We are at the stage of talking through date options for our 2014 wedding...i like the sound of 2nd August 2014...there are no special date for us in the summer months so we can't go off that and it's hard to know what is going to be going on 2 years in advance (royal weddings, parades, big events...

We chose Fri 3 May 2013. We always knew we were going to have a weekday wedding because it would be considerably lot cheaper than a weekend wedding! So with that in mind wanted to pick a bank holiday weekend too for any family/friends travelling from far.

We were going to get married in september as i always wanted an autumn wedding, so chose the 29/9/12, and september is our anniversary month. However, we then brought it forward as he was due to be posted out of area in sep, and the 12th of may was the only saturday available at our venue, but now i love the date!!

First of all, we had a deadline of roughly the end of August 2013, because my current permission to stay in the UK will expire on 7 Oct 2013, so to allow for enough time to get the married visa, we needed to choose a date before then.

Secondly, OH's sister-in-law is a teacher in the US, and we decided to make our wedding during a time when she could come. No one else really had any strict scheduling issues, otherwise we would have taken all parents and siblings into consideration in a similar way.

So, that left summer holidays, March break, and Christmas. We got engaged at Christmas, so when looking at dates we decided:

1- Six months would be too short notice, and i already knew 3 people getting married summer 2012.

2- While I'm sure a December wedding would be lovely, every guest on my side will be flying from overseas. So, in the event that it snows and EVERY AIRPORT IS SHUT DOWN FOR THREE DAYS I would be very very very upset.

3- March is really iffy weather-wise, and didn't stand out for either of us

4- So.. summer 2013 it is!

As for the specific date, we chose it because it was close to the solstice and would have the most light.. and then we realised that it was exactly 2 weeks after my birthday and 2 weeks before his!

We knew we didn't want a Saturday wedding, as we are both in retail and working on a Saturday is standard, so we picked a Sunday as knew it would make it easier for a lot of our guests. We didn't want a hot month, so didn't want July or August, so went for May as I thought it sounded nice. I also have a weird thing about odd numbers, I wasn't prepared to get married in 2013 for a long time, until OH told me to stop being silly, so picked the 12th May 2013.

Our venue is the theatre where we both work, the function room is part of the main foyer so we had to have a date when the theatre is closed in august for maintenance weeks. best date was the middle of august and as most of our guests are scattered throughout the country in the theatre industry, saturday is a silly busy day in our world so we went for a friday!

sorry no caps, daughter asleep on arm! xxx

We decided we wanted a winter wedding as OH absolutely loves Christmas, and the 8th was far enough away from Christmas to allow people time after the wedding to get organised. We also wanted to go on honeymoon oer Christmas, so had to have the wedding at least 2 weeks before. Also definately wanted a Saturday, as it is hard for most of our family to get time off work during the week, around Christmas time.

Ours isn't anything romantic I'm afraid. OH proposed in March 2010 on my birthday, we knew we would need a good couple of years to save up and we knew we didn't want a date in the prime summer months, we chose September 2012 but when we found our dream venue they couldn't accomodate our tiny wedding in September as it was the main wedding season so we moved it onto the first week in October instead. It was a practical decision really.

Pretty much we brought our wedding forward by a year (as my parents are ill) so I didn't think I could manage it in less 9 months. We are getting married n a Sunday and shifted the exact date two or three times when liaising with the registrar to get the time we wanted (2-2:30pm)
