Grey &..?

Lu_Duth, 27 July, 2011 at 12:29 Posted on Planning 0 20

Hi ladies,

i thought i had it sorted in terms of colour scheme! I was having a light sage green, pale pink roses and the guys in all grey kilts! Just needed to decide on a bridesmaid dresses.

Now i have seen a Dessy dress that i love and in the 'tie dye' colouring you can only get in Pink. Blue or grey! Gutted! my BMs tried the dress on at the weekend and loved it, it was the pink one they had on, now im really not a pink fan and i dont want pink bridesmaids, not too sure about the blue either so i thought i would go for grey!

Now the problem, i cant have the boys in plain grey kilts now as i think it will look too bland, but that is ok there are plenty other kilt colours that we like.

What other colour would go with the dress? My wedding is in april so i dont want anything too dark, and i would like a spring colour scheme if possible.

i would post a pic of the dress but i cant copy it from the website for some reason. so hopefully a link will work, its dessy style 2831 in the grey/white option.

What colours are you now struggling with, sorry I'm a bit confused!

If you are going for the grey/white option on the BM dresses, is it the kilt colours you are struggling with or flower colours?

Excuse my dimness, I have flu so not on the ball today!!!

No sorry its me! i just re-read and im waffling a bit lol

I have always thought green, pink and grey was my colours from january. But now ive saw this dress i love it and i guess i just want some re-assurance with the colour, what other accent colour would go good with grey? or i could go back to the drawing board and find another nice one shoulder dress that comes in sage green!

i think we are sorted with the kilts, there is a black one that i like.

I think you mentioned you didnt like pink....but we are having pink and orange with grey suits. Yellow also looks good with grey.

Could you not stick with the original colour scheme but still get the bm dresses in the grey? i.e. you could have sage green and light pink flowers, with the grey and white bm dresses and have the groomsmen in either grey kilts with sage green waistcoats or have the kilts in a light green and grey colour with grey waistcoats? If you know what I mean?

I reckon you should stick with your original plan of green, pink and grey.

I don't think it will look bland as the dresses are so flowey and have the white in them, I think with ivory and pink flowers and greenery they will look lovely. Also with the men in grey, if they have ivory, pink and green touches (ties/waistcoats/buttonholes it will look great)

You could also change the sash on the dresses for another colour?

I like blue with grey, then you could have your bridesmaids in that dress in the bllue/white option?

Thank you so much ladies! you have all been great helps!

i went back to the shop yesterday afternoon, and i had a look at the colour swatches again.

Made up my mind! im going to go for the blue/white option with the men in plain grey kilts!

now anyone have any idea of the cost of Dessy dresses? I was originally going for Veromia dresses before i lost my job and with us only taking in one wage till i find another (we have 3 children between us too!), i went searching for cheaper options as veromia was going to be expensive for 2 adults, 1 junior and 2 flowergirls.

I was quoted, 255 per dress yesterday for the 2 adults and 200 for the junior, which will not be blue/white as they dont come in junior, it will just be a similar chiffon dress in cornflour blue. I have just decided i will get white flowergirl dresses from debenhams or where ever i see any i like as that will save me a lot of pennies!

is that about right for a Dessy? or should i shop around? bearing in mind there is only one dessy retailer near me! Smiley sad

Personally I think that sounds a lot. I've not bought my bm dresses yet but have had a brief look whilst I was wedding dress shopping and both the dessy and veromia ones I saw were no more than £200 max. I guess it varies on the style, are they quite complex?

Have you got a flash of them? x

    Hi pinky,

i dont have a flash as i cant save the pic to my laptop for some reason! but the link is... if you click on the blue and white square you will see it!

    /bridesmaid-dresses/dessy/

I had the impression dessy dresses were no more than 200 that is how i chose this one, i dont know if it is because of the multi-colour material or what! from the same shop the veromia ones i wanted were going to be 275 per adult 150 for the junior and 150 each for flowergirl!

i stay NE scotland so i dont know if that also makes a difference as we are classed as in the highlands?

I love grey & lilac! I'm doing a charcoal grey & ivory sweet buffet for one of my brides, its slowly coming together and although at first I was apprehensive about the grey it does look really elegant and classic, a good alternative to black and ivory themes in my opinion anyway! x

I would personally shop around a bit. Click on the find a retailer section on the dessy website and find a couple of retailers that are close, or at least as close as possible, phone them and ask for a quote. If they come out cheaper, go back to the store where you tried them on and ask if they will price match. We did this with my BM's Alfred Angelo dress and saved £30 on it.
