From the Menu threads - how much did you/are you paying.....

Gillsy, 19 November, 2009 at 14:01 Posted on Planning 0 29

Just following on from the menu threads on here, a few questions.......

How much did you pay/are you paying for your dinner?

How many courses are you getting for that?

Is it a set menu or are there choices for guests as to what they will have for each course?

Ta x

    Paying - £45 per head

Courses - The 45 includes champagne and canapes on arrival and then 3 courses

Choices - There are oodles of things for us to choice from and but we cant pass the choice onto the guests, we select the whole menu beforehand.

We have a miniumum food & drink spend of £2500 (+ VAT) which we can use how we want. We have a large menu and can pick and choose what we put into it (i.e. you might only want 2 courses...)

    There's a choice of 13 starters (£6.40-£7.25), 20 mains (£17.45-£28.00) and 9 desserts (£6.15)

As dar as I know, it's set for all (except veggies)

Off the top of my head, we're planning to spend on corkage, starter, main, cheese, a charge for serving our own dessert and coffee and it was coming out around £55 ish per person.

We're paying about £50 a head for 4 courses - a fixed Entree, a fixed soup course, a choice of two mains and a choice of two desserts. It also covers coffee/tea and fudge afterwards. The vegetarians have a different entre, the soup is veggie so it's fine, a fixed main and the choice of desserts but we had to let the venue know in advance how many people would want the veggie option. It meant we had to send the menus out with the invitations as even though not veggie we thought at least a couple of the guests might find the normal menu a bit "challenging", even with the choices!

The drinks package on top of that is about £12 a head and gives them a glass of bubbly on arrival, one after the ceremony, one for the toasts and I think one bottle between two for the meal. (Just realised I may have added an extra glass of vino on there, maybe it's just the post-ceremony one.....will need to check!)

Ours was about £50 for the 3 course meal.

This didn't include reception drinks, wine with dinner, champagne toasts, tea and coffees, evening buffet etc which all came in on top of that.

Ours is also £75 a head for the first 80 guests, and then it goes down to £55 per head after that, £25 per head for children. Saying that, those prices are not just for the sit down meal but for the whole wedding package so we get a bit more for that as a whole if you know what I mean (not an amazing lot though, so it is still pretty steep!)

There is quite a lot of choice for food actually, have just looked and there are 31 different starters, 46 different mains and 41 different desserts. Out of these, OH and I can narrow it down to a choice from 2 starters, 3 mains and 2 desserts and send the options out with our invitations. Our guests can then can choose which ones they want out of the ones we've selected.

Ooh, I just realised ours is for the "package" as well so it includes: overnight stay for B&G, all venue flowers, cake stand and knife, printed menus and place cards etc. Our venue also has no hire charge so you just pay for the "package" price and that covers everything (although there is a £560(?) fee to have the ceremony itself there).

Ours is going to be roughly £35 a head for a 3 course meal and childrens menus are about £15 I think. Drinks roughly another £20 per person (that's where they are stinging me!)

One venue we looked at charged £50 + vat for childrens meals! ?

We choose caterers for are venue, with the caterers we have chosen they price each course and we can choose what ever we want. We haven't made our final decision yet but if we take the most expensieve option of our chosen mains (we have picked startes and puddings) then we are paying

£42.49 (including VAT) per adult this includes

    3 course meal

    tea/coffe

drinks package (of 2 welcome drinks 1/2 a bottle of wine and a glass of sparkling wine for toasts)

Children under 12 get child portion at half price and clearly they don't get the drinks package!

3 courses for 27.50. It had actually gone up by the time we got married but they charged us the price we were told at the time of booking.

Our venue are charging £30 and £15 for children.

For that we get 3 courses, coffee & petit fours, drink on arrival and for the toast.

Our guests get a choice of 12 starters and desserts and 3 main courses (most places we looked at required us to choose one set menu for everyone though)

£30 per head for 3 courses and tea / coffee. Not giving guests a choice although will cater for veggies / allergies etc. I think we are going to have canapes on top of that. We are bringing our own wine / prosecco with no corkage charge so that should be quite reasonable.

    Thanks!

Its a council run venue.. not very very posh but nice inside Smiley surprise)

Had a run in with them because they put the price up form 37 to 38.50.

I booked it in 2008 tax year at 37 they put it up to 38.50 for 2009.

I threw a bit of a wobbly about what 2010 prices would be as they said prices were not frozen and they said they would freeze at 2009 prices.

This is only my 3rd post but is very interesting to hear what everyone else is paying... ours is definitely at the steep end but I'm telling myself that it is London prices and supposedly a Michelin starred chef.

Works out as £75 per head for champagne on arrival and for the speeches, half a bottle of wine during the meal, 3 courses, coffee, canapes. Though we are considering increasing the amount of wine per guest which will of course increase things further..

We paid £30 per head. We had meat and seafood platters served family style at the tables with nice breads as a starter.

For main, we had a buffet. Choices were Lamb Tagine, Chicken Provencal or Spinach and Pea Risotto with Couscous, roast potatos and Seasonal Veg as sides.

For dessert we had Petit Fours served at the tables.

Welcome drinks, wines and evening buffet brought the cost up to about £68 per head.

We didn't have to pay a venue hire fee, just had to reach a minimum spend of $5K. Not bad for central London!

I was told (by a reasonable drinker) that half a bottle of wine per person is classed as a "boozy wedding". Most functions cater at this amount. D wanted to supply more wine than that at ours until we were told it was about right. And I did point out to him that on a nice meal out, we only get through one bottle between us and there's always plenty.

Of course, it's entirely up to you how much you want to spoil your guests ?

We are having 3 course meal followed by coffee and chocolates. THe price for that is £24.50 per adult. Our wine is £14.50 per bottle, welcome drink of Pimms £28.75 per jug, champagne toast £3.80 per person.

ETA - We had to choose 2 of each course for our guests to choose from.

Think I have the cheapest meal here! And it's in a really posh restaurant!

We're paying £46 per person, for that each person gets a 3 course meal, a drink after the ceremony, 2 glasses of wine, sparkling wine for the toast, and coffee (I think - need to check the coffee part). This prices also includes our table decorations (to be negotiated with contracted florists), cake stand, menus, table plan and blank place name cards.

There are about 6 or 7 choices per course I think but we choose in advance with a menu tasting lunch thingy. Children are £12.50 I think. There's no room hire charge except for the room we're having the ceremony in.

Lol I just realised how many times I typed "I think" in that post - I need to shape up and start taking control of my own wedding ha ha!
