Is short the new long?

MrsMac2be, 28 December, 2010 at 20:21 Posted on Planning 0 22

I am seeing more often that brides are buying their BM's the shorter length dresses so that they may be able to wear them again, is this a trend thats going to last? I personally think it is...

Saying that my sample dress from the Birmingham dress lady is full length and I going to wait to see what its like but I am erring toward the shorter length dresses now especially as we are getting married in a "summer" month.

Any ideas of what you are having or have had please?

My BMs had complete say in what they were wearing.

They are both full length but one is chiffon, the other satin. They both don't like their legs so opted to be covered.

The ones I look at personally, I tend to prefer the shorter ones. But I'm allowing my Bridesmaids to choose their own dresses so will have to see what they pick.

I think shorter wedding dresses are lovely but it's not for me. I have chunky ankles and calves so not a good look for me! x

I'm having a long wedding dress but I watched a few episodes of DTTB last night and the majority of the BM's were in the shorter length as is a lot of the BM dresses that I have seen in wedding magazines... I will just wait and see what my sample BM dress is like, Im sure I will love it full length and have them like that but it does make me wonder whether the shorter length BM dresses are getting more popular as they can use them again thereafter.

I like shorter dresses but I worry that my BMs won't stand out as they'll look like other guests maybe?

I think on DTTB a lot of the dresses come from the High St and they tend to be shorter styles.

I let my Bridesmaids decide, they wanted long so they stood out compared to other people who would be more likely to wear shorter dresses.

I think that may be my thought process, of having them in longer length dresses so they can be "located" easily as the BM's.

@ Josie - I know I havent posted on your thread but you looked absolutely gorgeous!! x.

I like short ones but because I only have one bridesmaid I opted for a long BM dress so she stands out from the guests.

I like both short and long. How many BM's are you having? And is there a big height difference to them? When I was in a bridal shop looking at BM dresses the sales lady suggested that as my CBM is shorter than my other BM by about 7 inches that long would be better as shorter dresses tend to make it more obvious. I had never thought of it like this and maybe that's not something that would concern you, but maybe something to think about. I need to wait until the tail end of next year before I dress shop properly for them as one of my BMs is trying to get pregnant, so need to wait and see as that will also determine the type of dress she can wear. Chiffon would be better than heavy satin if she's heavily pregnant I think!

My BMs are having long dresses. Chiefly because it'll be January and freezing so I wanted them to be as warm as possible.

If it'd been spring or summer I'd have chosen shorter, 'wear again' dresses.

We are having long dresses mainly because of the weather (december wedding) they will keep the BM's warmer and may have to hide sensible footwear eg. WELLIES!!!

If I was getting married in summer though it would be a different story because some of the shorter styles are gorgeous!!!

My BMs are wearing short dresses. Firstly I prefer them, but also as we're on a budget they came from the high street. The girls had a say in the style of dress too, as they will keeping them as their gift from us too, therefore I wanted something they would actually want to wear again.

I'm having shorter dresses for my BM's, they were more expensive than I was going to spend, but they will get to wear them again Smiley smile, plus we are getting married in July so I am hoping the sun will be out Smiley smile

We're having shorter dresses. I didn't mind either way as I like long and short ones, but they've chosen strapless chiffon dresses that come to just below the knee.

I asked my BM's what they'd rather i designed about 3 different styles in both long and shorter skirt lengths and they all choose the shorter one rather than a full one as we're getting married in the middle of July, it kinda go with my wedding theme anyway, but i'm still in my full wedding dress no matter how much i over heat the dress is staying on for the whole duration on the day lol x

I'm seeing more & more shorter Bridesmaid dresses for next year. This year started the trend & I think the Vintage theme is also using more tea length dresses.

I think that im opting more to shorter knee length BM dresses. I have been a BM twice and had to wear longer dresses in the height of summer. Personally i would have preferred to have worn a shorter style as they seem to be more 'up to date'. I am having 2 older BM and 2 FG, i have asked them which style they prefer and they have both said the shorter 'cocktail' i think its called style.

I think all styles look lovely depending on theme and preference Smiley smile

I prefer long dresses as the shorter ones makes them look like an ordinary guest IMO.

The girls had free reign - I didn't tell them anything they just took a few dresses into the changing rooms and both came out declaring they liked the same dress. They only tried on 2 in the end - was a very easy day! ?

They chose the colour too - I was surprised they went for such a bright pink.
