Has Anyone Else Not Got Any Pets?

Rizzo, 30 May, 2012 at 10:11 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 79

Surely I can't be the only one?

I do like animals, but could never be responsible for one.

? Me - we don't hav any pets.

I was quite bad at looking after my pets (rabbits, rats etc) as a kid so worry that I would still be bad now.

The only pets I would consider are cats as they are independent (but we're not allowed to install a cat flap in our rented house so that's not currently an option) or a dog as I think it would become part of the family but we don't have the time to look after it properly at the moment so wouldn't consider it.

    ?

We don't have any, although OH is desperatley broody for a dog!! We are in a 1 bed upstairs flat though and both out long hours every day so I don't feel it would be fair. On top of that money is tight and although I don't know about everything Im sure it would be a fair amount of costs..vets..pet insurance..food..bedding etc.

Never had pets growing up so I suppose I see it as a bigger deal to get one than he does, he insists it would be fine. Once we have our house we hope to get a nice friendly well behaved doggy!

Nope not got any pets. I would love a dog in the future when I've retired though. I really do love animals, however I hate getting their hair on my clothes. It wouldn't be fair for me to have a pet now as I leave home at 6am every day and never know what time I'll be back.

I'm one of those who has never not had a pet. My best friend has never had a pet.. I always tease her that that's why her immune system hates my cats.

... i realise the thread asked if we didn't have pets....and i clearly do, but not as many as i used to!! (I had 17 rabbits at one time)

I grew up with pets and can't imagine living without them. I think i really need a small holding... I've got 2 rabbits, 4 rats and a cat....and hopefully going to get another kitten some time soonish. H has to supervise me at the petshop now because the last time i went alone, i adopted a couple of dumbo rats....

I am currently experiencing the first pet drought for several years, although have only kept little furry hamsters and gerbils before.

I would love a dog but we work all day and only have a yard. Given a big enough garden, I'd have chickens and goats and so on.

I always had a cat growing up and i want one badly but im not allowed one in my rented flat. Oh wants a dog but it wouldnt be fair as neither of us are home during the day. When we buy we will be getting a cat and when we have kids will probably get a dog. SO broody for a cat!

I have always had pets. The only reason we don't have one now is that Mr C wants a dog but we can't have one in the flat and it wouldn't be fair yet.

We don't - would love a dog but we're both out of the house for a minimum of 11 hours a day so it would be unfair. So instead we pinch the ILs puppy whenever possible!

We don't have any. We didn't have any when growing up (except for a hamster when I was in my mid-teens) and H has never had one.

I love other people's pets and do think about having one, but firstly H doesn't like the idea at all (completely not an animal person) and in my heart of hearts I know I am too lazy!

I absolutly hate any animal of any kind.

My worst nightmare would be to have a pet.

We haven't either. I wouldn't mind a cat but OH can not stand them so no chance of that. Not too fussed about getting any other sort of animal either to be honest, never grew up with any either.

Nope, we havent either! Unless you include H's fish!!

Really not interested in animals whatsoever plus it wouldnt be fair on them as we are out from 6 in the morning until late.

Never been an "animal loving" family.

You'd be such a responsible pet owner! We're in an upstairs flat, but it's quite a big 2-bedroom, and we have a good size garden as well. Added the that I'm switching to half days at work on top of taking the first week entirely off, and getting help from my SIL2B and MIL2B to check in on her when I go back to work half days. As a temp, it's a good time for me as I still don't have a permanent full time job in my field. My job pays so little that it's not that big a sacrifice money-wise, and I really felt it was important to raise a puppy before we think about having a baby. This is also the first 6-month stretch we won't be travelling and can be home with the puppy.

I've been pet-less since 2002, when I moved away for university. I made due with my brothers' and sister's dogs, but it breaks my heart to be without one, as I grew up with dogs!

I don't. I have been told we can get a dog when we have somewhere big enough to put one. I keep asking for a hamster but they are on OH's list of pointless animals *sigh*

Get a rat! They're small and cute like Hamsters, but they're so much more fun!**

This. I am not allergic, or a massive neat freak (although I do hate pet hairs on my clothes), I am just not really a pet lover. I had pets as a kid but I was terrible at remembering to feed them and clean them out, my mum always used to end up doing it. I actually had a rabbit that had been dead for 3 months before I noticed as I very rarely went anywhere near its cage ! (I dont mean it was left in there, my mum knew it had died she just didnt bother to tell me !)

Now I am an adult I dont want the responsibility, the commitment, the cost or the smell in our house !

    I don't. Not a pet person.

I've had pets, at my sons request, but always got rid of them as he got bored, and I just didn't like them.

I can't think of one redeaming thing about a dog.

They smell, dribble, shed fur everywhere, follow you around and are noisy.

My girl doesn't smell, has a fragrant bath, has NEVER dribbled, granted she sheds White hair but is easily hoovered up, follows you as she loves spending time with you and the only time she EVER makes a noise is when she sees the bin men collecting bins, bizarrely. If amazing how much love they give you. She's clever, like a little person!

I can't wait for the day I can have a dog and rabbits!! It won't be for a long long time though, until I don't live in a rented flat, and have arrangements there who can take him out when I'm at work.

When looking at areas to buy a flat my mum said X rather than Y - because that's closer to me for when I need to do dog and rabbit sitting!!! Result - she know's I'll be all over it as soon as I get my own place!

When I was younger I had a pet duck, she totally rocked!

Obviously they help blind people, that goes without saying.

I usually rely on my close friends and family for compantionship and loyalty...
