How long were you engaged?

We got engaged Christmas 2005, got married August 2008. We didn't set a wedding date though until Jan 2006, i suppose we had a very long engagement.

I have got friends who are getting married this summer who will have been engaged for almost 7 years. They have been saving money and buying and doing a house up and getting a degree at Uni, it has taken them much longer than expected.

Engaged Jan 05 and married August 06

Were together from Jan 2002 and lived together from Nov 04

We don't rush things ?

11 months for us. Engaged September 2007, married October 2008.

We both decided we didn't want a long engagement.

18 months. I'd have happily done it in half that time, but my older brother's wedding was already in the diary and I think his wife would have been upset if I'd have planned my wedding too close to theirs.

Ditto. Am so bored of wedding planning, I'd rather just do it tomorrow now!

We got engaged Oct 05 and got married last July so just over 2.5 years

But H being romantic wanted to get married on our anniversary (I think its so he didnt have to remember more than one date!) and the first time after we got together that it was on a saturday was 2008

Over 2 years. We got engaged in May 2005 and finally got married in September 2007. Was due to a variety of reasons - Saving, Decision about where/how to get married, me deciding to postpone once (again as I was unsure about the decisions we had made so far - I am very indecisive - lol!).

We had been together for 7 years already when we got engaged so we don't do things quickly! lol.

We got engaged June 03 and married in May 05 (4yrs ago yesterday, in fact!) We got married abroad and figured it'd take around 2 years to save up to pay for everything. My level of actual planning was minimal once we found a travel company to book with, I found it all a bit dull also.

We got engaged 5th Nov 2004, got married 5th Nov 2008 so 4 years exactly. We got together 5th Nov 2000 so we decided to keep it simple for him to remember the dates by waiting the 4 years.

Most of the planning came together in the last 3 months but little bits had been done over the time. The time didn't bother me too much as I had work and OT to keep me sane. (think I was more on OT than WP in the run up to the day!)

And no, unless there is some miracle the first kid won't arrive on the 5th Nov 2012! ?

Hmm 2.5 years. We were together just over 7 when we got married.

We got engaged March 2006, got married July 2008. Main reason for wait was that my H got out of the Army in March 2008, and we wanted to wait for that.

We got together officially on 28th feb 2005, engaged same date 2006 and got married 23rd feb 2008 (nearest saturday in feb to 28th) How twee are we!?!

So 2 years engaged (less a few days)

Got engaged 24th April 2003, married 25th April 2004. It would have been a year, but the venue didn't do Saturday weddings.

It was 16 months here. I did want to get married sooner but thought I'd try and loose some baby weight first...it didn't happen ?

About a year and a half, we wanted to save a little bit of money in the time available.

Engaged for 1 year exactly, but had been together 10 years by then, living together for 8 years. I guess he needed time to be sure...

Year and a half give or take. Seemed like a reasonable amount of time as we live in Brighton and were getting married in Scotland, so needed a bit of time to find suppliers etc.

About 18 months - engaged Oct 2005 married April 2007. It was about right I think - gave us enough time to save up anyway.

We got engaged in May 2002 (after we'd been together 2 years) and got married in June 2006, so just over 4 years. We weren't planning the wedding for all that time though - just for the last year and a half. We waited for quite a long time as we were quite young when we got engaged (22) so although we knew we wanted to be together there seemed no point in rushing! Also, we both wanted to wait until we'd finished our PhDs by the time we got married, although that didn't happen in the end (his took 2 months after we got married, mine took another 2 years!).

We were engaged ages, 18 months. We got engaged after 6 months and were going to marry when we'd been together a year, but thought we better wait one more year, just to be sure!

Getting married after only a year together seemed like a short space of time, and I was only 25 when we met.

We were engaged for ages and ages- about 5 years- and together for about 8 by the time we finally tied the knot, but we planned the wedding in 4 months. Well, more like 4 days- I was sooooooooo not bothered with the planning stages. I never belonged to WP here, for example, and was only on Confetti for the banter. ?

Roughly 18 months but we got enagaged in mid December so it was January before we started planning properly. We wanted a sumemr wedding but found lots of things for that summer were already booked so decided to set the date for the year after.

8 Months for us, which was just right for enjoying it and not long enough to get bored.?

We were engaged for 8 months but I had been secretly planning the wedding for about 3 months prior to our engagement. I know that sounds odd but its something we had always planned to do but never seemed to find the time to do it, then I had a serious health scare that kind of put things into perspective. I was going to suprise him closer to the day of the wedding but we heard a story on the radio one day of a woman booking the whole wedding and not telling the groom until he arrived at the ceremony......Mr Nora said he would be horrified so I had to tell him I'd booked our wedding for the following year ? He'd asked me 3 times to be his wife and I'd always said no so I knew it was definitely something he wanted to do.

Got together November 2001, moved in together April 2003, got engaged April 2005 and married May 2007. So a whole lot of 2 year intervals going on there ?

We probably wouldn't have moved in together so quickly (we weren't quite 24) but we lived 150 miles apart. The engagement was about a week after we had our offer accepted on our first house - I guess he felt it was time to make it official. Bless'im.

We got engaged Aug 1996 and got married July 2002 so almost 6 years. We didn't set the date until November 2001 so we weren't planning for too long. We had 2 children between the engagement and the wedding so that delayed things.

We got engaged in Feb 2004 and married in July 2006 although only set a date in June 05 - to be honest the bulk of our wedding was planned in 11 weeks (venue, food etc.) as I had a flip out over the Easter holiday and cancelled our venue, caterers, toilets, chocolate fountain, videographer ?

Just to add, I didn't cancel the wedding, just decided it had all got far too big and OTT - I was making myself ill over cutlery and crockery design and looking at teacup rides and helicopters and so on, it was turning into a joke and far from the lovely day we ended up with.

In hindsight, I'd discourage anyone to plan anything more than a year in advance, in my experience the more time you have the more carried away you get and taste often goes out the window!

We were engaged about 18 months but only 'planning' for about 6 months - I was never a natural planner and couldn't find it in me to care about the intricacies of napkins.

I had just finished my first year of work so the plan was to save up but as it is, nearly another year down the line, we're still as poor as when we were students ?
