HappyGirl, 29 May, 2012 at 13:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

They have arrested the children's parents on suspicion of murder. I just feel sick. I hope to god it wasn't them, how horrific.

Yes I read that earlier, how awful if it's true. The story does keep changing which seems a bit odd to me but its also awful if they didn't do it and have been arrested IYSWIM

I just saw that too. Awful.

I can't pretend it didn't cross my mind before. They have a interesting background where he has the wife and the mistress. They were on jeremy kyle and things seemed quite volotile (sp)

The only thing in my mind that could make this true is if they were doing an insurance thing or, I know he had complained about wanting a bigger house. maybe they thought a small fire would benefit them in some twisted way and it got out of hand.

you would like to think though if someone was stupid enough to attempt this, they would ensure their children were out the house first!

I only hope the police are covering all posibilites and that this isnt true.

If it was an accident or insurance scam attempt wouldn't it be manslaughter rather than murder? Something just doesn't add up. Awful however it happened though.

I don't think they will have meant to kill the kids - I think possibly insurance scam or an argument that went too far..

You set fire to a house, you run the risk of ending innocent lives.

If it is an insurance scam, then I have very little sympathy for them, I'm afraid.

But innocent until proven guilty and all that.

It's horrifying either way - for obvious reasons if it turns out they are involved but if they are not I cannot imagine how awful it must be to have such an accusation made at all never mind while you are still grieving your 6 children.

My mum suspected something along those lines Mrs Bass. Given that the council turned him down for a larger house, my mum wonders if it was an attempt to cause just enough damage to the building that the council would be forced to relocate them, and it just got tragically out of hand. I don't know... I pray it wasn't them at all. Two other people were arrested previously but released without charge, so this arrest doesn't necessarily mean they'll be charged and that someone else wasn't behind it.

It's a horrible week for news Smiley sad

I had that thought in my mind- wicked isnt it that you would risk your kids safety for something trivial.

I read about the fire at the shopping centre in Qatar earlier as well- heartbreaking.

It's worth remembering that contempt of court covers things said on internet forums too. Wanted to mention that in case this thread goes like others I've seen, with speculation, sweeping statements and finger pointing.

It's in the Magistrates Court Act.

Once a case becomes active (in this instance as they've been arrested) reporting, which includes chatting/speculation/discussions on an internet board, is restricted to

1 - name of court and magistrates,

2 - names, addresses and occupations of parties and witnesses and ages of the accused and witnesses,

    3. Names of counsel and solicitors in the proceedings,

    4. Offences with which the accused is charged, or sumary of them,

    5. Any decision to commit the accused or any of the accused for trial; any decision on the disposal of the case of any accused not commuted,

    6. The charge or charges, or a summary of them, on which the accused is committed for trial; the court to which he or she is committed,

    7. Bail arrangements, including conditions of bail, but not any reasons for opposing or refusing it,

    8. Whether legal aid was granted,

    9. If proceedings are adjourned, the date and place to which they are adjourned,

    10. Any decision of the court to lift or not lift these reporting restrictions.

I agree. Other forums I go on delete threads as soon as someone is charged.

Is this only high profile cases? I have read comments on news stories on my local paper website after charges have been made?

I don't understand. So we're not allowed to give our opinions? Is that because it could influence the jurers or something?

So if I have understood this right you ate able to state and discuss facts "Mr x has been arrested for xyz" but you can't say " I think Mr x is guilty of xyz"?
