how did you decide on hair?

mrs a to be, 31 August, 2011 at 15:20 Posted on Planning 0 11

i don't really feel comfortable when my hair is tied back (maybe because its usually when my hairs greasy and im going to work it gets shoved up) but everyone thats seen me in my dress thinks that the dress looks better with my hair up. i only wear my hair down straight, maybe having it curled for sepcial occassion. don't do anything else with it. Ive never had my hair put up properly so wondering if this may change my mind but i can't decide what i like or what would look good!! How did you all decide?

I struggled, I knew I wanted it up as I felt it was a better look with my dress and made me look more elegant and I only mess with my hair when it is down but I didn't want it to be scraped back off my face. I had 2 trials and the first one he said my hair wasn't long enough for most of the styles I liked even though I had been growing it ☹️ so he put a french pleat/chignon (sp) in it and it looked nice but really NOT the look I was going for. I felt really deflated for a while after that but then got some real hair clip in extensions for the day and had another trial, this time my hair looked too big or so I thought but I went with it and it worked really well with the style of my dress. I think it does depend on the style of your dress and if your hair suits you down, maybe you could wear it down with curls in and a special tiara or have a trial with it up and it will look completely different from when you have it tied back for work. Keep in mind your head accessories, I wanted a side style at one point but had a tiara and veil which sit in the middle of my head so would have looked silly, but a side tiara would like nice with a side bun. HTH ?

Take a picture of your dress to your hairdresser. They should be able to advise on what would suit the dress and you.

I was unsure about my hair until last month, I was a bridesmaid at my friends wedding and there was a hairdresser for us to style our hair. NO-one really knew what they wanted so her sister bought a hair magazine - we all managed to find a different style that we all liked!!

I would also suggest going to your hairdressers and getting them to try some styles.

I've been growing my hair because i know i want it half up half down. I plan to have it in soft curls but pulled up and boofed up a bit for my Tiara and veil.

I've got my trails next week so i'll have a better idea of what i want by then.

    Hello Mrs A to B.

I always knew that I was going to have an up-do. I had long hair for a long time before my wedding and I was always doing different things with it so up or down I knew it would look good. My main concern was the weather! If there is just a little bit of moisture, my hair will go fluffy so an up-do it was!

It's got to be a decision based not only on what looks good with your dress, but also what feels right on you. Have some trials to see what looks right and feels right on you. An elaborate up-do is great for some people but if it makes you feel exposed then it will show in your photos that you're not happy.

I also don't like having my hair up as I associate it with when I don't have time to wash it! I always envisaged myself as having my hair half up/half down with curls but when it came to my trial it didn't feel 'special' enough! So the hairdresser started to pin the curls into a side bun type thing and I loved it. So after all that, I did have my hair up on my wedding day.

I'd go for a trial and just have a play. A decent hairdresser should be able to advise you and try out several styles to work out the one you like best.

I really struggled to decide what to do with my hair as I never do anything with it. I also hate having my hair up, it always reminds me of being a little girl when my mum used to do my hair! I took a picture of me in my dress to the hairdresser and she suggested having my hair up. My first thought was no way! But I thought I would go with it and if I liked it then I knew she was a good hairdresser! She ended up doing a side bun with a few curls which looks absolutely gorgeous, its like a work of art. I would go for a trial and see what you think.

I knew I would always wear my hair down - I put it ina ponytail for work, gym etc but at wkends & special occassions its always down. I feel more confident with hair done & with my fringe - did try growing it out as a side fringe but quickly gave up! You need something thats comfortable & something that makes you feel confident while being like YOU.

My dress was a big princessy dress with a huge train, I added clip in extensionsm for volume, had my hair done in ghd curls with a top section lifted so I had sthing to put my veil into. I absolutely adored my hair. Im for a wedding next month & Im going to get the extensions put in again, it was amazing to have hair!
