If you're bunged up, then head over a steamy bowl with some olbas oil drops in. Other than that, lots of water and good food. Try and get out and about a little bit too if you can.

Drinks lots of fluids but no alcohol or caffeinated rinks. Hot drinks are best. Eat soup.

Take a nasal spray for a blocked nose (Sudafed is fabulous).

Have lots of baths (the steam will, um, loosen you up). Or lie with a hot flannel on your face.

Spend lots of time lying down!

THIS. And sleep with Olbas oil drops on a tissue near your pillow. It will help keep you decongested during the night.

Superdrug have something called "happy nose" o something similar. It protects your nose against all the blowing and stops it going red.

By Friday you should be fine anyway as most colds are at their worst for the first couple of days.

Oh my goodness - have a great day on Friday xx

Oh yeah, you'll need something to hold off the dreaded flakiness associated with too much blowing. I smother loads of Vaseline or similar around my nose at night time.

That stuff broke me. It stung a lot and made my nose even redder. May have just been me having a reaction to it though.

OP- I agree with the Olbas oil and rest. Lucozade always perks me up a bit when I'm ill too.

If you have a sore nose use Aqueas Cream, not vaseline. It stings but it doesn't suffocate the skin like Vaseline and your nose will be back to normal within 1 & 1/2 days

I find Bio Oil really good on a chapped nose. And it doesn't sting either.

    Oh no!

Ok, I've worked in a health shop and can highly recommend taking echinacea, preferrably in liquid form. A. Vogel Echinaforce is a really good one. Take the max dosage. You should be able to get it from your local health store and some supermarkets stock it.

Coldenza tablets (from local health store) are also very good.

Make sure your multivit contains zinc and this works well with vit c to fight colds.

high strength manuka honey. Take straight from the spoon or boil water up, let it cool a little and add to that. Don't add lemon.

Lots of rest (if poss!) and liquids.

I also find hot curries help :-)

Hope you feel better soon x

Ginger works wonders on a cold. I do the following:

Chunk of ginger with slice of lemon infused in boiling water - don't add sugar

Chicken noodle soup with ginger, I find this recipe really good and I add a few leaves of pak choi for good measure

Stir fries with ginger and loads of veg will be good for you as well

I also get into the sauna, I have no idea how true it is that it's good for you but it always makes me feel a hell of a lot better!

Other than that, get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water to flush it all out. Hope it all clears up before Friday! xxx

I'm so sorry to hear this! Another +1 for Aqueous cream (i would honestly just apply it all day long, not just at night) and manuka honey too. And fresh air in small doses. And just rest up if you can.

Can I recommend stocking up on LOTS of Kleenex Balsam tissues? I seem to permanently have a cold - I'm battling one right now - and I know my tissues as a result...these ones really are soft on your nose and mean you're way less likely to get a sore, red nose.

And olbas oil and steam is always a winner to clear your head. Paracetamol or Lemsip to reduce your symptoms!

    Good luck! x
