I bought my dress 4 months ago, still waiting for it to arrive, i fell in love with it before i knew how much it was so i knew it as the right one for me regardless, it was £940 in the shop i bought it from and after some research i found it was cheaper than most places which averaged £1200-£1500...

I'm sat here worrying about how much it cost and only for one day!!

Am i the only one who feels guilty for spending so much? my husband to be thinks i'm being daft, he says that knowing how fussy i am with dresses if it can put a smile on my face like the day i bought it then it's worth every penny Smiley smile

In all fairness you didn't have to reply if you are offended by the question, i'm not bragging by any means, i was merely asking out of interest no one has been forced directly in to commenting, they have done so through their own choice.

Mine cost £500 down from £1100 - got the lace shrug for £20 and my side tiara cost £140 but after looking at the actual webpage of the company it was £80..

Just asking a question, not accusing anyone of anything! I'm well aware the op hasn't twisted anyone's arms into responding.

I can honestly say I am not offended in the slightest, and if I had have been I would not have replied!

We're all either brides or brides to be and the general price range of wedding dresses is well known, why is it impolite to be curious? I asked my sister in laws (to be) and their friends how much they paid as they used the same shop... It's the same sentiment.

I feel really guilty about mine, I had set out to spend as little as possible but ended up with a dress that cost 995, with shoes and accessories bumping that up to around 1400. Its strange, I feel happy and sad about that both at the same time...

£220 for a sample dress. Price is immaterial if you can afford it and it's what you really really want, don't feel guilty.

Mine is costing £945 but that's before alterations. I'm not having a veil or a tiara, although the shop certainly tried to persuade me! My hair clip cost £12.50. I'm hoping to get BHS shoes. Can't believe my mum is spending over a grand on a dress for one day, but it's such a special day!

My dress was supposed to be 1180 but managed to get them down to 1000 I have to have length n straps altered which is on top. I'm paying 190 for my shoes to be made bespoke though . The shoes were 45 reduced from 65 on eBay and I'm having them decorated

Mine is costing £995 before alterations - it's going to need taking up and taking in in places so I don't expect they'll be cheap. I originally expected a dress to cost me a lot less really just because I didn't have a clue, but I love it and don't feel guilty about it in the slightest. The first dress I 'settled' on was £1200 so when I started to have wobbles and then fell in love with a dress £200 cheaper I was more than happy! I'm not wearing a veil, and my shoes have cost me £7 in the sale at DPs which I think might mean I can spend a bit more on a headpiece ?

Mine was £1150 for a sample. I will pay for dry cleaning but it doesn't need alterations and I'm wearing shoes I've already got in the wardrobe and not having a veil. I feel very guilty about mine, even though the price came down lots. I keep thinking I should sell it and wear a high-street dress but then I think I will just sell it after the wedding anyway so it won't make any difference to sell it now.

I have dress price guilt. Mine is a jenny Packham ex-sample - I got it for £1400 instead of £3100 but it needs a lot of re-beading which I'm doing myself to save £200 and I bought a £5 silk wipe instead of getting it dry cleaned! It's such a ridiculous amount of money for one day but I was running out of time and felt fat and yuk in all the other ones so just did it. Ha I'm trying to justify it to you all which shows my guilt! I don't think I'll be able to sell it after as I'll need to visit it it in the wardrobe at least once a week. I'm not having a veil, got ex sample shoes and am on the hunt for cheap hair accessories to try and make up for it a bit!

Mine is going to be bespoke and I've been quoted £750-£800 depending one exact designs and fabrics.

Although it feels like a lot of money at least i won't need to pay any extra for alterations as it will be made specially to fit me ;-)

Probably going to come to around £150...this is for bespoke with silk and lace purchased by moi Smiley smile

Of course it's not your traditional wedding dress which is probably why it's such a bargain!

I think on a wedding forum I think it's perfectly acceptable, but if my friends and family were to start asking me (I don't have a dress yet) I would find it terribly rude as it's really not relevant to them.

Thanks FebBride I've budgeted £100 for mine so I just hope it's not more!

i didn't think it was an offensive question at all, it's NOTHING like being asked how much you earn! Salaries can be seen as your 'worth' (I don't agree with this though - I know people who work in v challenging jobs and earn peanuts) whereas the price of your dress is just how much you've chosen to pay!

Mine was £444 originally I didn't give myself a budget. I looked at soo many dresses some were over a grand but didn't suit me and didn't feel right. I happened to find a shop my friend was getting her dress from but has since had to postpone the wedding her dress was ordered about 2 years ago by some kind of feight there was a sign outside saying all wedding dresses were half price and found one that fitted me perfectly soo much so 2 months later it still fits and am not having to pay anything for alterations even after christmas. Unlike most brides I haven't dieted . I think at the end of the day you have to feel comfortable in the dress and like it is the dress.

I nearly went for a cheaper dress in a wedding shop which didn't fit and where the assistant didn't seem to listen to me. Soo much so the dresses werre being pinned to me and I kept being given ruffled dresses to try even though I said no ruffles and I tried on some really expensive dresses that I hated. My other half though found it strange though when the shop rang about fitting and he realised the owner was a man lol.

It may be only one day but normally you only get one wedding day and you don't want to wish you had that dress that felt soo perfect. Smiley smile

I told myself (pre-dress trying on) that I wouldn't spend more than £600 on my dress. Then when I actually started trying them on I convinced myself it was totally rational to spend thousands of pounds on something I wanted. I fell in love with a £900 dress, and then 3 weeks later (just before I was about to order it) it was in their sample sale for £395. Delighted!!!!!

Mine was £2200 new and made to measure, plus £200 for the bolero, and £170 for the veil (both of which were from Preloved). My belt that I wore in the evening was £120.

I tried on dresses ranging from £900 to the one I eventually chose, but I couldn't imagine having worn anything else, so to me it was worth every penny.

I knew exactly what style I wanted and found a few on line about £300 mark. But wanted it to be from a shop and be able to get it fitted properly etc. When I went to look I found the perfect dress and didn't ask the price until I'd stood in it. When I found out I talked to my other half about the cost and he said I must really love it if I was considering the cost, as I'm normally super frugal. So £1300 it is, with adjustments still to be made with additional to be defined ££... Should arrive in the shop this month, exercising and dieting like mad..

Mine without alterations is £1900, alterations could be anything up to £200. I haven't factored shoes, accessories in yet other than my head piece (that I'm not 100% sure on so may change my mind).

My mum is paying for my dress but even if she wasn't I still would have chosen the same dress. I tried on a £495 dress first in a different shop and I'm sorry but you can tell the difference. The quality of the materials, the cut of the bodice, you definitely get what you pay for in my opinion.

That being said - there are some lovely dresses at the lower end of the price range, I think it's just once you've tried on a higher end dress you'll forever notice the difference and compare.

I'm wearing my friend 's dress! I spent ages looking for a dress, going round and round in circles and trying on some horrors!. The style I had in mind was really similar to my friend's, which she'd offered to me all along. After another hideous shopping experience she made me try hers on! It's the one! I love it that it's something we can share, and hopefully tell the story when we are old! Her mum is delighted too that it's getting another wear.

I'll have to have it cleaned and again after, and a couple of buttons mended, so perhaps all in all will cost me £200 ish - plus I'm buying a different veil and headpiece. Oh yes, and a nice thank you gift for her!
