is it possible...

... to not wear 'wedding shoes'?

I've been doing a lot of thinking about this lately. I've never been a girly girl and have always lived in trainers. Whenever i wear proper shoes it feels like a fight and i always end up losing. I was thinking about maybe wearing pumps or something similar. I keep having a fear that i'll fall flat on my face when i'm walking down the aisle.

Can anyone recommend anything?

I did a wedding recently whereby the bride and BMs wore proper shoes for the ceremony and photos....then they all changed into white trainers that had been decorated with little crystals! It was certainly a talking point and they were able to be up on the dance floor all night without blisters!

I'm having bright killer heels for the ceremony and photos, and sparkly flats for dancing...

Am quite tempted to see if I can fit a tallish stool under my dress so I can sit/lean and no-one would know!

So many people didn't want to wear heels on their wedding day that Rainbow have now introduced a wedding trainer into their range! http://www.theaccessoryboutique.com/product/2166/3/6/bonnie__rainbow_club.html

I'll probably wear flat ballet pump style shoes. not very good in heels at all. the best i can manage is probably a 2" heel and then my feet ache after a while

Kirsty - I totally thought of you as soon as I read this thread.....lol

I'll be wearing ivory shoes but packing my silver ballet pumps for later. I was at a wedding once where the bride wore black pointy toed stilleto boots with her aquamarine dress. Looked a bit odd but, hey, its your day so you can do whatever the hell you like!!!!!

I too have heel issues, not really thought about what I might do, but the thought of wearing strappy shoes gives me nightmares of falling over..

One option I've considered is wearing heels, but on boots (white or otherwise) because then I at least don't have the feeling they're going to fly off my feet at any moment. I think I could cope with the pain for the ceremony - no way I'll be in heels all day though, spangly trainers might be the way forward!

My friend wore white doc martins on her wedding day LOL and another friend got married when we had all the snow and her and the BMs had cream ugg boots ?

they have several of these lovely pumps on ebay with different detailing on them which think would look as lovely as 'normal' wedding shoes.

My sister had some shoes in the day, but some wedding trainers for the night which she brought off ebay.

However I saw some the other day which were by I think Rainbow club.

£65 for those!! What a rip off - they are just white pumps - you can buy similar in primark for about a fiver!

When I heard that Rainbow were adding a wedding trainer to their range I must admit I thought it would be more 'weddingy'! You're right, there are plenty of white pumps around for a lot less than £65, I just hadn't really thought about it!!

I wore low silver sandals on my day - they were annoying me so much that i just took them off for dancing and just danced in bare feet!

I had closed toe Victorian style heels for the ceremony and initial group shots but, getting married in November I still wanted photos by the garden and, if it was nice enough by the lochside but I didn't want to traipse over grass/bark chippings etc in heels in case I sank. My solution was to get white wellies for the outdoor pics and some white trainers for the reception so I could dance all night without being crippled!

I got these trainers, which were very very comfy:

Someone mentioned that they might be able to wear heels if they were boots rather than strappy - try Henry Kaye, they have some lovely bridal boots in white or ivory satin for around £100 - bit pricey but not totally out there for wedding shoes I don't think. I also came across a company called Banshee Boots (I think) when I was googling who will make you a pair of victoriana style boots out of whatever fabric you send them so you could get them to match your colour scheme. Can't vouch for how good the company is as I didn't use them in the end (ditto Henry Kaye) but they're worth a look.

AlmostMrsP - I've just found those two sites - Henry Kaye and Bannsshee, and they've got just the sort of thing I'm looking for!

    Thank you so much!
