I'm making Vodka!!!

FutureMrsBrown, 28 July, 2011 at 10:17 Posted on Planning 0 25

Obviously, not ACTUAL vodka, I have no distillery. But, OH really wanted small bottles with some kind of alcohol in it as favours (they are kind of second favours, as we have charity pin badges too), largely because our bar prices are SO expensive. So, We bought a load of bottles that seal with a cork and I'm making Skittles vodka. There will be 5 colours (as there are 5 colours of skittles in a bag!) and they will apparently taste fruity. My first batch are ready and I'm just filtering the purple. I'm so excited as I think they are going to look awesome. And any that are left behind will just ensure we have a good day after the wedding!

I'm not entirely sure that it's legal to do that - but apart from that, are you sure that you are allowed alcoholic favours at your venue? Many do not allow it (presumably as it's lost profit for them). There's also of course the danger of those under 18 having access to them but that obviously is another issue altogether.

Aaah bah humbug with it been legal or "age permitting" i think it sounds delish.

How long do you have to steep them for?

Sounds Fab! How is it illegal to make it???

I would agree with AJ tho that you need to check your venues terms, ours had in the small print that if you were giving alcoholic favours you would be charged the full corkage charge per head

Have checked with venue, and alcoholic favours are fine as long as they are no bigger than a miniature, which these are not.

As for the legality, it didn't even cross my mind. Oh well, I guess they'll throw away the key

The only minors that we have are my nieces and nephews. They have champagne shaped bottles of bubbles instead and responsible parents just in case.

The purple is looking awesome and smells YUMMY, but it's very time consuming to filter

A bar I used to go to made their own vodkas in the same way. Love Hearts, Skittles, Mars Bars etc. Had them all lined up above the bar ready to go.

Steer clear of Mint Aero vodka shots, really not easy to drink! V tasty though!

Brilliant Idea!! I wish we could have miniatures at ours, but we have to pay corkage of £18 per miniature, so not worth it!

    How can it be illegal?!

Someone please tell me how to make skittles vodka - sounds amazing! As does marshmallow vodka. A bar near us used to make jelly baby vodka, which I tried to replicate once - ended up with bits in my vodka ?

We met someone at a wedding fair once who sold bottles of wine or beer with personalised labels on them - apparently you have to pay a license to 're brand' in any way alcohol, and although I guess you aren't claiming that you actually made the original vodka, I would assume that the same 'rebottling' terms and conditions would apply. I don't think it was just a scam to put labels on bottles at increased price.

Of course, as with most things, they only become truly 'illegal' if you get caught doing something illegal, so the chances of there being a problem are fairly slim - but I just felt I should mention it.

The marshmallow one is on that page too somewhere.

The colurs are interesting. Purple is done, red filtering now. I'm hoping to water it down a bit to make it more pink

I have used a sieve and good quality kitchen roll. I had to do the green twice for some reason. It comes through a drip at a time so takes a while, so I poured it in and then left it for 45 mins - an hour then went back to it. I've done all of the colours today and have some more in the fridge ready to do tomorrow. (I did it in small batches as I was not sure how many bottles it would fill)

Thanks for that. I had hoped to make some for a hen party I'm going to tomorrow night, but I'm not sure I'll have time to strain them all. Hmmm...

You could just do one colour, then it strains as one batch really. I'm going to do some for my second hen but probably only one colour

My sisters make this to have before nights out, they just dump a family bag of skittles into a litre of vodka the night before and then start drinking it before they go out.

I'd like to say if but when they get to the bottom of the bottle they just eat the skittles, so no need to strain ?

Katalina - they don't strain it before drinking? I made it once and there was a load of gunk in it that needed straining out!

Had this once in a bar and it was lush, made it myself and it was rocket fuel! Good night though!!

Nope they don't but then they've always been hard core haha I've never witnessed it, i moved out before they started drinking.

The only skittles drink i've had is the cocktail with vodka, taboo, blue carcao and lemonade - lush!
