My OH and I are going to see the venue on Saturday that is top of my list - so if he likes it, we'll be booking on Sat to be married in 2 years and a month (and a bit)

From getting engaged or finding it?

it was a week/2 weeks from getting engaged, we saw it on the friday morning (our first venue we saw) then went to see another, but couldnt stop thinking about the first so took my mum to see it on the monday and paid the deposit!

we knew it was what we wanted (and newly opened so a bargain!) so we went for it!

Got engaged in April 2009, starting looking at venues straightaway, and booked our venue in August 2009...so about 2 years before our wedding

We booked our original venue in June 2010 for an August 2012 wedding. If you know it's the one you love, then why wait? Now that they've cancelled us and we have to book another venue, it'll be around 13 months before the wedding. It's off-peak season in Australia though, so they still have availability for our date.

Can't remember precisely, but would have been the tail end of last year sometime for an Aug 2012 wedding. Absolutely no point in waiting if you find one you love, as they seemingly get booked up so far in advance. We fell in love with it, and as we're getting married on the sat of the bank holiday weekend knew that it wouldn't be available for long.

We got engaged in December and I started looking about 2 days later (its the organiser in me) We booked at the begining of Jan but as we had been in contact with them from before we managed to lock in at 2010 prices for our 2012 wedding

We agreed to start looking at venues after my sister got married in feburay this year.

We actually got round to looking in march.

Its now june and we have seen 9 places, and we still havent found the one!

Seeing one next week, so fingers crossed it will all be ok.

I really think it depends on what time of year. This one venue we went to said we pretty much had the pick of any date for late Autumn/Winter 2012. We are currently setting the budget before setting the date as I think money is going to tell us what time of year we can do this at the right venue.

Exactly WSS! Got engaged Christmas Day 2010 and started looking at the start of Jan 11. Saw quite a few but some were really awful looking, when we found 'our' venue it was well out of our budget but so much more impressive than any of the others we checked out so decided to go for it.

Started looking as soon we got engaged & booked one 3 months later. We'll have been engaged 2.5yrs when we get married but we wanted a saturday & with OH work holidays it had to be July (a big holiday month in NI) so we knew threre'd be at least a 2 yrs for planning. Suited us well because within the first ye we bought a new build house & made it livable then this last year weve planned & saved for the wedding sthing shocking!

We got engaged in the December and I think we had our venue booked by the end of the January. I looked at loads online but only actually went to see a handful.

When we first got engaged I was itching to look at venues and book somewhere but OH wanted to "enjoy being engaged" first. After 2 months (and some pestering) we viewed a venue and fell in love with it straight away. We booked it about 6 weeks later.

I should add - although we've only just started planning in earnest, we have been engaged for nearly 3 years lol

Even before we got engaged I knew where I actually wanted to get married, so that was all done and dusted. H2B and I went to visit it maybe a few weeks after we got engaged and he liked it too and loved my reasons for wanting to marry there.

The reception venue was a bit trickier. I only saw it by chance as it's in my hometown and I never knew you could hire it out. My mum and I walked past it one day and decided to go in and inquire about it. I then went back with H2B as they were having a wedding fair. We decided we liked it and booked in to do a proper visit with both sets of parents. After that we took a couple of weeks to mull it over and then booked it. At this point there were maybe 20 months to go but then we brought the date forward so had to take the only summer date where both venues were available, about 7 months to go at that point IIRC.
