Healthcare workers/Drs/people who are on their feet all day (shoes)

vicbic, 17 September, 2008 at 16:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

What do you wear on your feet all day?

I need to find some ultra comfortable shoes that are smart enough for placements in a hospital. I expect I'm going to be on my feet a lot of the day, and I want to stay as pain-free as possible ?

My preference is for black flat shoes, perhaps with some sort of cushioning. I will wear black trousers and a tunic for placements, trendy chick that I am...

Do you have any wonderful websites with flattering shoes for me to browse?

Thank you.?

    Try clarks, or M&S footgloves.

My mum loved her Eccos too, they aren't cheap but apparently worth every penny.

I used to wear Docs when I worked on the wards, and wear Clarks currently for scanning.

Docs take a bit of wearing in, but they last forever, and they look professional.

    Thank you all.

I'm off to look at all your suggestions.

My sister, who also works on her feet, swears by Hotter shoes. She said it was like walking on air, but she can't remember which ones she got! ?

I'm a junior Dr and currrently wearing a pair of Clark's. I survived my first 6 months in cheaper shoes (shoefayre etc) but then went to Clarks and would never go back.

Comfy shoes - the best investment ever if you work in a hospital environment.

I do not understand how any of my colleagues can live in heels for a 12 hour + day. At the very least I reckon it makes running to arrests pretty dangerous (and slow).

Iv got a pair of clarks black lace ups which are so comfortable.

a few girls at work have MBTs which have a massive sole but they are supposedly very good for your back and improve your posture. the girls swear by them.

millets are doing them for £69.99

There are loads of websites that sell clogs aimed at health care workers, steptoes, world of clogs etc even crocs do a professional version, I have some Dms though. I have tried M and S and Clarks etc but I am really heavy on shoes and they don't last me longer than 6 weeks. All the Dms I've bought have lasted me years.

I work in events and can quite easily be on my feet for 12+ hours a day. Without doubt the most comfortable shoes are a pair I have from clarks that have a rubber wedge sole. You don't walk you "boing" , they are fabulous but very, very ugly!

All throught my placements I wore a variety of sketchers. I have slightly wider feet and found them so comfy and not restricting, yuo should be able to get a nice black pair.

When I qualified I worked as an ITU nurse for 3 years, wore by sketcher for 1st year then crocs for the last 2.

Loved my crocs, but i guess you might not be allowed them. We wore turquoise scrubs and I had both fuschia and turquoise crocs.

Another vote for Clarks - just bought two pairs. I'm a teacher and fed up of my feet killing after a day in £12 jobs form New Look.

They last ages and once they're a bit worn in are very comfy.

Hello all! More fab ideas. Thank you!

I am going to study Diagnostic Radiography. From what I have seen of Radiographers they spend a lot of their day on their feet, hence the good shoes questions. ?

I happened to be at the hospital today and I was eyeing up footwear. Everyone seemed to be wearing crocs. I really really don't like Crocs so I shan't get them, even if they are more comfortable than a bed. ?

My scholl's are soo comfy, it doesn't even feel like I have any shoes on!

    http://www.schollshoeshop.co.uk/product_info.php?product_id=412

They aren't the fashion shoe of the year, but I don't care - comfort is way to important!

Just a quick reply before work, thanks for this thread. I'm also on my feet all day working in tihs type of environment, at the moment I just wear these white, slip on, rubber type shoes that I was given with uniform, however I have noticed others wear crocs, also not a huge fan so will have a look at the links in this thread.
