Hello .... new member :)

Hi ... My name is Emma and although I've been engaged to Nathaniel for two and a half years we've only just got round to planning a wedding.

We're both very shy so are having a tiny wedding .... 6 adult guests, 2 flowergirls and one junior bridesmaid to the ceremony and only 26 for the evening recception ... has anyone on here planned a wedding this small? We're finding it really difficult to find a venue willing to acccomodate succh a small group at reasonable cost and any help or ideas will be appreciated. We've decided that we want our colours to be ivory and sage green with hints of pink and our theme to be butterflies Smiley smile

So far I have bought my flowers ... which I fell in love with and had to have ... and only £45 for my bouquet, 2 bridesmaid bouquets (one of these I'm going to take apart and make button holes), 2 wrist corsages (these I'm going to make into wands for my flowergirls) and a grooms buttonhole Smiley smile

My bouquet Smiley smile

I've also had a local cake maker offer to make my wedding cake for £55 if I supply the butterfly decoration I want on the top ... after going to a wedding fayre on Sunday and being quoted £250 for a two tier cake I can't believe how little she is charging. I've seen some of her cakes and they look fantastic Smiley smile

The cake I'm having made Smiley smile But with ivory icing and sage green decorations

We're hoping to get married for as little cost as possible, so I'm making a lot myself ... invitations, favour boxes and hoping to get my dress made in China after reading some of the messages on here with people be so happy with them, and if I can save £450 on the dress I like it will be worth it Smiley smile Are any of you working with a small budget and can offer any advice?

Looking forward to getting to know you all

Emma x

    Hi Emma, welcome to Hitched.

Just wanted to say hello really. Our budget is around £5k and so far so good. We've saved money by doing our stationary ourselves. I also bought an ex-sample dress from a bridal shop, which saved a hell of a lot of money from the original one I was going to buy. I haven't got much advice really on saving money other than don't rush in to anything, shop around and get plenty of quotes.

    Good Luck and Happy Planning.

    Anna ?

Hi and welcome! My wedding itself will be tiny - just the 2 of us and a priest! We'll have about 70 people for a reception a month afterwards, but the wedding itself will be small, for similar reasons - I've been married before and I can't face friends/family watching me say vows I said 10yrs ago.

Where are you, by the way? I'm still after a good value cake - we're veering towards M&S at the mo, but yours looks lovely!

My tip for budgeting is ... Ebay! I've got quite a bit from there to keep costs down. Good luck with your planning, there are lots of very helpful ladies around here x

    Hi Emma, welcome!

I got your message via my e-mail but cant work out how to return it!! Sorry, I wasnt ignoring you, just being thick!

yep, we're doing a v small do- 20 guests coming away with us to the Isle of Scilly off the Cornish coast for a few days.

I'm actually loving the organisation, it seems to be so much less stressful than a big wedding (although, I might find the stress builds up!) I've made and sent all (12!) of our invites with 'infopack' things.

Our day isnt really like a typical wedding. We're getting married late morning, then having photos on the beach (fingers crossed for the weather) then back to our rented cottage for a buffet lunch/ garden party. In the evening we're having dinner in our lovely favourite restaurant all round 1 table. We cant afford to rent out the whle restaurant so we're just having a screened off section (I know some people would baulk at this for their wedding!). It should just be a lovely relaxed day where everyone has fun and we dont end up this huge focus of attention!

    Welcome to Hitched Emma!

We are having a small wedding too, just 30 of us in Greece. Whereabouts are you planning to get married?

I love your bouquet by the way, where did you get it?

We are having a smallish wedding (60 day and night) with a limited budget. So far I havn't paid full price for anything - don't be afraid to ask for discounts and shop around - look for smaller new businesses looking for the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do, also call in favours from friends - one of mine is very kindly doing the design for our invites. I have bought a sample gown which is beautiful. also my Grandad used to have a saying "it's not what you want, it's what you can do without!" Do you really need favours at £3 per head, can you cut back on the drinks or flowers. People are there to celebrate with you not judge the place settings.
