How was your journey to work this morning?

hay, 10 June, 2009 at 09:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 29

Got on the 6am train which had its own problems with signal failure on the line. Got into Euston and walked from there to Bishopsgate. At my desk by 7.40.

No busier than normal if I'm honest. 07.28 train to Charing Cross. Intention was to jump on a bus but saw all stops were out of use (what happened to the extra busses?) so walked up through Leicester Square, Regent Street then Hanover Square. At my desk by 08.45.

Long, slow and not pleasant and Im outside of London..

Not sure what was going on but the road from Chelmsford to Harlow was crawling along at snail pace today, the M11 looked busy going south too

Left the house 8.05am, dropped daughter at nursery 8.20am, at my desk 8.30am. The joys of not working in London! I'm in Liverpool and live about 2 miles from the city centre where I work.

Dropped children off at nursery at 8am, got on my bike 8.05am and 15 rather soggy minutes later at work. (However I was fully togged up in waterproofs and I have short, quick drying hair so not too bad!)

The best bit is that it's mainly downhill on the way back so an even quicker ride home!

Okay. Got the National Express train from Tottenham into Liverpool Street, then walked to Moorgate and got on the Northern Line to where I work. Left home about 45 minutes earlier and got into the office bang on time. Took one and a half hours instead of my usual 45 minutes, but it wasn't a bad journey.

Y'know what? Those journeys sound really interesting, I love a nice walk to work.

I just drive about 10 mins down the road to MIL's, leave MissSun and then take the 5 mins walk to work. Nothing very eventful, no public transport.

Left home at 7.55, arrived at MIL's about 8.05. Left for work about 8.30, at my desk by 8.50am.

No problem at all. Train was a lot busier than usual in to waterloo but I'd heard the jubilee line was running out to canary wharf. Got down to tube, waited 4 mins, and then had a seat all the way as it was so empty. Was in work at 8am - normal time.

No different from most other days. Dropped OH off at his work at just before 8am and was in my work for 8.15am. Roads are a good bit quieter at that time in the morning.

I got up vay early to miss the crowds, got a lift to an overground station and got to Marylebone by 6.50ish. Walked roughly 4 miles to the office. Was pretty cool actually as I bumped into an old mate who I hadn't seen in about 10 years and we nattered the whole way. In work 1.5hr earlier than normal so can leave early to, hopefully, avoid crowds on way home. Am seriously considering packing up the tube altogether and running the bits inbetween the train.

Same as usual, although I was 10 minutes later leaving so the roads were a tad busier. Took about 15-20 minutes to drive 9 miles.

But then I'm firmly in NotLondon so I suspect the question doesn't really apply to me!

I drove in - the roads were packed so it took an hour to do 7 miles. For my interview this afternoon I will drive to Chiswick, get the main line train into Waterloo and then walk from Waterloo to Oxford Circus - I just hope it's not raining. There is a bus I can get as well though, so not too bad. Or I could get the northern line to Charing Cross and walk from there.

Fcuking, fcuking awful. Left the house at 7.30am (an hour and a half earlier than usual). 12 buses went past and none of them were either the 205 or 25. Walked to Aldgate, miraculously picked up a 25 that had gone out of service and randomly come back in again at 8.45am... made it as far as Holborn by 10:30am and walked the remaining miles. Got in at 11am. The roads were awful, the bus was awful and my mood is awful.

Also distinctly unipressed to arrive and find out that some of the tubes are working - would have been nice to have had that information this morning when I left the house. I get tube updates on my mobile - but clearly not this morning!

I walked from Kennington to Holborn (about 2 and half miles)> I've done the walk loads of times last year when I was more healthy and less pregnant. Once at my desk I checked TfL and realised that I could have got a tube in (kennington to TCR as normal) as the Northern line is the only one running fine. Oh well, it's a nice walk and I've had a bit of exercise.

Might even walk home if it's not raining

It was lovely. I have found a cycle path the whole way there which, although a few mins longer, means I do not have to fight with any cars at all. I saw a bird with a worm in it's mouth looking very pleased with itself, although no baby bunnies today.

Journey home not as much fun as was without old mate but, on the final leg of my journey when I was contemplating walking for another mile overr waiting for a bus, along came another old mate in his van. Hoorah for old friends and being home at 5.30.

My poor H left the house (in Oxford) at 6:45 this morning and arrived at his desk (South Kensington) at 10:30 (usually in for 9:15). This afternoon he left just after 4pm and his bus home is still stuck in London... I have no idea at what ridiculous hour he will finally get home, he'll be working at home tomorrow if the strikes continue.

Was lovely. Even though the Northern Line was running I cycled like I normally do. Roads were busier than normal and there was quite a few wobbly cyclists who clearly haven't been on a bike since it had stabilisers on it. Hopefully it will encourage more people to cycle in instead of braving the stinking underground tin-cans in future.

The 25 was totally shyte today, wasn't it?

I had to get from a certain central London hospital to a certain linked east London hospital at midday. An hour and 4 absolutely full 25s which just drove past later, I gave up and walked. I was an hour late for work and not impressed. Where were the extra buses? If anything there were less than usual.

Luckily not many punters have been able to get in either so it's been a fairly <touch wood> quiet day <touch wood>.

Awful. need to get from St Albans to Earls court. Usually go to Kings X and get picadilly line.

Went to mad ghost station "st albans abbey" got train to watford junction. Trains go from watford junction go to Kensington Olympia, opposite work.

watford junction- all Olympia trains cancelled, signal failure. get train to Harrow & Wealdstone to change. Got stuck at broken signal 20minutes. someone puked on train and emergency alarm was pulled. waited at Harrow for 90minutes, 1 train to willseden junction where further connection possibly availble. Too packed to get on. Fight broke out and I hadmy own fishwife moment when shouted at horrible woman.

My Assistant was at willsden junction and said it was a nightmare. I gave in at 9.30 and took a days leave. Assistant managed to get in which does not make me look good. GRRR.

Drove to nursery, dropped the bairn off then drove home in the space of 10 mins to work there for the day. Heavens opened at about 4pm so had to pick up H from work, puddles nearly knee deep in places and total traffic chaos. Took nearly two hours to do the nursery run, definite shades of the 2007 floods

This mornings journey has been lovely for me. I stayed at my brothers house in Highbury and got the Victoria Line to Euston. 15 minutes door to door.

Getting home tonight is going to be the nightmare.

I walked just over 3 miles in 45 minutes today (knocked 6 minutes off yesterday's time). I didn't love it as much as I did yesterday but it wasn't too bad. Going home is worse. I may just stick around here til 7.00. Long day though.

Chook - I wouldn't wait till 7 at work as it is unlikely the tubes will be running properly until tomorrow am as the tubes won't be in the right places for a normal service to resume at dead on 7. So I would leave early again at least you might be home before midnight!

Me - the new roadworks on the M25 are a mare and it took me 2:15 to get home last night (norm an hour on a good run) and this morning it took me an hour and 5 to get in (normally 45 mins) But it's OK the are only going to be there for the next 58 weeks!

Much better this morning than yesterday, when it took me 2.5 hours on the buses (turnpike lane to knightsbridge) as I hadn't realised that the victoria line was partly open. Got the victoria line today so was about 1.5 hours (usually 45 mins).

There was a picket at Seven Sisters where I got on which I think Bob Crow was part of, but as they were all fat balding middle-aged men I wasn't entirely sure which one I should be directing my best looks of hatred towards ?
