Google street view

vicbic, 19 March, 2009 at 19:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 39

Are you on it? Its on googlemaps now, for 25 cities in the uk.

My city is included, but they haven't gone out as far as us, which is a shame (or is that really a good thing, I ask myself!?

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/0,1000000097,39630016,00.htm

Apparently if you put your full postcode into google and then click on the orange man, it will go the picture.

Waaah it's got our house and my skanky car looking filthy ?

I think it'll be cool to use if you're looking at moving house or trying to find somewhere before you set out.

It's great isn't it? My car is on there, MrH's isn't. Our wheelie bin is the only one in the whole street that's out, bin tidying sluts that we are ?

It's cool - I spent half this afternoon looking at friends and family's houses, and places I used to live in London and Bristol.

Dave Gorman found himself on streetview ? http://gormano.blogspot.com/2009/03/wheres-wally.html

The whole of NZ has been live for a while now - my Dad was really excited when I moved house as he could check out all my new neighbourhood online, rather then me just trying to describe it to him.

I'll have to see if I can spot my old house in London on there.

I see the 'locar' too Zoay ?

Glad you posted that Dave Gorman blog Flowery, I was wondering how they did it. That Bethnel Green photo doesn't look like him though, even when you squint.

We're on it. My car isn't there (I was probably at work when it was taken) but can see our wedding photo on the bedroom window sill.

I can see my car in the car park at work, and a load of kids I recognise at the bus stop outside the school. Scary that I know most of them even though their faces have been pixellated!

They've done Aberdeen but they haven't done the centre of town so you can see my block of flats but you can't go past them on the road to the side. Though you can see my pal's house clearly out in the burbs!

    Ho hum

We're not on there as we're out in the wilds of notLondon. I've been looking at my parents' house though ? and old houses we lived in in Oxford. I'm not sure what I think of it, tbh. Does seem somewhat invasive potentially.

Just had a look at the streets I wander down, but I think I was hard at work...my office window is open. It was taken mid-morning on a wednesday last August as the bin men are in the street at about that time (and they collect on a wednesday) and there's a big sign for a concert that was put up last august.

Off to look for my parents now ?

The google car that they use to take the photos was seen in Brighton yesterday, so I think we'll be next. I have already found my friends house in London, shame you can't peer into the windows to be nosy!!

A friend saw the streetview car in Geneva today, so we shouldn't be far behind. Bet they won't come anywhere near our tiny village though ?

We're not on it, we're outside Glasgow but have a Paisley rather than a Glasgow postcode.

Have seen my parents and my sister's house on it though. And my work (unfortunately), the one there must have been taken v early in the morning as the street outside is dead!

The cheeky feckers have somehow got into the courtyard of our flats and taken pictures of the rear of our apartments and our private garden. They'd had to have gone through a locked gate to get there. It's quite funny as the previous picture clearly shows a big sign saying 'private property, no trespassing' and the name of the security firm.

I've asked them to remove asap. I don't mind pictures of streets, but going onto someone's land is taking the piss a bit.

I'm not really getting all the hoo-ha tbh, hundreds of people I don't know walk past my house every day anyway, I don't see what difference it makes if they "virtually" walk past instead.

It's not like it's a live video feed where people can watch you getting home from work or whatever.

Google Maps thinks I live in the middle of an empty field ?

Our old house was on there, and then for some reason it reverted to a previous version that was also the middle of an empty field.

I predict problems with this.... It has some potentially very nasty uses, much moreso than the mapping/sat view.

Could you elaborate ONE? I'm probably being denser than a dense thing, but what harm exactly could one do with streetview?
