Hunter Wellies or not?

HAG13, 18 December, 2012 at 14:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

After ending up with one very wet and muddy foot at the weekend figured I need to buy some new wellies!

This pair were Joules ones and have split somewhere, no idea where as I can't be bothered to wash them to find out just know I had a serious leak - although now thinking about it, are wellies fixable??

Anyway, the two pairs of High St wellies I had before that have both split down the seem.

I've gone through 3 pairs in 3 years! So I'm thinking that my next purchase might be a pair of Hunters. I'm hoping that spending a fair bit of money on them will mean that they last like buying a pair of GHD's.

Can anyone help endorse that spending £70 on a pair of wellies is actually a good idea?

I've been wearing mine for about 6 years with no problems! I plan to wear them for a loooong time to come. I think they were only about £50 when I got them too, before they were essentially a 'fashion' item!

Worth the expense if you ask me, just don't cut about the city centre in them!

I love my Hunters becasue they fit so well - no flapping about the feet or legs. They are about 4 years old now and I use them for gardening, in the snow and mud (I live inthe country) and have paddled in the sea in them in the winter.

I have wanted a pair of Hunters for aaaages. However lately I've been reading some pretty bad reviews on them. Since they have become fashionable, they have changed manufacturers. They used to be made by dipping in Scotland, but now are made in the Far East and are not dip made. the quality is no where near as good. I've heard of lots of wellies breaking quickly with the new way. Smiley sad several friends have said their old Hunters lasted years, but new ones do not. One friend went through 2 pairs in a year due to substandard quality Smiley sad

My feet still get cold in my Hunters, even in 3 pairs of socks, 1 of them being their welly socks...as such I barely wear them, plus they are too tall for my legs as I am only 5"1.

Same with the Northface jackets..I bought one because I am always cold and wanted something warm...it isnt ☹️

I've had mine for about 15 years and they are still great. They are expensive but I'd say worth the investment of you'll get good use out of them.

I have Tayberrys and they withstood a lot of winter abuse at the yard (including stupid horse standing on my feet too). I haven't got Hunters, but have heard good things and will be investing in some in the not too distant future.

I've wanted Hunters for ages! M&M direct sell them a bit cheaper I think, also you can get them on eBay from one of the outlet shops but can't remember who it was! They were a bit cheaper on there and had slight defects to make them cheaper, such as missing box etc

I've just been treated to a pair - have had to go for the "huntress" type as I am a short-ass with little legs, and the rest seem to pinch me behind my knees!

I've gone for Navy with red welly socks - the red to match the barbour Jacket i've asked for, for Xmas!
