Fringes

Knees, 16 October, 2014 at 12:04 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 28

I've just had a thick fringe cut and I love it, but I only had it done on Saturday and it already feels like I need it trimmed!

How often do you have your fringe trimmed?

Do you feel your fringe gets greasier than the rest of your hair?

I trim my own. Its not that hard with a good pair of scissors. and a bowl...... Ok I was kidding about the bowl. It's more of a big casserole dish..... I only take tiny amounts of each time as I like my fringe long. I would be at the hairdressers every week otherwise.

Mine also gets greasier so I use dry shampoo on it in a morning which helps soak up any oil during the day. Sometime I also only wash my fringe rather than all my hair as I find the rest of my hair needs washing less often. Just put a shower cap over part of your head and shampoo only the front bit. (saw that tip in a mag once and can't believe I never thought of it before!)

When I wear a side fringe it can definitely get a bit lank and greasy (I have fine hair so it's v.obvious) - I tend to pin back, so good to hear some alternative tips.

I loved my thick fringe! I'm lucky though as my sister is a trained hairdresser so used to trim it for me but I also liked it long (ALWAYS below the eyebrows!)

I used to find that it got greasier than the rest of hair as it was always in contact with my skin but as Cinnamon suggests I just used to wash my fringe rather than all my hair.

I did manage to wash it on its own the other day. I think I just play with it more because it's there!

I always have a fringe - big spam head without one!! And yes, it definitely needs washing more often. I hadn't thought of washing just the fringe though!!!

Did you go for a BEYONCE? Smiley winking just heard them comparing her to Slade on TV!!

I had a fringe cut in last year for the first time since school,.. I was thinking I'd look all Zoey Deschanel. Forgot how difficult my thick/wavy hair is to tame, and how quickly my hair gets greasy. It was a disaster, made worse by the fact that I'm lazy in the mornings. I never had it trimmed because I couldn't wait for it to grow out!

Having said that, I love the look on others and am insanely jealous when I see it work!

Mine needs trimming every couple of weeks really, it grows fast. In reality I trim it probably every 5 weeks as I can't be bothered, I just curl it under with my straighteners to shorten it for as long as I can get away with! I do it myself with hairdressing scissors in the mirror and hope for the best. It does get greasy so I wash it every night even if I don't wash my hair.

I trim mine about once a month, but I would say I balls it up about one time in every six, including the last time. Despite years of practice, I am clumsy and impatient and I rush and don't concentrate properly. But it grows back within a couple weeks, so y'know. My hair is naturally wavy so it goes frizzy and curly in hot or humid weather, so I carry around battery powered mini straighteners most of the time to tidy it up. It's pretty high maintenance. I have a giant forehead though, so it's better than the alternative.

I know Zooey D is growing hers out a bit now, and I'm quite tempted to do the same after the wedding. I think it'll be less faff.

I have a total girl crush on Zooey D!

I used to use dry shampoo on mine (side sweepy), all grown out now and I'm bored of my super long boring brown hair again!!

Me too. I used to watch every episode of New Girl at least twice cos I would spend most of the first viewing concentrating on how good her hair looked and why I couldn't get mine to look like that. It doesn't help that I've had to have mine cut to shoulder length to get all the dye and bleach out and I hate it. But her fringe game is tight. Also see Jameela Jamil and Carly Rae Jepsen.

I trim mine when it gets too long. I have only occasionally done it too short but if I do, I just part it and it's ok. Or leave it curly-ish.

Beyonce does have a rather odd fringe, but didn't she have one like it before? I'm sure she did in lady gaga telephone video?

Mrs Bass, I have curly hair and I have to straighten the fringe every day. It's barely any hassle in the mornings and I have the absolute minimum time available to get ready. The biggest hassle is getting the straighteners away from an inquisitive toddler!

Here's the fringe - massive change for me (will remove later)

I straighten mine every day too, usually with a bit of hairspray to keep it in place. With the greasiness, I find mine goes the other way and is too fluffy immediately after washing, so I use homemade dry shampoo (cornflour and cocoa powder) on it instead. Or talc/face powder in desperate times.

I had a full fringe for about 13 years! But when I was dress shopping and I tried veils on I found I looked ridiculous with a thick fringe (not saying anyone else would btw, just didn't look right for me). I ended up growing it out and having a side fring instead, which I now prefer. Mine does get greasy quicker, especially as I move it / play with it quite often. I wash my hair every morning anyway though so never gets too greasy in that time.

As for trimming, when I had a full fringe I'd just trim it myself. Only a little bit at a time though or it can end up horrific!

Knees that rally suits you!! and you resemble Zooey D in that pic!!

I think im going to go for it, just fancy a change! to be fair my hairdressers is pretty honest with me so if he thinks its a bad idea, he'll refuse to do it! ha ha!

I know they do free fringe trimming but it'll e such a hassle to get into town just to get my fringe cut!!

I LOVE thick fringes! Every year I have one cut in, get fed up with how much I have to have it trimmed and then grow it out again. Promptly followed by wanting a full fringe again..

this is me with a full fringe

My fringe is a massive bug bear of mine but it has to stay because of my massive egg head. It gets greasier than the rest of my hair so I use dry shampoo if I am putting my hair up but don't want to wash it. It needs cutting every few weeks, probably every 2-3 but I am lazy and disorganised so it ends up being too long and parts in the middle.

I would prefer no fringe but I suspect a lot of it is due to not having a choice.

    Nice fringe Knees!

I now have major fringe envy as l can't do one as my hair is too wavy / fine / annoying. The most l can do is a cheeky side fringe and that pushes me to my limits

I took the plunge and got one! I love it!! my hairdresser said to go in for a free fringe trim and begged me to to trim it myself!

he also recommended blow drying it with a round brush then to lean forward so you can spray hairspray on the inside of the fringe so it doesnt stick to your forehead if it gets sweaty!
