For all of the DIYers...

oggers86, 29 August, 2012 at 12:07 Posted on Planning 0 9

What glue/adhesive did you use to make your invitations?

I tried double sided sticky tape which isnt great at sticking anything but it especially will not stick card to card. Paper to card its better but still not amazing. Pritt stick is pretty useless as well.

I also need a suitable glue to stick ribbon to card..

I have considered PVA but I am wary of it being too wet, especially on paper.

Any suggestions?

TIA!

I'm in the same situ at the mo and have been on craft forums to get advice. General consensus seems to be DS tape for ribbon to card because glue can seep through. I'm then using pritt stick and DS tape for holding the pockets down (card to card). Seems to be working ok so far.

I used Prit Stick Glue Dots (for the corrners as they are mega strong) - got them from Wilkinsons and they worked quite well. Then general Prit Stick for the long bits, just left them under weights. Perhaps nip into Hobby Craft as they could offer guidence?

I did all my crafty bits with Pritt Stick, card to paper, card to card, ribbon to card and even ribbon to ribbon, it just needs a little bit of pressure for a few seconds.

I wonder if maybe we werent giving it enough time (me and my mum are both impatient) Perhaps if I applied a bit of pressure it would be fine..

I do have tons of pockets that I wont use (thought I needed way more than I did) If I have some card and paper left over when I have finished printing and cutting then I will give sticking another go with pritt stick and see what happens..

You can get extra strong double sided tape. The one I used had a red backing and bought it from ebay. I used it for just about everything. Stuck fabric and ribbon to glass jars, card to card and fabric to card. It was great stuff.

I initally used DS tape that came out of an applicater & worked fine- BUT, within a few days, the pocketfolds all opened up!!!

I ended up using a PVA glue that goes clear when dry. I sqeezed some onto a plate & used a toothpick to apply to the bits I wanted stuck. I used this for the pocketfold, to attach all the ribbon & diamantes. It was time consuming & if you use too much it will squeeze out at the sides. I found that it stuck everything very well though & nothing came apart in the post.
