How Did You Find Your Current Job?

Red Baroness, 15 December, 2011 at 15:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 19

Just curious as to whether you searched online and if so what websites do you use?

I found it through Reed.co.uk but it was advertised by the company not the agency. The company also put it on their website and i downloaded the application form from there.

Oh yes online is my main job search place. Current job was through an agency but that's because they found my cv on CV Library. I actually get loads of calls through that.

I'm also registered to receive emails from all marketing job boards and also Reed and Guardian.

Im also registered with lots of marketing recruitment agencies.

In both my current role and the secret thing I was approached and asked to join/set up the company.

The law job before that was a result of a direct application and the one before that was through Hudson Legal.

Do you want me to send you a list of decent legal sites, Bazza?

Mine was through totaljobs website. Have tried agencies before, but I always feel that they just want another number on their books.

Thanks, that'd be grand. I do think speculative applications will work better for me. I'm waiting til after the NY before sending some out. I had a call from another recruitment consultant last week who seems to think there will be movement in the NY. Fingers crossed.

I was just curious as to what everyone else does and what works for them.

Reed employment agency contacted me knowing I'd always wanted to get into the field I'm in. Started temping, was with them for 18 months and then got a fixed term contract. Six years later I'm still here, on another FTC until the end of April. Hoping I can get something else here after that.

I made a list of websites for the field I wanted to apply for and kept searching them. I wanted to look for a job within higher ed administration, as that was where my experience pointed to, so I just listed universities in London and kept an eye on their jobs pages.

Same as this. Although this time around, I knew the arena I wanted to go into specifically, and so I did the rounds weekly on these employers' vacancy pages rather than looking at the Guardian/Standard only.

People have always contacted me because of word of mouth recommendations. That was up until my present job, they found me and contacted me via my profile on a website to do with my line of work.

Not really. I'll need to target specialised agencies and send out speculative applications (which is what has worked for me in the past).

It was out of curiosity really (and also if I ever decided to have a change in career). It seems online agencies, such a Reed, are the favoured method.
