Flowers - the girls bouquets, to be specific!

Blonde Viki, 1 March, 2012 at 20:42 Posted on Planning 0 8

I have most of my bridesmaid outfit type things sorted. The only area where I remain undecided, is the flowers. I can’t decide what will look best. The options appear to be…

1) We all have the same (pink).

2) They have pink, I have white.

3) I have pink/bright, they have white/pale.

4) There also seems to be an option of both my and the bridesmaids bouquets being mixed, though with the bridal bouquet having more of the white and a bit of colour and the bridesmaid bouquets having mostly colour with a few white flowers. Seen below done with sunflowers (I'm having pink roses or peonies, but this gives you an idea of what I mean!):

I think this has the potential to look really lovely but I am concerned that the bouquets will look a little too much how the centrepieces are planned to look and secondly, it has the potential to look a bit ‘busy’.

What are you doing? What do you think looks best?

We are having dusky pink roses, a slight variation for the BM/FGs ones in contrast to mine. I am having antique roses. Our colour theme is ivory and cappuccino/Mocha with accents of dusky pink.

I like the idea of option 4, having a mixture and yours being predominately white and theirs more colourful. I personally think it would bring it all together nicely. I like a mixture of colours and textures (although I opted for one colour as we are having silk, bloody hayfever!)

I'm having white/ivory orchids and the BM's are having pink roses. I like the idea of number 4 and having them all the same just make yours bigger, and I think having a mixture of both peonies and roses would be nice too. Would you mix the colours and have both pink and white then or keep it the same?

    Thanks for the comments!

The BM dresses are pistachio-y green.

The flowers I've picked are these, pink peonies, sweet avalanche roses, stock and a bit of hydrangea (this is a practice run of the centrepieces - the bouquets probably wouldn't need hydrangea and would be a bit more tidy, going for the natural look on the tables!)

You need to flip this as if you put mainly white flowers around a white dress they can fade into the background. Having been a florist for a good few years this was always something we warned against, as you need to boost your foliage to make it stand out. It is fine when looking at everything on the day, but the photos will be the ones to suffer.

Personally it is a nice mix of flowers. Hydrangea can be a problem in a handtied bouquet as it needs water or can flop. You could do the colour swaping idea of using white peonies with the mix of roses and stocks in your bouquet and then the pink peonies and white/pale pink roses in the bridesmaids bouquets. You could also do an alteration that uses spray roses instead of large headed ones like the sweet avalanche. This creates texture within the bouquets. Freesias are also another great flower to add as this gives another dimension and texture. Just to give you an idea I have added a couple of photos.

This is with white peony, Sweet Avalanche roses and Amnesia roses

This is using Coolwater rose, freesia and veronica. All of which you can get in a combination of whites and pinks.

This is Sweet Avalanche roses with Smaller spray roses in the same colour, stocks and rosemary.

That's really helpful! I was worried about the lack of contrast with my dress if I had pale/white flowers - and besides, pink is my favourite colour, so it's no fun for me if the girls get the pink bouquets!!

Thank you for the pictures crafty bride - the top one is very close to what I'm thinking, though I didn't consider white peonies before now, I'll definitely add those on to the list of things to mention to my flower lady Smiley smile

Your welcome. Not sure when you are getting married but Peonies have a very short season and you may find that certain colours can't be got at certain points, but your flower lady should be able to help with that one.
