I can't even choose a colour!!

Emma J Smith 222, 29 April, 2010 at 18:11 Posted on Planning 0 29

Hi Everyone, I'm new here and I have my wedding booked for May 2011. You all gave me some lovely advice about booking photographers, cake, BM Dresses etc however, I am having such trouble even choosing my colour for the wedding!! I could do with making this decision so that when I start looking for all the little things, cake, BM Dresses I know what I'm looking for!

I'm finding it so difficult as I don't have a favourite colour anyway really so its driving me a bit mad!

What colour schemes are you all going for? I Need inspiration!!

Thanks Everyone!

Emma xx

I didn't have a colour. I went bridesmaid dress shopping and saw some dresses we all loved and voila we had a colour scheme!

I picked mine after my OH picked his tartan, as he wanted kilts. I then went shopping for my BM dressed armed with a sample of the tartan and what colours matched it. I think you should take your BMs on a shopping trip to try on dresses and see what colours look like on them! you might just see a colour and find thats it!!

I didn't really have a colour. My H was going to wear a green kilt and I fancied purple bm dress but then my bm tried a sage green dress on so I changed to that but we didn't order the dress right then. Then my bm tried on another dress a few months later in blue so I changed to blue!

The stationery had been made in sage green but tbh I didn't care.

In the end my H changed his mind a few weeks before the wedding to a blue kilt so that co-ordinated well but only the kilts were blue and the bm dress as I kept everything else neutual colours and I wouldn't change a thing. The chair covers and linen were ivory and the sashes champagne to match my dress. The flowers were off white callas.

My friend had even got my a horseshoe personalised and painted in green!

I don't think weddings do need to be over co-ordinated so why not just pick a colour that suits your bm's and keep everything else ivory/white etc.

    Hi Emma,

I'm new to the forum too!

I had 2 colours in mind - just by thinking about the colour of the bridesmaids dresses. I liked purple but also dark/royal blue so I talked to my husband to be and he really didn't want to wear a purple tie so we settled on blue. It is his fave colour and it turns out the shade we want is sapphire - my birthstone so its turned out fairly romantic :-) Complete fluke tho!

    Welcome to hitched ?

Our colour scheme is based on OH's kilt:

Bridesmaids and invitations in hunter green, red and white flowers, tartan ribbon around the cake tiers. I'm not worried about having everything being too matchy-matchy though.

We're going traditional - burgundy (about the only thing in our wedding that is traditional lol!). My bridesmaid is actually wearing black but will have burgundy ribbon and burgundy will be tied in in other ways Smiley smile

Ahh no need to panic yet, I get married Oct 1st and a vague colour scheme (ie waist coats and BM dresses) was decided in March, OH likes green so he wanted grren in his waistcoat and cravat (not that he has chosen one yet) so we are workingfrom that. BMs have green dresses with a white overlay flowers are going o be country garden affair of mixed colours in dusky pinks and purples with some wheat thrown in for interest and then if we add any more colour it will be a subtle antiquey gold/ pale yeallow type thing but that is undecided.

Why don't you ask your OH if there are any colours he would like to wear in his tie etc and start from there.

Remebr all your colours don't have to match eiether you can go for tonal variations.

Don't worry - you don't need a colour scheme! Just like you don't need a theme. Just because other people have them and wedding mags are often laid out by colour doesn't mean you need to follow it! Plus you have ages to make up your mind/change your mind.

    Agree!!

My colour scheme revolved around me want to have fuscia pink gerberas (and bright pink shoes). As long as I could have my flowers without sticking out like a sore thumb I dind't mind what other colours were. D refused to get married in a rental and I didn't want matching everything.

I thought of mnay colours that would go with my pink flowers. We first bought the men's ties and my BMs picked the colour of their dresses. I was happy to have shades of colours that complimented eachother

As it happens, everything is pink and the men's ties and the BM dresses match perfectly! Which is a complete surprise and also slightly disappointing when you ddidn't want things to match ?

Go BM dress shopping and see what styles they like and what colours they like and you'll probably find things fall into place.

What's your venue like? Mine kind of determined our colour scheme (ivory and gold). I was fancy dusky pinks and browns, but that was when we were planning a barn wedding - I quickly realised there's no way it would work in the venue we've gone for!

IIf your venue's really neutral and you genuinely have no idea, I'd go for your dress first, then just get the BMs to suit that in whatever colour works/you fancy, and do the rest of the colour's from there.

Hello and welcome to hitched!! Our scheme is burgundy and ivory, I'm wearing a burguindy dress so ivory works the best with it. I managed to get lovely dresses from berketex for my BM which are ivory with a burgundy pattern. Good luck planning and enjoy every minute of it Smiley laugh

Hi and welcome to Hitched! Some popular colour schemes so far for next year are pastels especially pastel minty green and pale pink together, lemons and limes, purple and bright pink, blues all shades, black and fuschia and black and silver/gold.

Welcome and enjoy the planning! I'm another one who went with a colour to complement OH's tartan:

I think it also can depend on the time of year - I wanted green to go with the kilts but as we're getting married in October I wanted an autumnal green as opposed to a spring green, so went for hunter green. OH isn't one to overly think about varying shades of green so choosing the colour was up to me!I'm really not bothered about everything matching perfectly, and I'm going for white roses, orange gerberas and lots of 'greenery' in my bouquet.

If nothing is jumping out at you I'd suggest ruling out certain colours you both dislike first, then maybe take into account time of year and BM dresses? All else fails - pick one out of a hat!
