How does a Dad dance work?

Pollyjean35, 23 March, 2011 at 13:04 Posted on Planning 0 6

So after our first dance the wedding party will take to the floor for the second sng but how does it all work if you want to dance with your Dad? Does the Groom just dance with your mum?

I think my MILTB would be raging if my OH danced with my mum before her! OH Dad wont be there so its not like he can dance with my mum.

I usually advise my brides to have the dads dance straight after the first dance. If you have it after the wedding party dance you'll be asking people to sit down. Ideally, you start off with the first dance, just two people, then build it up so.... 1st dance, bride and dad, mum & groom, wedding party with all guests invited up during that song. Then you've built the dance floor up ready to carry on IYSWIM.

For the dad and bride dance, its usually just them. Because the words don't always fit with a mum and groom, a separate song is used for them (if you're having one). Saying that, I have done it where the brides dad and bride start, then grooms mum and groom are invited to join them a little way in, then they swap partners and other people are then invited up.

I often spend a lot of time chatting to my brides about the first few special songs because the DJ can literally manipulate it to suit individual circumstances. Done right, it flows seamlessly. Your entertainer needs to know exactly how you want it as its down to them to lead it.

Sorry... just re read your first post. Traditionally you dance with your dad and the groom dances with his mum not yours.

Bloody hell that's a lot of dances! We were just going to do the first dance and three-quarters way through get the parents up. Now I'm wondering if that would be weird. Especially as our first dance song is Fleetwood Mac, Need your love so bad. Hmmmmm.

Cool, you'll need to let me know how it goes as we still don't have anyone to dj yet (we have until July next year though Smiley smile )
