I also came out at Established Middle Class which makes me think it's bollocks.

I reckon I am more like Technical Middle Class.

I came out as Elite initially, but I think I ticked Opera by mistake the first time so I went back and made sure I didn't select it and came out as Established Middle Class, I was happy with that ha ha !!

I am one of those as well. I think the only thing that stopped me from being the lowest of the low is because I go to Chatsworth House for a wander around the gardens.

Established middle class for me also. I don't get how the people you know socially has any impact on your class level!

It's an assessment of your peer group. Do you go a rock pub and drink with cleaners or do you go to the opera with accountants?

The boundary definitions between "class" and snobbery" are small....

I ticked almost every category on the list. H is a solicitor, who used to manage a football team in his spare time. There was an electrician on the team but the chairman of the team was an accountant. We therefore know both socially.

I am a solicitor and I'd socialise with my secretary. Another secretary in my office is also a part time cleaner. I'd go for a drink with both of them.

Apparently, this makes you "less classy", although I'm sure we'd all agree that it simply makes you "less snobby". It's all nonsense Smiley smile

I too am established middle class but my score was bumped by the people I know socially. All the ones with good jobs I know through OH and his family.

    Clearly I married up.

    Established Middle Class

This is the most gregarious and the second wealthiest of all the class groups. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

    • Enjoy a diverse range of cultural activities (not really?!)
    • Went to university (nope)
    • Are comfortably off, secure and established (I wouldn't say comfortable!!!)

Elite here too. Hubby and I did it and got same answer. Even though we rent, AND I listen to hip hop (he didn't put that on his survey). I think it's because we have a high income and savings?

I suspect that if I had done this 30 years ago (when I was the age many of you are now) the answer would be very different.

I am technical middle class which is where I guessed I would be. I suspect it is because I married up and am in a 'profession' though most of my peers are of varying degress of manual labour/shop work etc.

Better let H get that cleaner now it has been proven I am middle class ?

Haha, exactly what Arquad said for H and I! Although we are in the process of buying, so apparently once we're homeowners we'll be New Affluent Workers.

I dread to show this to H, he is always insisting he's working class because he's a socialist and he wants to be, when really he's about as middle class as they come. Obviously going to museums, the theatre and listening to jazz just isn't enough anymore...
