First records

ForTheLoveOfMrsBrown, 23 June, 2011 at 17:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

For those too young to know, vinyl records are what old people used to put into primitive CD players (my niece-to-be thought this).

What was the first single and/or first album you ever bought?

My first album was Shakin' Stevens Greatest Hits (Woolworths with £8 of birthday vouchers). I think I was about 6 or 7 years old.

My first single was (some time later) "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues and Kirstie Maccoll, aged 11.

For my 7th Birthday I was given "Kayleigh" on record, which is the song my Dad named me after. Does that count?

Otherwise - I bought my Dad a faithless record for his birthday when I was around 15 - so that was my first record purchase, in 2002.

I got a Stock, Aitken and Waterman album on vinyl, along with Especially For You by Kylie and Jason.

First CD single was Red Dragon - Compliments on your Kiss https://youtu.be/1nuJDJxpbdM

I seem to remember having a few Now LPs (12 and 15 spring to mind specifically) but don't think I bought them.

I spent more time recording the top 40 on the cassette deck and trying to not get the DJ talking every Sunday than buying music!!

Won't let me post the you tube video, must be doing something wrong!

The song, I am very ashamed to say, was Terry Wogan and The floral dance.

I didn't have any vinyl either, but my first tape was Kylie, by Kylie. The one where she has a sort of hat on, but her hair was all spilling out of the top. Then something by Martika. Such a cool youngster!

    Ruddy Hell [its soft cell]

I had "The Frog Chorus" on video and used to have to watch it before I went to bed every night.

I tried to explain to Lil Miss Mini that in the olden days [the 1980's] we diddnt have DVD's she said she "felt sorry for us"

    Bless
