Hey Guys - Allow me to introduce myself:)

LeicesterBride, 2 November, 2011 at 10:04 Posted on Planning 0 21

I'm Kate, I live in Leicester.

My chap and I are starting plan our wedding, although we haven't set a date yet. We're thinking it'll be next September, or if we don't pull our finger out in time, perhaps Spring 2013.

We're thinking about a registry office ceremony with immediate family followed by a meal, and that may or may not be the same day as the celebration. We're planning on using the local village hall and having it dressed in a chic and fabulous way. (we'll need recommendations for venue dressers who supply drapes and lighting etc and who are up for being creative/different!)

We're after live music too, so I'll no doubt be asking for recommendaitons for an ace yet inexpensive band, too! The one we've heard before nad loved charges nearly £2000 for 2 x 1hr sets. Seems a bit steep to me...

And we're yet to decide on catering, although picnic hampers on each table is one idea we're keen on, or maybe a BBQ (we're planning on a mid-late afternoon start so that we're feeding people once to save some money!)

There'll be about 12-150 guests, including loads of children so we're after a fun-filled family affair with a chic and untterly fabulous feel.

Er, and that's about it - hope I can help and be helped on here Smiley smile

    Hi Kate

    Your ideas seems great .

Am in the same area as you so would be happy to recommend, we are having a band too ' the kicks' from anstey , they are not too pricey either. They have played a few sets @ the white horse in qourn ( if you know it ?) they are really good, well me and h2b like them anyway.

I know, i love the picnic hamper idea too, although we pinched the idea from the wedding of a friend of my chap so all of his friends will have seenit done before. Not sure that matters...

In the hamper they had loads of stuff, including a joint of ham and a chicken and each table carved their own. I was planning on making homemade shutneys etc to accompany, too.Smiley smile

Hi Kate, welcome to Hitched ?

I'm a Leicester girl too (although I officially live in Notts now). Next September is still do-able as long as you can book your venue and registrar. Are you looking at it being a Saturday?

Bands are expensive but I have found cheaper ones. I haven't got my files with me but I could let you have some names later if you like? There isn't a lot I don't know about weddings around here. This is my second wedding and I loooovvveee the planning so much that I'm starting up a wedding co-ordination/planning business. Not trying to advertise ? just letting you know that I've got loads of info so just yell if you want to know anything.

    Hi Purple Pixie,

Great to know there's another bride in the area - and a bonus you're hot on planning!

I'd really really appreciate band recommendations, plus caterers that will come to a village hall (thinking either BBQ or picnic hamper...depends on quotes I think).

Also, recommendations for wedding dress shops - Was thinking about heading to Bradgate Brides first as they stock Enzoani and Benjamin Roberts which I love, although I like a couple of Ian stuart gowns aswell so need a stockist for his stuff (think there's on in Solihull and I'm over there quite a bit anyway!). I'm after something sexy to show off a size 12 hourglass shape (although have to cage my mahoosive knockers!) ?

Oh yes, and venue dressers to. We're quite specific about what we're after so looking for someone creative and flexible.

Not asking for much, am I?!?

    Thank you!?

    Kate xx

I'll have a look at my folders later but, from personal experience, I won't be recommending Bradgate Brides. I've been to a LOT of wedding dress shops and that was the only place that made me feel like a second class citizen. They were rude to both me and my guests (my mum and my friend). All three of us are the most polite, lip-biting people, so to be spoken to the way we were was incredibly shocking. It's a real shame because they've got a lovely big shop with loads of gowns.

Some places that I've had really good experiences - Blush (Castle Donington), Destiny Bridal (Clarendon Park Rd, Leicester), Francesca (Leicester), Dream Wedding Dress (Nottingham), Tiffany Jordan (Derby) and Dressing Rooms (Draycott, Derbyshire). I'm sure there were more but these come back to mind.

    Hi Kate

I'm also from around the Leicestershire area!

I know Purple Pixie didn't have a nice experience from Bradgate Brides, I bought my dress from there and the ladies that I have dealt with were really nice, friendly and accomodating and I have been in that shop so many times recently, especially as when I had ordered it I just wanted to keep going back to try the sample on again! Its unfortunate that others have not had an experience like I have but as Purple Pixie said, there are quite a range of good shops out there. Why not experience them all! My friend bought her dress from Francesca and looking back wishes she hadn't as she had nothing but problems with them. I guess its everyones personal experiences.

Good Luck with your planning, we're all here if you need help!

I was a leics bride. We had a band called The Mokats who were fantastic. They are local to leics and play in Quorn and the surounding villages. I thought they were well priced for what they did and I would definately recommend them. If you want any other recs shout as we used a lot of local companies.
