Inspired by the Lily Allen post... Do you like your name?

HatTrick, 4 January, 2012 at 12:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 87

I like my name but I hate when people that I don't know/like shorten it to Hay or Hayles. I hated being 1 of 5 in my primary class, I don't really like having a 'H' surname too (getting married didn't change that!)

Hate mine! always have - I get lots of telephone calls and post (1st timers to) Mr... ?

Also my maiden name wasn't easy and my 1st married name was the same and my new one is even worse ?

But at least it makes me totally unique in all my 3 full names I've had too

I like my name, but it does get annoying when people go "oh I was expecting a male!" - my name's Jaimie.

    What is your name? ?

My little cousin is called Gracie but she's such a tomboy and she refuses to talk to anyone unless they call her John!

Yep. I like mine. As names go, it's inoffensive in general. Was one of several at school so still get called by my full name by my school friends, all run into one single name.

    If I wasn't called it, it's a name I'd consider for a child.

Yes. I like my first name (Sarah) and I love my surname as I chose it myself! Well, it's an old family name I resurrected after it died out in my mother's generation.

I used to think my name (Angela) was a bit old-fashioned but it doesn't bother me anymore.

When i used to play "House" when I was a kid, i would insist that my name would be Sarah Greenwood. Every Sarah I know is pretty and feminine and I have mentioned to H about calling the baby Sarah if it's a girl but he's not keen. I also love the name Rachel but again H wasn't struck.

I don't mind it too much, but get referred to as "Mr" quite a lot. Went through a stage where I really wanted my name to be Heather Dixon.*

I like mine. Loads of people shorten it to Nat, it doesnt bother me, but when the hubby hears someone call me Nat, he goes NUTS! he hates it! my Dad hated people shortening my name too!

My new surname sounds just like any other irish surname, but the spelling is not what the pronunciation suggests! Hubbys grandad added 2 letters to it (yes legally) to make it differ from all the other families in Ireland with same sounding names!

I don't mind mine, I quite often put my first and middle names together.

Prior to deciding, I was going to be a Georgina.

If I was a boy I was going to be Martin Christopher ?

My friend is called Lois, we call her Lola... I like that name.

I also like Lottie for Charlotte.

Don't mind my name, it is quite a normal one...but I hate the way my parents kindly decided to spell it (Kati). Is that with an IE? No. Oh, with a Y? No. Erm...blank look!

I really dont like my name which is Justine ! i hate that its always shortened to Juts which sounds silly to me , people at school who thought they were clever called me Jut da Sl*t which wasnt nice !! i get called Jutty as well which sounds so childish ! The only version of it which is ok to me was either just Justine or J which my hubby used to call me before he heard everyone else call me Juts !!!!

    But Flow is ok surely!....

I don't mind my name, even though it is old-lady-ish. I was going to be a Poppy, the idea of which I hated when I was younger, but now I'd love to be called Poppy!

It's grown on me over the years. I didn't like it when I was little, I wanted a name which could be properly shortened like Christine or Alexandra. I also hated the way my surname (which began with an A) clashed. Since I've changed my surname I feel happier with it. I still prefer the short form of it, though.

(ETA: I'm Emma - my mum said she picked it because it seemed 'ageless', you could be an Emma at 2, 22 or 62 and it not sound odd.)

I don't really mind my name (Elizabeth) i get called Eliza, Betty or Beth as nicknames but absolutely hate being called Liz and as a child I would refuse to answer the person, just reminds me of frizzy lizzy!! I think i hate my middle name more which is Anne.

And if i was a boy, my mum would've called me Mark

I like the shorten version of my name but i hate saying my full name (Abigail) out loud which could be interested at the wedding!!

when i was little i was determined i wanted to get married and become 'Mrs magnolia' i was heartbroken when my sisters looked through the phone book and showed me the name didn't exist!

I have a friend sharing your name and we call her Flossy which she doesn't seem to mind!

My mum didn't want names which could be shortened, she believes in people being called what they are called!

My name is faily unusual, its Néna. Its pronounced Nay-na. Not Nina. Which everyone seems to call me. Even when they have worked with me for years. or i have corrected them untold times!

My maiden name was double barrelled. I liked it, but it was effort spelling it ALL the time. As well as having a weird first name, now my surname is shorter and I like it.

I like my name, but then, its my name, I havent ever known any different! H loves my name and lots of people say its pretty. Means beautiful eyes in some indian languages.
