In need of reassurance so non-fluffy hitchers not welcome lol!!!

kj82, 27 November, 2010 at 18:17 Posted on Planning 0 31

Hi ladies,

I have a strapless dress and had fitting yesterday. I really really really hated my arms and i have a back arse, ie it kinda folded in on itself when i was pulled tight lol. THe dress is bright white taffeta and trying to match the fabric to make a bolero has been a nightmare so the lady in the dress shop has said she can make me up a bolero but in the hot pink that the bridesmaids are wearing. I said ok, because to be honest, anything will be better than having my arms out (im not being paranoid, they really are quite bad, i can post a pic from yesterday if you like!!) but im worried that im going to look really gross. Is anyone else having any colour in their outfit? This wont just be a band or anything, it'll be a full on pink bolero to elbow length. I've tried pashminas, wraps, chiffon wraps (dont cover my back arse) and this really seems to be the last option Smiley sad Reassure me ladies or offer me alternatives!!!!(colours below)

I think the hot pink sounds like a great idea and will add a further touch of 'wow' to what am sure is already a fab dress.

Have you got a picture of your dress so can see how it would work with the style?

I am in the same boat and would thoroughly recommend this company http://wraporshrug.co.uk/, they are very helpful and do bespoke orders. Why on earth can't your lady make anything in white taffeta? that is not hard to get and what about other options, lace etc?

In my opinion I really do not think bright pink is going to look nice and will spoil the look of your dress.

    Hope that helps ?

I think its nice to introduce a bit of colour into the outfit - I'm thinking of having a jacket in whatever colour my BMs end up in ? And really like the idea of sleeves to the elbows, I think it will look very elegant!

Is it a corset back? If so it could be that the lacing has been pulled too tight. We need to see the dress to know what to match with it. Any pics ( don't need tp post one of you if you don't want to)

I tried lace and it doesnt cover the back bum and just doesnt suit me, she said she could try and get the taffeta but the colour isnt ordinary white iyswim and the weddings only 3 weeks away Smiley sad

Really dont know wht to do. Actually spent all of yeaterday afternoon in tears. It's my own fault, i should have tried harder to tone them up and lose the weight Smiley sad

I looked at wrapor but really dont think my budget is going to stretch and im cutting it fine time wise.

Thanks for all the comments xxx

Ok, this is the dress and my arms!! This is the pink fabric draped. Its way way more bulky that it would be, it was just to get an idea of the colour, its bulky as its all the fabric tied up Smiley smile Honest opinions ladies. I'll probably get the bolero anyway as my sister can wear it if i dont as we are the same size ish and shes having a whole dress in the pink. Just looking at that pic, i can see it looks awful!!

Awwwww Smiley sad don't feel like that. Could you not take a swatch of your dress and buy the material yourself for her to make? or if you can find a way to make your budget stretch a little, I know wrapor do rush orders. Best of luck and don't be sad ?

I honestly think in the picture that u've put of just your dress u look fine but obviously can't see the back. If you think you're going to feel more comfortable with the bolero then go for it. As you've got the pink sashes on your FG's dresses it won't look out of place. X

If you can't match the dress, I think the colour would be fine. And I know that the material isn't in the shape the bolero would be, but I definitely think it would be more flattering in general to have the top edge of the jacket skimming along the top of your shoulders rather then hiked up over them, so that you still get some length on your neck and don't look too hunched up.

Could you add some simple decoration to the bolero (I'm thinking white chiffon flowers around the neckline or something picking up colour from your flowers) to soften the "full on" pinkness of it? Although I think it is fine on it's own and if it gives you more confidence then it is a jolly good thing.

Have you thought about going for a softer pink so it isn't so full on? It'd still have the pink theme so wouldn't look out of place & might just help you feel a lot more confident. Dress is lovely BTW ?

Aw, without being too fluffy I honestly don't think you need to worry about your arms! Plus, people won't be looking at them as they'll just be looking at you looking beautiful in your wedding dress! But you do sound like you'd be happier with them covered... It is a strong block of colour from in the pic with the fabric draped but this might just be because its bunched up and literally just over your arms. This might be a rubbish idea (I don't have the best imagination for clothes and stuff!), but what about white lace over the pink fabric on the bolero? Would introduce a bit of white to it? Or I like the suggestion of the white corsage!

I think the white lace over the pink bolero is a fab idea! Tones it down a bit but keeps the theme going ?

    Honestly....

I think the first picture looks okay but again i can't see your *back bum*.....However i don't like the hot pink shrug it takes your eyes away from the dress and to the shrug. (I love the hot pink colour though)

I'm not a huge shrug fan though i think sometimes they can actually make you look like you have no neck as such (like shrugging??)......MHO though!

What about a pashmina thats the same colour as your dress?? xx

I actally think a white lace bolero to your elbows would be more flattering than the pink as the pink is so bright it means you see that and not your lovely dress. Let us know how you get on and what you decide and please don't worry, you will look lovely Smiley smile

Personally I don't like the pink with your dress. If you feel you would be happier with something covering your arms, I would suggest something more lacy or lightweight. I think the pink looks too heavy and strong and detracts from your lovely dress.

When is your wedding, would a fur bolero be an option for you? Alternatively something chiffon would be nice.

I think the hot pink is too distracting from your dress. I would try the high street for a shrug, there are some lovely chiffon ones out just now.

I think you look lovely in the picture. I don't think i would go for the pink though if you feel you would like a cover up.

    Something like these are nice.

I don't like the pink. If you want to hide things (not that it looks like you do) i would go for something simple like this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IVORY-SMALL-SLEEVED-GEORGETTE-SHRUG-SIZES-6-to-14-MORE_W0QQitemZ140444158699QQihZ004QQcategoryZ15720QQvarZ440006615010QQcmdZViewItem

It's pretty and plain. It keeps you looking at the dress. Plus, I'm 100% sure that when you're on a high after you've said 'i do' you couldn't careless if you were walking around naked!

    Hi

I will be covering my arms so i know how you feel. I think that the hot pink looks ok and would go with bridesmaids. But also think that a lighter colour or a detailed lace ( so you cant see through it as much ) may not draw as much attention to that area. Even if the fabric is not an exact match. Have looked online and found a couple

    http://www.glamourousgowns.co.uk/shopdata/show.php?dress=2891 available in white

    http://www.bridalwearplus.co.uk/plus-size-wedding-bolero-jackets-c-5.html

Or what about phoning around other dress shops?

Hope you find something you feel comfortable in

I think boleros are the way forward to cover the bits we're not too keen on. My dress is strapless too (black) and i've got a black satin bolero (long sleeves) to go with it.

I think yours will look lovely, gorgeous colour too Smiley smile xx

I don't think your arms look bad but if it affects your confidence then you need something, difficult to tell with the pink as the way it is draped draws attention and makes your shoulers look big. maybe try a few on in the high street.

    Hey!

My dress is ivory with a bit of black in there, so my bolero is black.

I think you looked fine in the first picture as well - but it is about feeling comfortable on the day. Someone suggested to me going to Mothercare and buying a nice baby shawl, would be nice and warm and cover your arms.

    Hi,

I'm diving in late on - sorry. I agree with a couple of the others that I don't think you look as bad without the bolero as you think you do, and also that I don't think the pink will do you justice.

If you want a shrug/bolero there are a few here that seem to be a reasonable price....

    Hi ladies,

thankyou so much for all your comments. I spent the whole weekend worrying and really not looking forward to the wedding and feeling so childish. I spoke to my dress lady today and she's going to have a look and see what she can find fabric wise, i may end up with lace but i think i would prefer that to the pink. I'll keep you updated!!! lol
