Getting married on Sunday. Quick Rant

BespokeTailor, 25 August, 2011 at 22:15 Posted on Planning 0 13

So the wedding is on Sunday. I am looking forward to it. I am a bit anxious about giving a speech, having to dance and the usual stuff. But it seems some people are out to deliberately drive me bonkers.

1. No booze until 5 drama. I had a family member pull out of the wedding because i would not let them bring their own cans of lager. Our wedding starts at 3pm with a cream tea lunch. Bar opens at 5. For some reason this family member found this unacceptable and wanted to bring his own cans of lager. I told him politely that was not appropriate. I received a text last week, he and his partner will not be attending.

2. Stag do drama. My 2 best friends organised and paid for 3 stag dos. 1. A day out to chessington with my 8 year old step-son (my BM) 2. A messy night out in London, ice bar, club , casino and golf the next day. 3. A quieter night locally for the older family. I never did a thing, never invited anyone but one family member was not invited. This is probably because we dont get on and my friends probably thought it was for the best. This then caused other family members to throw a hissy-fit and not attend. (4 more less guests).

3. Mystery guest drama. My OH uncle has been in contact with his long-lost son. He or anyone has met this guy in 20 years (since he was 3 or 4) and he decided to invite him to our wedding (2 weeks ago) without asking. I was a bit annoyed but agreed reluctantly. Now tonight I have had a text from OH uncle asking if long-lost son could also bring his girlfriend, ARGHH!

4. Suppliers poor communication. I have been emailing around suppliers, just to make sure that everything is OK for Sunday. 3 suppliers have replied with, "everything is OK, see you Saturday" arghhh. After emailing right back all 3 have said "oh yeah, that's right"

Anyway rant over.

Sounds a nightmare. Why don't people think?

Hope your stag dos were great anyway, and I'm sure you're going to have an amazing day

Oh no! Well don't worry about guest no 1 as sounds like he'd be a trouble maker on the day so that's one less thing to worry about. Maybe the other inconsiderate guests who have dropped out can make way for the new people (family) in your life :-) it could be a nice welcome to the family if he did come along. Try not to stress, things like this always crop up. The important people are the ones who will be there on the day with you, sod the rest of them I say!

Thanks guys, I am sure it will be OK. Just seems to be something everyday now.

It will be all good. As long as we both turn up. ?

    1. You were absolutely right to say this. It's not a summer bbq ffs!

    2. Hope your stag dos were great. with the people you love in attendance.

    3. No words. What have you said about the girlfriend. Personally I'd say Hell no!

    4. Last thing you need but I'm sure they have everything in hand.

Can't believe your wedding is this Sunday!

    Thanks Guys,

I am alot better today. Just needed a little rant yesterday. All good now.

I said no to the girlfirend in the day time, I said she can come along after 7. No reply yet.

For those asking about the stag dos. They were incredible. I am so grateful to my friends. If you haven't been to the ice bar in London, you should try it. ?

Thank you for creating my GL thread, I never expected to get one, being a rarely seen HIB and everything. What are the rules? I can look at it after the day or the day before or on the day?

    as usual thanks Hitched.

Aw I'm so sorry that things have been a bit rubbish, I can't believe some of the things I have read on Hitched with regards to people expectation's for the weddings they have been asked to attend!!

ETA - You're not supposed to read your GL thread until the day or once you have signed off, if you cheat you will get spots.....

Just seen this - glad you're feeling better today. Always astounds me how some family members behave in the run up to weddings. It will all fade into insignificance on the day & it will be marvellous - trust me!

YBH if these are your only problems you're doing pretty well!

Yes, it's annoying when things don't quite go according to plan and other people stick their oar in, but at the end of the day you'll have a fab wedding.

That all sounds very annoying but the main thing is that there's nothing that's going to spoil your big day.

I am very jealous of you having such good mates - they sound incredibly organised and thoughtful!
