This year, for the first time in 6 years, I am off at Christmas and New Year. However, I am on-call on hogmanay - so its highly likely that I will be either doing a nightshift on hogmanay or an early on 1st. ?

I know how rubbish it is when you have to work Christmas, I hope its as good as it can be for you ?

When I worked on the nespaper I often did the Christmas / New Year's Eve shifts. I rather liked it. I'm not working this year but am on call in the run up to New Year and the first few days of 09.

I'm working tonight and tomorrow night, 1800 until 0400. we usually do 2100 to 0700 on nights but we get these occaisional 'half nights'. and i've had about three emails saying to i want to work until 7am which i've ignored.

so technically i'm working xmas day but for only 4 hours, and i have 4 days off. this is the first year i haven't worked though.

why we do these jobs beats me ?

I work in a hospital and am on call until Sunday. I'll have to come in on Christmas Day and Boxing Day but not for full days. Hopefully I won't get too many calls but it's really busy so I probably will.

I am in tomorrow and then boxing day at 10am, but have Christmas day off. I am also working NYE and NYD, but I don't mind that.

I'm off today, in tomorrow, off christmas day and then straight through from boxing day to new years eve. I am getting New Year's day off as we're shut and then off till i go back on the 5th.

I hate retail, but glad the centre is closed on New Years day or we would have been asked to open that day...

I'm working quite a bit but off actual Christmas Day, so thats quite good. I don't really mind though, and I'm hoping it will be fairly quiet.

I'm not (I am on maternity leave so not working at all atm) but Mr R is working Christmas Day from 1 - 7 and also Boxing Day. At New Year he works Hogmanay but finishes before the bells and then is off 2nd Jan.

Yep. Night shift tonight, night shift tomorrow then an evening shift on Boxing Day. I should be working the following two evening shifts but I'm taking leave and heading up to Scotia. You win some, you lose some when you work shifts and that's what I get paid extra for, I suppose.

I am working christmas day 8 - 4.30, its triple time so I am not moaning. Its paying for our van that we have to hire when we move next month, so not bad really!

I dont get paid any extra for working any public holidays, and that includes xmas day, boxing day and new years day. I just get my normal hourly rate which is rubbish ?

I'm on nights 24th 25th 26th & 27th then off until I start early shifts on 1st Jan :-( My 9th Christmas on the trot too. Never mind, all those midweek days off during the year help to make it worthwhile.

The lack of holiday around Christmas was the one thing I hated when I moved here. In some ways just getting Christmas day and New Years day off was worse than having to work the whole thing.

This year tomorrow is my last day and I'm out till the 5th! I have to have my blackberry to hand but I've made it clear I'm only responding to things that really can't wait or be handled by someone else.

I've got quite a bit of work to do - a DVD booklet, a book chapter, several reviews - but because it's freelance I can do it from home and slot it around everything else.
