I think all in we're spending about £18k ? we'd never be able to do this without help from our families. Everything is very expensive...we're having a big wedding of about 200 people though so if you were doing a smaller one you'd be able to save much more.

I think it can be done on a budget though, and if we were paying for everything ourselves we'd be having a marquee in someone's garden with fish and chips. I think it's about having the people you love there and the ceremony itself.

    Hi fellow newbie

At last count, I think ours is coming in at about £28k including honeymoon. We both know that we are very lucky though to have a budget like this.

Hi every wedding is different, we are spending about 21k all in all including the honeymoon, which i was not expecting to pay! its amazing how all the little things add up, we had 23 months to save but still wish had given us a bit more time! oh well never mind!! it depends what you can or want to do yourself and if you have talented friends and family to help. Also worth asking for any discounts from suppliers, we got some deals with having a winter wedding so have saved a little bit here and there.

Good luck with all the planning

Ours is 9k for everything with 100 guests, but practically everything outside of the venue and catering is homemade, second hand or borrowed!

Ours with the honeymoon is getting close to about 18k so far which is scary when you look at it!

we have really shopped around, saved loads of money, paid for it all ourselves so I do think we have done well.

We have been engaged for four and a half years though so have been planning and saving a long time.

Our wedding costs come to just over 4k - we have 32 guests at the ceremony and an evening reception of 100 people

Our budget is £5k but, so far, everything I've bought has come in under budget. e.g. budgeted £300 for my dress and got it for £250. Budgeted £60 each for the bridesmaid dresses, got them at £12 each. Hall for reception budgeted £200, got it for £150.

About 7k, which includes dream venue, band at the reception and tog. Everything else is DIY because we want to to be rather than to save money. I love crafting so the chance to spend a year making millions of projects was a chance I couldn't miss.

The most important thing is to spend money on the things that matter to you and save on the things that don't.

We have an "official" budget of £8500, with an extra pot of £1000 just in case. That covers a weekend wedding in a beautiful waterside venue with sit down meal for 80, evening buffet for 100, sweet buffet, chair covers, live band, TOG and VOG, my outfit and accessories, outfits and accessories for 3 bridesmaids and one flowergirl, OH and pageboy's outfit hire, flowers, stationery, rings, hair and makeup for 4, favours, overnight accommodation and breakfast. My mum is buying our cake and the honeymoon will be paid for separately, planning to budget around £2500 for that.

Everything I read before starting to plan said the average wedding costs around £20k or more. Doesn't have to be anywhere close to that!

Official budget is £7k which is all kindly donated from both sets of parents, meaning we haven't saved at all. It does mean that we can justify the odd extra that we pay for ourselves, eg I had budgeted £300 for my dress (because I'd already found one way under than, so thought I'd have extra money!) and then fell in love with another one at £450, but that's fine as I can pay the extra.

    This is roughly split as:

£1k honeymoon, £1.5k tog and albums, £1k wedding breakfast (40 people), £1k evening reception (120-150 people) incl. venue hire, food, chair covers, decorations and entertainment, £1k for the ceremony, flowers and transport, and £1.5k on all outfits.

    Hello mummymrs2b,

    Welcome to Hitched.

We have budgeted £6K for ours including our honeymoon. Luckily and very helpfully my parents are paying for our reception venue and my Gran is paying for our church otherwise we would be looking at a budget of £9.5K. We are only having 23 people to the day and 100 to an evening do.

We are hoping to do alot of things ourselves to keep to our budget and are hoping that if anyone does want to get us a gift then they will contribute to our honeymoon.

We have a budget of 9 k , we splashed almost 3 of that on the honeymoon, we have two kids, and we thought we will never get this opp again for a long time, so we booked a week in mexico all inclusive for us both 5*.

I think it all depends on what you want from your day ( there is no right or wrong, its YOUR day)We sacrificed a big evening reception for our honeymoon, but we felt the hard earned cash was best spent on us than food, music, drink etc for everyone else! ( some might say selfish)

We have booked a gorgeous big estate house for our ceremony of 30 (including us) and we are off to a hotel we both love for a meal with them all and then we leave that night for our honeymoon Smiley smile we are hoping to cut the 8k where poss, so far :

900- Photographer ( i wasn't willining to compromise my story book album , but this is a great value for money winter package we got)

    1000- meal

    400- day venue

    2,700- honeymoon.

£8000 without the honeymoon, but we're holding off on this until we've saved up or see how many pennies we get, as we've requested money rather than gifts.

You can now do wedding gift list in travel agents to help pay towards the cost of a honeymoon. Just thought that might be an idea for you

Ours is going to be roughly 12-13k excluding honeymoon. We are saving around 8k and are very lucky that other family members are contributing too.

Ours is £7,500 not including honeymoon, we're paying for it ourselves and have 40 coming to the ceremony and 150 in the evening, our main saving is knowing a photographer who's offered to do it as a present for us.

Ours is £2700! We are paying for it all ourselves. But I do have a very kind MIL2B that is going to make our cake, our table arrangements and our flowers! We are having a small wedding though! Its not including honeymoon though as were requesting money/travel vouchers as gifts!

If you do lots of research and shopping around you can find some good deals! Also Haggle!

Ours is looking to be around £12k which we have managed to save up ourselves and it doesn't yet include the honeymoon. My parents have said that they will get us a videographer which was a lovely surprise as we hadn't budgeted for it.

We have a wedding budget of £50,000, the honeymoon budget is seperate. 100 people in the day and around 130 in the evening. Thankfully, money isn't too much of an issue. Yes, I do realise how lucky I am, although the cost of the wedding doesn't actually make it any better, I think the people/atmosphere is key to a great event! ?

Oooh Miss_J, flash us a few hints and treats ?

As Miss_J says, I'm a big believer in the fact that it's the people and the atmosphere that make the parts, whether your budget is £2k or £50k, if you make the day how YOU want it, you'll have an amazing time. Personally, if myself or my family were incredibly wealthy, then I probably would spent Miss_J's budget in one day, I'm not going to lie!

The fact that I'm not incredibly wealthy means that I wouldn't dream of spending that amount on money, even if somebody handed it to me on a [large] plate, because we could sell our £100k house and use the extra £50k to buy somewhere even more perfect! Or use the £50k to convert the loft into an extra bedroom, and get the garden landscaped, and a new boiler, etc etc etc. When money is tight, I think throwing it at a wedding would make most brides actually feel a bit guilty and more anxious about their big day (it would me!) whereas spending, spending, spending WITHIN budget (whatever budget that might be!) is soooo therapeutic ?

Too much!! Our budget started at 8k and has grown to about 13k not including the honeymoon. I've found that its the 'little' bits that though on their own don't cost much when you have lots it soon ads up!
