I'm not sure what we are having yet as OH is organising this as a surprise, I did say that I wanted at least one tier that was chocolate though Smiley smile

We didn't think the cake was that important either.

I found one I liked which was too expensive, and a friend of a friend who is a cake maker is going to make us something similar for £125, 3 tier sponge, delivered and set up at the venue which I thought was reasonable, wouldn't have wanted to spend more than that really, though can see why some people do as the cakes are gorgeous! But for us the money was better spent elsewhere.

I dunno if anyone would do this, but if my mum wasn't making ours, I thought we could have bought lots of the Tesco Red Velvet cupcakes and have them! They're soo tasty, and are £1.25 for 4 which works out at...£25 for 80! But I would only do that if I got to eat them all, as they are so yum.

And choccie chip. You could decorate them, and just buy a top tier from somewhere. Just a thought. They are so tasty though! I know I've said that, but I love them!

My OH's sister is doing ours as her wedding gift to us. Its something she's always wanted to do and her course starts next week. She's also been making cakes for any occasion recently including Nan's 80th, cousin's christening, OH's birthday...and they have all been really good which is promising. She's hoping to make a go of it so she's bought all the cake tins, our 4 tier cake stand etc etc.

I always notice the cake in the reception and think it is always an important feature of a wedding.

I'd rather people took it home than ate it on the night anyway, as they'll just be drunk and not notice what it tastes like! Might have to ask someone to position it by the exit with cake box's so people take it home!

Ours cost £500 for 3 tiers (fruit, lemon, fruit) and a chocolate cutting bar - but it was the best damn cake that we (and several of the guests) had ever tasted :-)

We're getting married on my dad's birthday so are having 60 cupcakes iced to match our colour scheme as our wedding cake, and then for the evening a surprise birthday cake for dad which will be a replica of his Land Rover complete with rally stickers (he's a big off road enthusiast). We're paying £200 for the lot from a local cake lady ?

I was going to make ours, then we decided I'm enough of a stresshead without that pressure so we were going down the m&s route but booked a cake maker today to do a 3 teir (one fruit one vanilla sponge one choc fudge) for £200 - bearing in mind the 3 other quotes I've had have been for £300+

I'm not going to be very helpful - I work with a lady who makes fabulous cakes and she's offered to do the cake for us, all I have to pay for is the ingredients.

If my work colleague wasn't making the cake, I'd have gone for the cheapest option I could find.

I was going to make cupcakes and a single tier to do the cutting the cake with, myself as I'm very into baking. I know it'll be far more stressful than baking for birthdays etc so i'm not sure. May go down the supermarket route!!

Ours isn't costing a penny (thank heavens!) because h2b's aunt is making it as her gift to us. We're really lucky actually because she's able to work miracles with gluten and dairy-free stuff, which is fantastic because a lot of our guests (me included!) have various dietary issues with regular cake.

Definitely, I would so do this if Mum wasn't already doing it. If you do, take pictures so we can see how it looks. And also, can I come to eat some of them?!

We're not paying anything for ours either. My family used to own a bakery before my parents retired. So mum is making the cake and my brother who used to design wedding cakes is decorating it Smiley smile Bonus!!

Im going to buy 2 or 3 tiers from marks and put a bit of ribbon round and some false flowers and spend abou £40. most people i know spent 400 or 500 on a cake and one actually said 'you cant do that' when i said my plans!!!! i have 2 kids and i would rather put them in clothes for a year thankyou!!!! honestly, we had other priorities like the photographer. ive never noticed a cake, people who froze their 500pound cakes said they were ruined when unfozen and all it is, is for 1 photo of you both stood there with a knife and a cheesy grin!!!!
