophane and use that.

I'm getting married in December and have decided to go for little bottles of homemade flavoured alcohol. It works out pretty cheap really Smiley smile The bottles are 50ml and I got 200 off ebay for £60 (you can get smaller amounts!). Then all I need is apples, cinnamon, vodka (cheap kind!) and brown sugar, mix it together in a large container over a few months/weeks adding sugar as the old stuff dissolves, then close to the wedding sift the apples/cinnamon sticks out and pour into wee bottles with tags. Viola!

I'm doing similar but have bought mini kraft envelopes, wild flower seeds and a wooden button for embellishment. 100 favours for less than £15.
