Have you kept your dress a secret from your OH?

Chidders, 7 January, 2011 at 13:40 Posted on Planning 0 43

Hi,

Just been browsing gorgeous dress, not that i am quite at that stage yet, but i wondering have you discussed your choices with your OH as to style's he likes, or have you left to be a complete surprise? Both ideas appeal to me, i would like to be in a dress that i would konw he would like, but also would love to surprise him on the day.........

Mine is (I think) secret. Although as secret as things can be when you hold pics on a shared computer (albeit buried away in the most complicated file tree in the world). The only thing I have revealed is that it's not massive, in order to convince him that I could get into a sports car...*

*Edit - I am assuming he doesn't stalk me on wedding websites either, so wouldn't have seen flashes. ?

He knows Im going for a 'big' dress but thats about it...I dont think he'll really notice too much detail about it though it has a huge train so on the day I'll have to point it out to him so he doesnt step on it! lol

Mine is a secret, but only because I took it to my mums as soon as I got it, as I haven't got the room for it. If he asked about it, I'd have no problem with telling him.

ETA, I'm not actually too fussed if he really likes it or not. I've gone for what I like!

Mine is a secret, but OH has kind of guessed what it'll be like anyway. I used to do that awful thing when you flip through magazines and ask if he likes the dresses or not. Far too stressful so don't do it anymore though.

I have kept it a secret. I wasn't sure myself what style I wanted until I went to try some on so I didn't even look at any pictures beforehand. I just keep winding him up telling him the dress is maroon (because that's his football team's colours) but he actually has no idea.

Not booked but probably a Mustang, an old one.

It's tough - presumably we all like to show new "normal" dresses off as soon as we get them. He's the one person I share my most exciting things with and it's hard to keep my mouth shut. I think I accidentally told him something once but he either didn't hear or very sweetly pretended not to hear.

Do you know what your H2B will like?

I would know what he wouldn't like i think, as we have similar tastes fortunately. Looking at the posts, I think is a suprise is the way to go, though I may flick through mags and ask him just to get a vague idea of likes/dislikes. I would think we would agree. Very cool car x

Mines a secret apart from the fact that he knows its strapless and he knows its ballgown style cos thats what he wanted me to wear. He must be better at knowing what suits me though because all the dresses I like looked horrible on me but all the strapless ballgowns looked amazing. I hate it when he's right :p

(I think) mines a secret - I've had the pics up a couple of times on the computer and accidentally switched to them when I've been showing him something else so he may have caught a glimpse, although he maintains he hasn't :-) I'm finding it really hard not talking to him about it at all - Usually I rely on his opinion as to whether I look good when we go out...

I did play the guessing game with him though (before I chose the dress) just to see what style he could imagine me in. And he's pretty much spot on with what I ended up choosing! So I've stopped talking to him about it now, as I'm a rubbish liar so couldn't hide it if he got it right, and wouldn't want the upset if he said he didn't like something that my dress had! Also he has said that he wants it to be a surprise on the day ?

Well I hope so, but as it's been hanging in the spare room since October who knows?

Seriously though, I trust him implicitly and he doesn't want to see it until the day anyway. He does know that it's strapless, ivory, and has no train, but other than that he remains in the dark. I would love him to see it (especially as I'm having big wobbles and value his opinion) but he's adamant!

I had to discuss my dress with my OH as originally he wanted me to get a China knock off dress to save us some cash & when I fell for my dress it was considerably more money so it took a bit of negotiating for him to agree to cough up for it! He knows that it is a Maggie Sottero Edith but he hasn't seen any pics of it. All he knows is that it is strapless & has a pink embroidered flowers but he doesn't know any more detail than that.

Mine knows it's pink - it was his one request as pink is a colour I quite like (along with blue....purple etc) but that's all he knows.

The only people who have seen my dress is my mum and sisters. So it will be a surprise to everyone else. I asked MIL2B if she wanted to see it but she declined cos she wanted it to be a surprise!

However when my sisters are around we do sometimes accidentally let details about it slip by accident in general conversation. So technically he knows it is ivory, strapless and has buttons up the back but I don't thing he either has the memory to remember this or the imagination to put it into an image in his mind!!

My H2B knows my dress is ivory (in case we needed a colour scheme) and he knows which shop I got it from so some idea. But I have altered it somewhat so it's unique.

He knows it isn't a big dress and I have told him not to expect "cinderella". I don't want him to be disappointed.

Mine's a secret but he knows a few things about it e.g. its ivory and strapless. Things do come up in conversation when I'm talking to my BMs or mum etc and it just cant really be helped. I'm not stressing over it but I dont want him to see the actual dress until the day.

I asked him what he thought it would be like and he pretty much described my dress - he knows me too well. Although I try and put him off the scent by saying things like: when I pass a dress in bridal shop window I'll say: 'oh look there's my dress!' and he knows straight away I'm fibbing and things like, I'm not sure I'll fit down the isle with the size of my dress etc. Its fun keeping him guessing!

Its hanging up in the spare room now and he's not allowed in (although its covered up).

His mum and sister always ask what mine's like but I dont want them to know as they will tell EVERYONE and his dog. I keep telling them conflicting things which is quite funny to see their faces trying to work it out. ?

I kept mine completely secret! I also tried to confuse him by getting other people in the family to say it was different colours and saved images on my laptop of another dress. After the wedding he told me he expected to see me in a blue dress!!

Flowmojo - Having it made - wedding dresses in Kuwait (where am living at moment) are massive frilly white things and just so not me. I went into a shop where they had an in house designer and he did me a lovely pic - lets see if I can find it......

The top bit and part of the skirt is this fab Indian fabric I found - it's a darkish pink with gold and turquoise bits and then the rest is a soft pink silk and chiffon. Hopefully will be picking it up soon so will flash a proper pic.

Nope, my h2b went with me to choose mine. I've been married before, and i'm not having bridesmaids this time. It's hard for my mam as we lost my dad 2 years ago, so h2b went with me. The woman in the shop showed us a few different dresses she thought would look nice and h2b agreed on the one i liked the best, we chose the colour together Smiley smile

he will also be going with me for my fittings too xx

Mine is a complete surprise and he has been adamant that it stays that way. If I start talking dresses he starts to get edgy and has walked out the room at one point although I would never give the game away. I am having to have my dress stored and picked up by his parents as he wont even let us collect it and transfer it to the venue as he may get an idea about what it is like.

After I had found my dress he said he knew what it was like (tea length, plain, ivory) which was what I would have chosen for myself but he has always said he would like a bride in a full length dress and so I wanted to surprise him and prove that I do listen to what he wants sometimes!! lol
