Have you spotted any bargains? If so, flash them here! (I'll start with a bargain birdcage!)

Chickster, 6 September, 2012 at 07:18 Posted on Planning 0 27

I was wondering around Dunhelms recently and came across a bargain birdcage in their candle section which I thought would make great table centres! They are quite big (25cm diameter x 55cm high) and are only £8.99! The other birdcages I've seen have come in at around £20 - £25 so this is a real bargain. Also, the top dome of the cage opens up so you could also use it as a postbox for wedding cards.

This got me thinking that we should start a 'bargains' thread! Have you found any bargains on your wedding planning travels?? If so, flash them here!

Bargain birdcage £8.99 from Dunhelms (link below). In the shop, they also did them with roses instead of butterflies but I can't find them online.

LOVE the birdcages, well done! Might have to take a trip to Dunhelm this weekend.

I'm doing lots of DIY stuff so have picked up lots of bargains from charity shops and car boot sales.

I don't have a link but beautiful wooden lanterns in Sainsburys are 1.50 for small ones and approx 3.00 for large. They have variety of colours.

I started picking them up then realised I am married now so don't need them ?

Hi Ali-G what were your dresses like? I am looking for navy bridesmaid dresses and am on a tight budget. Having two adult bridesmaids and an eleven year old. Thinking may have the 11 year old in an ivory dress with a navy sash ribbon or similar. Like the price of your bargain dresses!

I just bought a bird cage for my cards, £19 from Ebay. It will match my frame for the table plan perfectly:

Same kind of thing on Confetti costs way more.

You might find your local Dunelm doesn't have them...how many do you need?

I needed 10 and couldn't find them anywhere! Had to search up and down the country (online allows you to do this and reserve them!), and ask family to go and get some! Finally found them in Stevenage and was lucky as my step dad was going there the next day for work!

Try searching online first, as it saves you a wasted journey to your local store Smiley smile I went and mine only had 1! x

My ivory wedding favor boxes were 12 for 99p from Ebay.

My BM dresses were £69 but got them for £49 in the sale as the shop had a special one day sale.

100 Love hearts for £4.99 for the favours.

My most mega bargain was my veil from Ebay £3 (inc P&P) from China. I ordered it thinking if i dont like it its only £3 but it was exactly what i wanted and looked like the one in the shpo that was £100.

Found a few good bargains on the For Sale part of this site, bought 30 glass t-light holders for £10, Ivory candles holders with chandelier gems for £5 each, 1,000 silver choco sweets (from Confetti) for £8, then sold all my wedding stuff on here for near on what i paid for.

My wedding topper was £35-£40 in the shops but bought it for £25 off Ebay. Ebay was my friend for wedding planning.

For outdoor weddings, or those wanting outdoor lighting, we spotted something similar to these in "The Works" at 99p each! (The full length ones)

Complete with citronella candles to keep the mozzies away.

We cleared them out in that store and managed to land an additional 10% off at the till by giving our email address- no other information required!

I think we left with 19 in the end and it came to something silly like £14. I think she must have counted them wrong, because 19 lots of 99p - 10-% isnt £14 something!

Also found some beautiful wooden "boxes" in a poundshop (poundland I believe) They're supposed to be for incense and come complete with it, in 2 "flavours"

But we're going to stick some battery operated tealights in them and hang them in the trees to decorate low hanging branches

    Again, these were 99p.

Worst photo ever, they're lovely in real life!

Like this! (We're having an outdoorsy wedding next to a lake)

    Hi Ladies.

I bought from morrisons yesterday a large cream milk jug for £3. It is the metal version and is similar to this

its about 30cm tall so quite large. they had smaller ones for £1.50. People have mentioned them for centre pieces. I have it in my living room with flowers in and it looks lovely.

    Hope it helps somebody xx

Great ideas girls! I also brought the square birdcage from dunelm, it is such a bargain! Some money saving things that im doing... I've brought some material and am sewing my own bunting. Im also saving up nice shaped jars to wrap raffia around for table decorations with tea lights. We are making truffles for favours as they are super cheap and easy to make. The shop "the range" had some v cute vintage cream heart memo holders, great for table plan and only £5! Oh and I'm frequently visiting charity shops for nice jars for my sweetie table :-)
