Hope you don't mind me asking, but how much are you spending on your honeymoon?

Chedi, 8 November, 2012 at 20:13 Posted on Planning 0 26

I'm just wondering as everyone seems to be posting really gorgeous honeymoon ideas but to me they look so expensive.

We've spent about £250 on 4 nights on the Isle of Wight, a self catering cottage that allows our dog, straight after the wedding. We're then budgetting £1000 maximum for the 2 of us for up to 10 days somewhere at the start of June - so really thats about £500pp - and that is feeling like such a tiny budget looking at some holiday sites.

What do you think I should expect for that sort of budget in June?

We are spending 6K because to get what we both want comes at a price.

If you arent fussed about where you go then I should think £500 each should be fine although maybe for a week as opposed to 10 days. Does that include spending money?

Nope, just the actual holiday so accomodation and flights. We've got two weeks off, and are only busy on the final weekend, so day wise we're not too fussed to be honest, it just cant be longer than 10days.

I've looking into hotels and self catering, but both seem to be pricing about the same amount ?

We can't afford to go on honeymoon straight away, but we're planning to go the May after. We'll be spending about £1,500 for both of us, half board, Tenerife. We went this year and loved it, so decided that would be a good honeymoon option.

    Hmmm..

A few months ago I was looking at Fuerteventura for a week for my hen do next May (I have family there and spent a lot of time there but working full time havent managed to get back in years!!) Ok so it isnt the Maldives but you could certainly do a lot worse. I think I was looking at spending £350 self catering for a week.

It has lovely white beaches, a crazy relaxed atmosphere and isnt full of teenagers...temperature wise its pretty decent, certainly warm enough for most normal people to sunbathe and has quite a strong wind which would keep you cool (I find it a bit too windy but I prefer my temperatures to be baking all the time, I could get cold in an oven!)

Hi, have you looked at Turkey? I would definately recommend Montana Pine Resort in Olu Deniz. It is beautiful and relaxed with no kids running around. We stayed there last year half board for £505 each for a week. The food was good and there is a free shuttle bus down to Olu Deniz where you can sit on beanbags on the beach at night and have waiters bring you cocktails, it was a really romantic holiday.

£9000. Not including wedding expenses and hotel we got married at. But by marrying abroad, with no guests, we could afford it.

£500 per person should be plenty for a nice sunshine break. We went to Marrakech in June this year, which was gorgeous. I booked the flights early with Easyjet for about £100 each and found a 5* (more like 3/4* but still lovely) All Inclusive hotel for less than £300 each. We spent 4 nights there and a final night in a Riad in the centre of Marrakech, which was about £50. It was definitely up there with my favourite holidays and really good value.

If you do go down this route, make sure you book the flights early. The earlier you book the cheaper they'll be.

We're spending £2900 for 2 weeks all inclusive Mexico. This is a lot of money to us but we wanted something really special.

If you look around you'll find a lovely holiday for your budget. We love Gran Canaria, beautiful island and lots of beautiful hotels. I'm sure you'd find something lovely there withim your budget.

Ours is £3500 for hotel and flights to Florida but we need to get Park tickets etc ontop of that. We are very lucky though that OH's dad and nan and grandad have paid for this for us.

I've had lots of nice holidays around that time for around £1000. The Canaries have some beautiful places, Greece is usually a good place too, I love it there.

We're spending £4.5k on honeymoon for the two of us through Viking River Cruises, which includes flights, a 3 night stay in Prague at the Hilton Prague (5*, voted best hotel in Czech Republic), transfer to Nuremberg to board the boat, and 7 nights cuising on the Danube to Budapest. It includes all food (and all you can drink!), excursions in every city we go to: Prague, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Passau, Melk, Vienna, and Budapest!

    I am SO FREAKING EXCITED!

The basic honeymoon was £6.3k, with another £2.5k on top for spends. We received a gift towards it though - not sure we would have spent that much out of our own pockets. I was looking at Italy/America/Morocco before that.

£500pp is defintely do-able for june - as that time of year you don't have too go far to get sunshine.

You've got spain (including all the balearics and canaries), greece, turkey, cyrpus, egypt, morocco, tunisia....

Deifnitely book online as it's always cheaper than the shops. Are you looking at self-catering, half board, all inlcusive?? If the £1000 is the budget for the honeymoon are you including what you'd spend out there (if meals/drinks are included or not...) sometimes paying a bit more upfront for the holiday will save you lots when you're there....

We havent booked ours yet, but amazingly 2 weeks after getting engaged I won £5000 holiday vouchers in a work incentive (i work for an airline) just for selling the most coca-cola out of all the people in the company! Won them in March and still doesn't feel real. People keep telling us we could go on lots of holidays with that but I think the naughty side of us both wants to spend it all on our honeymoon and just do it! No idea where yet but we'll be looking at late may 2014.

Let us know where you decide!!! xxx

We have ended up spending £8k, but like Nikki my OH won £5k of holiday vouchers through work in September so we have gone all out and are doing a 2 week US west coast road trip then 4 nights in the Bahamas.

We had planned on spending £3k on a trip to florida before we won the vouchers.

You can get a lot of good holidays for £1k depending on what you want, we did sensatori tennerife for that this year, egypt has some good deals and spain. I dont think it really matters where you go as long as you get to enjoy the first 2 weeks of married life alone with your OH to recover from all the wedding excitement/ stress.

I've just spent £4k on ours (eek) but for us it's a trip of a lifetime that we will never get to do again. I do think its far too much money to spend on a holiday, but hey, you only live once, and I'm usually so sensible (read boring) with my money so i wanted to splash out.

Ours was 7.5k for 11 nights at Sandals St Lucia in a suite with a private butler. To me this is a ridiculous amount of money for a holiday but we are extremely lucky in that FMIL has paid as a wedding gift and she recommended somewhere like this and so I wasnt going to say no!

We went to a small All Inclusive resort in Cuba last year for 650 each for 14 nights which was gorgeous, the best holiday I have had so far. If you search you will find some good bargains x
