Is everyone having a honeymoon?

pinkypie8, 6 February, 2011 at 20:53 Posted on Planning 0 36

Just being nosey really? We were going to but with us getting married at the end of November by the time we have had two weeks away it willb e xmas and it's all a bit of a rush, so we are having a minimoon, a monday to friday break in north yorkshire, log cabins, hot tubs, wood burning stoves and we are going to take the dog...she's my baby but not part of the wedding so she can be part of the minimoon then next year do a big holiday classed as our honeymoon somewhere like Mexico or Jamaica.

What's everyone else doing?

We're going to the Dominican Republic for a week a few days after the wedding. I'm really looking forward to it - it's a five star resort, all inclusive. Very expensive but we wanted to do something special and will never have another holiday like it.

We haven't decided yet but we were thinking three or four nights away leaving on the Monday (we are getting married on the Saturday), and then booking something last minute over the next month to six weeks as this will keep the excitement going a little bit longer! Lots of people I have spoken to have said that a slightly delayed honeymoon helps with the post-wedding blues!

Where abouts are you going in N Yorkshire if you don't mind me asking? We have a little Pug and I would LOVE to take her on holiday with us, if we could find somewhere lovely in England where we could take Wendy (the pug!) we would definitely stay in this country for our short break, with a view to going somewhere exotic a few weeks later.

    xx

    Sounds lovely!

We debated this for a while, as we'd love to go on a round-the-world trip, especially New Zealand, but this would have meant waiting a couple of months (and then H2B, who is rugby mad, wanted to watch the world cup in Sept, and I thought this would be a recipe for disaster as although I don't mind watching some rugby, watching loads on our honeymoon would have made me quite annoyed).

So, we decided to go to Greece immediately after our wedding for three weeks. It will be the height of summer, but it's inexpensive, the people are friendly, and we can dot around from island to island as we wish.

Then we can do the round-the-world thing next year hopefully!

Where in N. Yorks do you plan to go?

Bit of an odd one really, we were looking at centre parcs as it was £269 for 4 nights but then the hidden costs started to creep in and all of a sudden we were just short of £400 which sort of defeated the object, then i was sat a my mums earlier today and saw a TV add for forest holidays so googled it, and there are 5 or 6 sites through england that are basically log cabins we are looking at the highest spec cabin and for 4nights in Keldy Cabin North Yorkshire (its the golden oak cabin) including the dog it's £251. The cabin has private hot tub flat screen tv a wii and other bits, theres loads of walking but near enough to Pickering Whitby York etc to still be near civilisation. If you aren't bothered about the hot tubs and all that it gets cheaper, we just quite fancy a hard days walking and a nice chill out in a hot tub!!! Although H2B thinks dog will want to join us....she can want all she wants I love my dog but she is not getting in a hot tub with me!!!!

We are going to Las Vegas for a fornight!! We leave the day after the wedding to fly to manchester. Then the next day we hit vegas baby!! We were going to go somewhere like cancun or Dom Republic, but i have a 6yr old son who will be staying at home so we thought we may as well go somewhere that we may never get the chance to do again. We can do the beach hoilday thing anytime but dont think we would ever get the chance to go somewhere like vegas again!! Your log cabin honeymoon sounds like bliss after all the stress of getting married!!!!

We went to the Deerpark Forest Holiday site down near Liskeard and loved it, and have friends that have stayed at Kelder so let me know if you would like me to ask them anything for you. They are very good value for money if you go outside of the school holidays.

We're going to Paris for 3 nights followed by a week's stay in a cottage in Cornwall. Can't wait!

We are going to Mexico 5* all inclusive for 11 nights staying in a Thomson's A la carte hotel. We both know we are gonna need a year to pay it off, but hopefully it will be everything we hope it to be. Hopefully next year we will be parents and know this is our last time blowout haha.

We get married on the Saturday and fly from Gatwick on the Tuesday after ?

Yes, but we'll probably be taking the children.

And I'm not sure if we can define that as a honeymoon?

Yes! 2 weeks in mexico with an overnight stay in London first. Get married on th sat, fly to london on the tue & onto Mexico on the wed = 4.5 weeks off work ? It'll be so good to have the couple of days inbetween to pack & get last minute bits & bobs.

The honeymoon wasnt a big deal for me, I would have liked Ibiza for 2 weeks (our first hol together) and Im not a good traveller but OH really wanted mexico and we found a 5 star all inclusive for reasonable money.

The paying it off on top of wedding saving & mortgage is a pain in the a** but I imagine come after the wedding I'll be very grateful for the holiday!

Pink - we are doing exactly the same as you but in the Forest of Dean! We have been to the Cornwall forest holiday site a couple of times before and it's absolutely beautiful, so hopefully the Forest of Dean one will be similar.

We also have a 2 person Golden Oak cabin with hot tub etc, and I have ordered the "romance package" so when we get there, there will be champagne and chocolates, and rose petals on the bed (although that's more for me than him, he will just wonder what's the point of the rose petals!).

Yup! After the wedding we're spending 2 nights in a gorgeous 5* hotel in Belfast before coming back to Manchester and having a few days packing and shopping before jetting off to Las Vegas - 3 weeks travelling round California in a convertible mustang!

    Yes!

We've having a minimoon in the UK for a week immediately after the wedding. We're then going on our proper honeymoon in September. 4 weeks touring the South Pacific (Bora Bora, Tahiti etc) and then 2 weeks in New Zealand.

Yes! Is it bad that we booked our wedding date around the honeymoon rather than the other way round?

We are going to South Africa for 2 weeks, Cape Town, the Winelands, Garden Route then safari at the end. It is costing a small fortune - but it is a once in a lifetime type trip, and I am being very spoilt by my H2b who announced that he had decided to upgrade our flights and hotels all the way through!

    I can't wait!

We're going away for 18 days and getting married while we're away, and then having our 'sham' wedding day over here when we get back. We're going to use the airmiles we're getting on OHs credit card to go somewhere next November so we'll have had time at home in between

We're going to New Zealand campervanning for 3-4 weeks, but this probably won't be til November - we get married in August when it's winter down under! I'd love to go on a minimoon too, to get away immediately after the wedding, but it depends if there's any money left in the budget!

    No, we're not.

I would say it's because we can't afford it, with moving house and having a new baby, but TBH, neither of us has even mentioned a HM, so I don't think either of us is bothered about having one.

My lovely parents are paying for ours as a wedding gift, so we are going to Mauritius for 11 nights. I've never been anywhere like that before (never been anywhere long haul!) and so it's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. I really want to go to this place called Casella where you can walk with Lions.
