Honeymoon, where did/are you going?

mummymrs2b, 7 November, 2012 at 23:24 Posted on Planning 0 20

I need some ideas of where to look! I've had a nosy at the sensatori hotels but now stuck again. Where did you go? Oh wasn't keen on flying more than 5 hours really but we wanted something a bit special, seen as its the honeymoon and only week we will be away from our kids. Mexico sticks out for me too although that's not 5 hours although oh isn't too bothered. Help!

When will you be going as that might rule out a few places if its rainy or hurricane season for example?

Have you considered somewhere like Dubai or Morocco that's around the flying time your OH wants.

We're honeymoon-ing in mid-April next year. What we know is that we're flying Copenhagen --> Bangkok for our first flight; our last flight is Manila --> London (and then back here to CPH a few days after that). Haven't sorted the in-between bits out yet. We'll miss the start of rainy season by a month.

In terms of shorter flying times, Morocco is a good call by Funky there. Or how about Egypt? How about places slightly closer such as the South of France or a place such as Sardinia/Corsica?

You may have done this already but if you check out www.skyscanner.com and click on 'map' where it says 'To', you'll be able to get some inspiration and might be able to gauge flight times.

EDIT: I've just read that you're going for one week too ... in which case I think you'd need to take the time difference into consideration as it'll eat into your holiday time, not to mention when you get to a place that's further out you might be too knackered to appreciate it on the first day. Sorry, I'm not trying to put a dampener on anything but I thought would be worth mentioning. ?

We're going to Riviera Maya next april for 2 weeks.

I vote Mexico! It's worth the flight time.

That's what I'm thinking, I'd love to go slightly further but can only go for a week so don't want to spend a lot of it traveling!

With only a week and a limit on flight time, have you thought about somewhere really special closer to home (than Mexico, at least)? We just returned from a gorgeous hotel in Tenerife, absolutely perfect for a honeymoon. It was called La Plantacion del Sur and we had a private garden, a hot tub with a sea view, a butler, a four poster bed etc. The pool was beautiful, quiet, with wine brought to you on your Balinese daybed.

We are going to Singapore for 4 nights for the Grand Prix next September, and then onto Bali for an all inclusive 10 night luxury holiday..or at least that is the plan, hopefully getting a deposit put down tonight!!!

Flight time is around 13 hours to Singapore and then another 2 to Bali so probably not something you would consider. It is a very expensive honeymoon, which, if it wasnt for the Grand Prix we wouldnt be doing and would probably do something like Mexico (I looked at Rivera Maya and it did look amazing) which is closer and miles cheaper. However, that is still a bit far for you.

I actually considered some of the Greek Islands or Cape Verde at one point as you can get more for your money. A colleague of mine went to Boa Vista in Cape Verde and he said it was absolutely amazing, all inclusive, good value for money and excellent staff. You will just need to check the weather as it can be "rainy season" as I think it is in September..

We haven't booked anything yet as work makes it very difficult for us to book time off, so may have to delay it until a few months after the wedding. Imagine it will be november time. Hopefully somewhere hot and luxurious like the Maldives! If you're thinking closer to home, how about Italy? Some lovely places there xx

We went to Singapore/Bali/Malaysia. It was strongly recommended to us by Kuoni that all-inclusive in Bali is a waste of money, because eating and drinking there is dirt dirt cheap. Glad we didn't bother in the end.

City break in Prague, followed by a river cruise on the Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest in late June/early July.

We are going to Jamaica. It's about a 10 hr flight i think. We are going for a week but the flight times are such that we will be away for 8 nights, 9 if we stay in a hotel the night before. We too have children who we are leaving with family. I have an older child from a previous relationship so H2B and I have never had longer than 2 nights alone without the children. We have also never been abroad (except Germany where he was based in the army) together so it is very exciting. We are staying at Sandals which to those who don't know is adult only and fully inclusive. I felt as I wasn't taking my children I didn't want to be surrounded by families as it would make me miss mine even more. I am very excited.

We're off to Georgetown in the Cayman Islands. One of my old high school friends lives there and has offered to see if she can get us a special offer in a Hotel somewhere.

If she can't, then we MIGHT look elsewhere, though I doubt it.

We'll go during October half term (2 months after the wedding) so my parents can have our son for the week. We'll be asking guests for contributions towards our honeymoon instead of gifts so it really depends on how much we get as to where we go as we don't have a budget for a honeymoon ourselves. We don't expect big gifts / donations so we'll just see how it goes.

OH wants to go to New Orleans but I think he's being overly optimistic.

Failing that I work in the travel industry and sometimes we have a surplus of flights to Cuba so I'm hoping there might be a couple spare in October 2013!

I said about adults only for that same reason Jenna, if I see kids everyday it may upset me more than I'm going to be! I'm never away from my boys. Me & oh only got 1 week abroad before the boys (& will be the last for a long time!) so will be nice for us.

Riviera Maya is one of my favourite places on earth have been three times now, yes it's a long flight but would still be magical if only for a week.

I'm used to long flights and short stays (being cain crew) so I think a week is still a lot of time to relax and have sunshine!! I've always been away on holiday to dominican rep for one week and had a great time.

Going west is great as you get the jet lag when you get home - you'll just be getting up at the crack of dawn each day on holiday which means you wont waste your days. Then snooze by the pool all day and dont stay up too late Smiley winking

let us know where you decide!! Smiley smile

We went to Mauritius. Four Seasons at Anahita. Lovely place once you're there but the 12 hour flight is a killer.
